Plot
While the war between the Varden and the Empire escalates into full-scale turmoil, fleets of small ships, ancient beyond measure, are discovered. Three ships were seen at dawn entering the port city of Teirm. Empire magicians and scholars found them completely deserted, with no sign of any crew or other habitation. Reports stated that they had appeared to had been piloted using a device of ancient magic unknown to any magician or sorcerer in the Empire. Meanwhile, identical ships entered Surda. The Varden quickly came to the same conclusion as the Empire, finding that the ships had been piloted by the same ancient magic.

The only thing either side could decipher was a set of maps found on the ship. One thing that all of the scholars, Empire or Varden, could agree on was they led to the ancient homeland of the elves, far to the west.

The Varden, desperate to find any trace of the elves' ancient and powerful civilization, as well as hope of locating any surviving dragons, immediately started work on a fleet of ships. These ships would carry brave volunteers to explore the lost land of the elves, and to bring back what aid they could find before all hope was lost.

The Empire, under the order of Galbatorix, also built a powerful fleet. Unlike the Varden, their ships were prepared for war and conquest. Soldiers, mercenaries, scholars, sorcerers, magicians, even Shades and Riders, were gathered. The might of the Empire was being gathered to wage war on the new continent, and to harness whatever they could find to finally crush the Varden once and for all.

Strangely enough, similar boats were spotted in random areas near the sea and large areas, including Narda, the Hardic Desert, and several other locations. These ships were empty, and any passenger who dared set foot in them were seen dragged off by the current towards an unknown location (the continent to the west).

Now, as the two sides race against each other to reach the lost land, what will they find? And who will be the victor in the new war that is sure to come, transplanted far from home, but losing none of the animosity?

 Legion (Incomplete)
« Thread Started on May 19, 2009, 5:11pm »

Full Name: Faust DarkHeart

Other name: Formerly "Laetri Liduen"; goes by "Legion"

Race:: Elven Shade

Side: Neutral (Though mostly self-serving)

Birthplace: Ellesmera

Age: 3,128

Gender: Male

Birthday: March 18th

Appearance:
Faust is quite muscular and well-built with shoulder length black hair that he often ties back into a ponytail. His muscle-bound frame stands at six feet, two inches. The "whites" of Faust's eyes are black and he has deep crimson eyes. A very beautiful color, which proves that eyes are truly NOT the windows to the soul. His complexion is pale, sub-vampiricly so.

Faust is usually seen wearing black armor with silver spikes. Beneath his armor rests Elven-made chainmail. Due to the speed of Elves, all links are hammered closed. This makes it a rare piece of work outside of the Elven community. Over his armor, concealing it, are flowing black robes, embroidered in silver, that make his eyes seem darker. These robes have holes that were sewn and tapered to fit the spikes, which poke out of them. Said spikes are about two inches long. He completes the ensemble with a pair of black dragon hide boots, passed to him from his father.

Magic User: Yes

Preferred Weapon(s): Faust carries an Elven-made sword and dagger which, like most Elven swords of high-grade, will never dull. His entire body, which he has honed since he reached maturity, is itself a weapon. He has practiced with the Magic of the ancient language since he was a child, making him formidable in that respect as well. Finally, he posesses the dread magic known to all Shades.

Personality: Sometimes Faust can come off as a person who doesn't care much about others. Then again, sometimes he'll come off as a playboy who flirts with just about any female who isn’t hideous. You see, Faust, unlike most Shades, is actually quite handsome. His pale skin seems to work for him, making him appear to glow slightly in the light. Of course, he still has some of the Elven beauty about him. He was, after all, an Elf before he was a Shade.

Faust also has slight moodswings which can at times make him seem like a complete not a very nice person not a very nice person. This is often due to stress, and he means no harm…unless you happen to be a bounty, in which case he’ll probably take it out on you. Being in his position creates quite a bit of stress sometimes. However, this is not everyday. Most days, he is simply his usual self. Of course, his usual self is an impassive figure who never shows any emotion.

