While the war between the Varden and the Empire escalates into full-scale turmoil, fleets of small ships, ancient beyond measure, are discovered. Three ships were seen at dawn entering the port city of Teirm. Empire magicians and scholars found them completely deserted, with no sign of any crew or other habitation. Reports stated that they had appeared to had been piloted using a device of ancient magic unknown to any magician or sorcerer in the Empire. Meanwhile, identical ships entered Surda. The Varden quickly came to the same conclusion as the Empire, finding that the ships had been piloted by the same ancient magic.
The only thing either side could decipher was a set of maps found on the ship. One thing that all of the scholars, Empire or Varden, could agree on was they led to the ancient homeland of the elves, far to the west.
The Varden, desperate to find any trace of the elves' ancient and powerful civilization, as well as hope of locating any surviving dragons, immediately started work on a fleet of ships. These ships would carry brave volunteers to explore the lost land of the elves, and to bring back what aid they could find before all hope was lost.
The Empire, under the order of Galbatorix, also built a powerful fleet. Unlike the Varden, their ships were prepared for war and conquest. Soldiers, mercenaries, scholars, sorcerers, magicians, even Shades and Riders, were gathered. The might of the Empire was being gathered to wage war on the new continent, and to harness whatever they could find to finally crush the Varden once and for all.
Strangely enough, similar boats were spotted in random areas near the sea and large areas, including Narda, the Hardic Desert, and several other locations. These ships were empty, and any passenger who dared set foot in them were seen dragged off by the current towards an unknown location (the continent to the west).
Now, as the two sides race against each other to reach the lost land, what will they find? And who will be the victor in the new war that is sure to come, transplanted far from home, but losing none of the animosity?

Kaala perched on the prow of the ship easily enough even as the boat rocked under her feet. Next to the ship Mirror swam strongly, his silver scales flashing brightly in the sun. "My true Home, Mirror. I'm terrified and yet excited at the same time!" She turned her head up to the sun and a bright smile flashed as her laughter echoed across the ship. There were others here of course, but this was only one of the three ships the Varden had discovered.
"It will be glorious, Kaala! I can feel it in my bones. Mark my words, this will change history." He lunged out of the water and brought his wings down sharply, causing waves in the water as he propelled himself into the warm air. He spiraled upwinds, the droplets drying quickly in the sun causing a slight amount of steam. "I can see land up ahead!" Kaala balanced easily on the rocking prow as she stood straight up, focusing in the way Mirror was facing.
"LAND HO!" She called out, before repeating the phrase excitedly in the Ancient Language.

"I'm telling you, that's a Varden ship!" exclaimed one of the soldiers with the crimson hand embossed on his halberk. "I'm telling you, that's not!" his captain snapped back irratibly. There was land up ahead, but there was another ship, which was much closer to them. Below them, in the prisoner's hold, a group of prisoners were murmuring amongst themselves.
"Ok, so the escape plan is..." "Yeah, that's it..."
There was so much commotion, so much chatter. But only one prisoner really planned on getting off the boat. The prisoners may talk big about taking over the Ship, but Zero could feel the waves beneath them, the subtle movements. He knew what happened when a ship turned, and this definately driven by a human. It wasn't even elf, or Dragon Rider. The ship knew exactly where to go, the correct course, and correct path, and, basically, the correct everything.
It was too perfect.
The Prisoners were the source of energy for the weaker mages under the King's control. But Zero wasn't there to die. He was once again an experiment. Galbatorix's little toy to fool around with. Because Zero couldn't die. Which really, really sucked, especially if you were in prison.
Zero bumped his head against the side of the ship and called two guys, asking when the ship would stop. "Another hour or so," a prisoner said, obviously skilled in magic, though the guards were blissfully ignorant of it. "Excellent. The plan starts there then."