Faust is a very logical person, assessing all situations and calculating the risks before making his decisions…usually. Everyone has their moments of wanton bloodlust and whatnot. Truthfully, he doesn’t really care about anyone but himself. He works only for himself. He takes bounties to make money. After all, one can’t get a much better sword-for-hire than an Elf turned Shade. His eternal motto: “Lookin’ out for number one.” As an interesting sidenote, it should be known that while he thinks of himself as Faust DarkHeart, he always introduces himself as Legion. While he consciously knows that he's doing it unconsciously, he doesn't think of it as much of a big deal.

Likes/Dislikes:

Strengths: Faust is in complete control of himself, able to make himself appear to be whatever he needs others to believe. As a master of chess, he is always several steps ahead. He is extremely retentive to detail. He mentally separates peoples’ words in his head, retaining all valuable information. He has discovered that, if you wait long enough, information will triumph in all situations. Of course, in some situations, information will not literally triumph. For those situations, Faust enormous muscles, skill in weapons and magics of all different kinds, and great speed will suffice. Faust is the perfect soldier; he will do anything to get the job done. He has almost no principles, but his word is one that he does retain. He may lie (and often does), but if he gives his word it can be considered already done. He has never missed a bounty.

Weaknesses: Faust’s minor flaws are arrogance and greed. The coup de gras is, of course, Hubris. Unholy Pride. What powerful immortal lacking morals would be complete without it? That was a rhetorical question. The fact that Faust can perform tasks better than any Human, the race he spends the most time around, has led him to believe that he can simply do everything better than anyone else. It is the one chink in his armor of logic. It is the thing which causes him to be reckless at times, getting himself and into slightly troublesome situations. He is aware that Hubris is his one flaw, but is still powerless to resist it.

Family: All long deceased...by his own hand.

Not-So-Brief History: Faust DarkHeart, originally called Laetri Liduen, was born into a high-bred noble family. His parents were both among the four-and-twenty nobles of the Royal Court. The House of Liduen was very influential. From the time Laetri was born, he was never in need of anything, and had the best of everything. The best tutors taught him to read and write, logic, reason, debate, swordsmanship, hand-to-hand combat, Magic, and everything else. The boy was a prodigy.

But eventually, people stopped being amazed. They simply accepted his talents. He reached manhood with them in this state of pure acceptance, expectance even! And so, he decided to wow them. He had mastered every course in Magic through the Ancient Language that had been given to him; so he decided to master the last form of Magic not taught to him. He found all of the information he could on summoning spirits to do his bidding.

He decided that he would summon ninety-nine spirits, controlling them all at one time. The first would be so weak that any Elf could master it with ease, while the last would be a powerful Demon the likes of whom even the King himself would need assistance to deal with. With this powerful display of Magic, Laetri believed he would assure himself as heir to the Elven Throne.

At the hour of three in the morning, Laetri strode into a secluded glade, where he began his arcane rites. As you may have guessed at this point in our story, his spells went horribly awry. All ninety-nine spirits took possession of his body at once, with Laetri as the one hundredth. Laetri was able to shackle them to his will, but only by fusing all ninety-nine summoned souls together and then fusing that one powerful soul into his own.

The being known as Laetri was gone. In that brief time when they were one hundred separate souls, they called themselves Legion. When fused into one powerful soul, they took the name Faust DarkHeart. Faust returned to his – rather, Laetrii’s – home and, in a fevered and delirious rage, murdered everyone. Somewhere in his twisted mind, Faust believed it to be their fault that he was what he was. If they had just noticed Laetri, he would not be this creature. That day, he took his father’s prized weapons and armor, including a hard-won pair of dragon-hide boots, and fled.

Faust took up his permanent residence in the middle of the Hadarac desert, but is rarely there. He now wanders from place to place, taking bounties for work.

Anything extra: At some point down the road, I would very much like for Faust to become a Dragon Rider. A neutral Elf-turned-Shade Rider would be interesting, would it not?