Towards the back of the ship Kaala was aboard, Vedrit looked across the vast water to the other boat, aware of the mages aboard. "The Empire just cant leave well enough alone. Bringing mages and living gems." he mumbled to himself. The living gems referring to the slaves the Empire always carted around for the pet mages. "You know those mages dont have much power without them, though it doesn't change the fact that its cruel." Sonya said, her white scales dimmed in the water as she swam next to the boat, watching the other dragon as it flew. Both looked forward, suddenly livened with excitement, as Kaala announced the approach of land. "Wont be too long. We should be reaching it today, or early tonight, depending on conditions." Vedrit said aloud

Elva was not yet entirely sure what to make of the situation.
She had been somewhat forcibly put on the ship by Angela, with the idea that this little 'adventure' would end up teaching her how to properly behave. Perhaps they thought if she saw what the Empire could do to unsuspecting peoples, her conscience, provided she actually had one floating around somewhere, would wake up and lead her to more actively side with the Varden. But for now, the little girl had decided that though there wasn't much place for someone like her once this war was over, the Varden treated her far better than the Empire was likely to. A war camp certainly beats a prison cell with Shades poking at your mind all day long.
At Kaala's yell, Elva emerged from the darker interior of the ship and came out to stare and otherwise unsettle people. Not that she actively tried to make people uncomfortable- most of the time, anyway- but the population in general found her mere presence unsettling no matter what she did, so she'd given up on trying to act like a normal girl. However, there was still childish curiosity buried under the cynicism, and despite how she may have acted, Elva knew how important and unprecedented this voyage was. None of her kind had ever seen the ancient homeland of the elves, and the raven-haired girl had often dreamed of utopian-like places when she was too small to do anything to alleviate the shared pain of people suffering around her. If such a place could exist in real life, this had to be it.
Elva made her way to the prow of the ship and stood near Kaala, trying to peek over the railing. "It may be a foolish thing, but I cannot help but have hope for this place."

"Why do I need to go?" S'il had a voice that although did not change, still seemed to get whiny. "Don't you have enough of a Varden presence prepared?"
"Because, S'il, you're a dragon rider and we need your abilities and leadership." Colonel Tobin was obviously losing his patience with S'il semantics. He was always a case of pessimism and reluctance.
"Whatever." S'il shrugged as he walked away from Tobin, and sighed. Extending his awareness to Kail, he spoke with his mind, We need to prepare for a long trip, Kail. Apparently we're heading as the secondary force to some island.
They seem to presume that it is your race's original homeland. Kail's sentiment was one of amusement. He knew that S'il didn't care, and nor did he. Both of them were merely going to do their job. They no longer cared. They were too cool for that.
S'il didn't respond. Instead, he flooded their link with emotions of indifference. With that, he prepared for the trip island-way.

Kaala moved aside to offer Elva a better view. "I don't think it is foolish at all. It would be an amazing thing! I know there are those who simply view this as a chance to earn a little coin, but in truth I'm hoping maybe I can finally find out more about who I am. I'm tired of feeling out of sorts with my own kind." She gave the girl an easy smile. "Mayhap it will be all of that and more."

Rynewen looked out curiously from her perch in the treetops. It was hard to tell yet but it appeared that there were ships along the horizon. Hmmm. She would need to get a closer look soon. For now, she would return home. She scaled down the tree easily, her spiky blonde hair vanishing amongst the green

Caranthor loved the oceans. Being an aquamarine color himself, and naturally having an accelerated growth on a diet of fish, porpoises, and even a few sharks, gave him the perfect excuse to call it "Battle Training" and "Survival Tactics". Not that the other dragons agreed. They loved nothing but flight, and while Caranthor was in agreement with their ecstasy, he still loved the surrealness of delving into a world few others on land or in air could survive in for more than a few moments.
Verinas, however, hated her sea voyage. She had initially flown after the Varden fleet, thinking that Arkantos would be in the van of the convoy. Unfortunately, she had been horribly wrong. Not only was Arkantos not on the lead ship, he hadn't even been seen for almost three months, and a much-missed platoon of nearly two dozen men was gone with him. The other Riders had been very scary to her, then, glaring at her and making frighteningly strong oaths in the ancient language, which caused Verinas to absentmindedly lose her cover, dispite the obvious heavy armor, pupil-less eys, and intricately arranged raven-colored black-blue hair. She had been stupid enough to let a prophecy guide her speech, conversing with a female elf in the her native tongue with disturbing accuracy.
Of course, they hadn't let her go, then, now that she was revealed to be from the Empire, and a favorite pet of the King's, besides. Throughout it all, though, she still managed to avoid foreseeing dark fates of those on board, and spent many hours whiling away the time talking to a lttle girl with a curious mark that oozed of magic. Apparently, she had an ability much like hers, though truncated and cruder, but all the more deadly for it.
As the cry of land sped through the ship, Verin sent a mental question to Caranthor, and got only a buzz of happy curiousity, another trait picked up from her, in response.
To top it all off, the sea breezes served to properly ruin her hair. Yes, Verinas, dispite all her irrepressable happiness about almost everything, hated the sea.
Rynewen sighed with worry as she moved through the woods. Whoever those ships belonged to, they certainly weren't from the isle. She ran a slender hand through her shorn hair before reaching down to stroke the downy head of a fawn who had wandered up to her.
"Don't worry, little one. You and your mother will be fine, I swear it." She gave the fawn another pat before returning to the middle of the forest andclimbing the tree once more. The ships were even closer now, obviously being guided by magic. With quick movements she made her way to the ground, heading towards her home. Once inside she took a piece of bark parchment and began penning a note to the elves. A whistle brought a falcon through her window. "I need you to take this to the elders." She spoke to the bird for a moment longer before it took off, winging it's way towards the elven isle.
----------------------------------
Silver scales glinted as Mirror rose from the water, winging his way into the sky, watching something in the distance.
"What is it, Mirror?" Kaala narrowed her eyes, trying to see what he was looking at. All she saw was a bird in flight."
"I'm not sure, but that falcon looks as though it's carrying a message." He grumbled but set down in the water once more, easily keeping pace with the ship. "Obviously someone knows we're coming. I'm sure I spotted a person in the trees not so long ago."

[YAY! I'm bacckkk!]
Creaking, groaning, the scuffling and shrieking of rats and a deeply unpleasant smell of rotting food - and other 'inmates'. his was the easiest way so sum up what had been the apparently sleeping womans home for the past few weeks. There were about five others from what she could tell, but she had never seen them. She couldn't see much in her desolate little cage at the back of what the guards referred to as the brig. Only five, but considering the state of the brig it had once been many more; taken by disease, execution, or smothered like a candle by the Empirian mages as they took the little energy that remained in the prisoners. At least the wailing had stopped. A slight sigh escaped as the womans breathing speeded up to a more regular pace. She sat up - knowing very well what she would see - but still rubbing the sleep from her eyes that had grown when she was meditating.
Blinking in the dark, Rhaxta listened. Her green eyes adjusting and finally managing to glint more detail of the room in the minor light. The young woman wondered whether it was day or night. If there were any windows or portholes in the brig, she couldn't see them from her corner. No matter, it was rarely far off the time a guard would come down to try his best to bait and tease her. He had never gotten a raise out of her, barely even a word. Mostly because she didn't speak his language, and he never seemed to be bothered about getting a mage to interpret. Rhaxta came to the conclusion that this guard was either stupid or just loved the sound of his own voice. On occasion the mages would come interrogate her about her home, her race, and this place they were traveling to. Rhaxta said nothing about the first two - and she couldn't speak on the third even if she wanted to - she had no idea what they were talking about. They were so sure all elves and half elves would know something of it- she just got annoyed and decided she simply had to give them something.
For example, telling them it's main inhabitant other than this new breed was a race of giant bears. Maybe that was a bit too far, but the mage she spoke to seemed to believe her. They must be going somewhere pretty obscure to believe that kind of nonsense. She hummed to herself, trying to come up with a plausible disease of some kind. Maybe something spread by bird or horses or any other kind of farm animal would prove amusing. She wasn't even going to joke about disease spread by rats and other rodent- as she seemed to share her home with a plague.
She pictured her most loathsome guard; quaking like a leaf at the idea of giant bears sneaking up on him while he is panicking over the horse he was riding. She prayed he wasn't actually that idiotic- he was in charge of feeding her. She paused, her thoughts interrupted by a low muttering. She listened hard, but it was too low for even her sensitive ears. It wasn't a language she understood anyway, really. Having been silent for most of the trip, Rhaxta had a bit of a change of heart. And an unbearable boredom headache. ''Anyone as bored of this is as I am?'' she called in the ancient language.
