Not-So-Brief History: When Ash was one year old, the Varden raided Belatona, killing many of the citizens and guards. His mom and dad were 2 of the many guards that died that night, but the best that lived in Belatona. They had fought valiantly, his dad telling his mom to hide Ash, and then to rejoin him. She found Jasper surrounded by 5 Varden soldiers, and that he had killed 3 others on his own. She joined him, verociously fighting to save the city, and Jasper. When they died, guards who were not in on the battle found the sword, than gave it to the care keeper, telling her to give it to Ash when he was ready. He lived for many years not knowing his parents, being raised by a care keeper from whom he learned that his parents were both guarding the city when they died. At 5, he was taught many subjects he would need such as history, math, and most importantly how to read and write. In all this took up the next 5 years of his life. At 10, he was hunting his own game for food, and at 12, could catch any deer, bird, or fish with an arrow. At 13, he was taught swordsmanship, and he had turned out like his father, one of the best swordsman in the entirety of The Empire. After his training was done with the wooden practice swords, he was presented Zar'rocs Ilian, which had proved useful the next year, when he was defending Belatona against another Varden raid, and won, using Zar'rocs Ilian, killing more than any other man. At age 15, he moved to Uru'baen, and started to learn magic from one of the many magicians in Galbatorix's army. Their first few lessons didn't go so well, and most had ended with a statement that rose more questions than it gave answers.
"Ash move your ***... FASTER!" Joesey, his 69 year old magic teacher shouted at him, in one of their first lessons.
"Master, I am not an elf. This is as fast as I can go."
"JUST GO! If you were in the army you have to be FASTER then an elf, STRONGER than an elf, and more importantly MORE SUFFICIANT IN MAGIC THEN A BLEEDING ELF NOW MOVE!"
"Yes Master," Ash said, as sarcasticly as humanly possible, and maybe even more so.
After a while, Joesey said, "STOP!" and they went to the place where they learned magic.
"Now, Ash, if you are more competent than you look, we will start with some more magic."
"Yes Master."
"Now I want you to try to make fire again."
"Yes Master. Brisingr!" Ash shouted, driving for the magic.
A big, red ball of magical fire appeared in the air, then dove towards the ground. Ash stopped it as easily as a dragon stops a dive.
"Good, Good. Give it a little more humph now."
"Master, can't we get into something else?"
"NO!"
"Yes Master. But-"
"There are no buts, but only do or do not. Now try again with the fire. A little more humph now."
"Yes Master. Whatever you say Master."
By 17, he was competent with all but the most complex spells, and wards. At 20, a month before the battle at Belatona, Galbatorix summoned Ash to his court. In the letter he stated:
Ash spent 10 days venturing to Uru'baen, having troubles on the road, to see what egg would hatch, if any. As soon as Ash got to Uru'baen, he went straight to Galbatorix's court, showing the note to any gaurds. When Ash got there, he opened the doors and saw plenty of dragon eggs, that Galbatorix was sure to present to him, any one of which could have hatched. As he walked around, he noticed out of the corner of his eye, one of the green eggs had twitched. It was a stunning forest green egg, wobbling whenever he went near. Galbatorix noticed this too, and told Ash to touch it. As soon as Ash did, the egg wobbled faster and faster until a crack appeared on the egg. Then more and more the egg cracked until a little green dragon, the exact same shade as the egg, popped its head out, smashing its head on Ashes still out held hand. As soon as this happened, Ash felt an icy cold power surge through his blood, and when it had stopped he heard the dragon say as clearly in his head as he would have out loud I am Iormúngr, and I will be the Partner of your heart. Ash had almost fainted from hearing the dragons voice in his head. He was one of the new Forsworn. He was a rider. The next month was spent with Galbatorix, as he tried to guess their true names. He eventually figured them out, and forced them to swear unfaltering allegiance to him. Then Galbatorix tested all of their powers, and dove into every aspect of their personality's. He had one of his shades cast a spell on Iormúngr to make him bigger than he normally would be. Galbatorix finally sent them to a place where they could stay, until he needed them. Iormúngr and Ash have been waiting ever since.

Come Iormúngr please. We need to do this. You know how Galbatorix made us swear in the ancient language.
I know little one, just calm down. We can do this. All we have to do is command the guards here. From what i see of you're memorys, your parents were the best in your birthplace. You can do it. We can do it together.
I know, but why. Why us, we are too... too...
Too young? Too inexperienced?
Exactly
Stop fretting. Galbatorix would not make us do this unless we were ready. And you know what wards he put around you and me. We are both safe.
Yes, but what if Eragon and Saphira are there. They would kill us both.
If that big blue dragon tries to do ANYTHING to you i will rip her throat out with my teeth and my claws.
Come now, is there need for such violence? Peace Iormúngr, peace
Yes you do have a point. But i still stand to what i said before. Now you have Zar'rocs Ilian with you. An... what do you humans call that? Oxymiron?
Close, oxymoron
Bah.
Come on. Now i have a riddle for you, to take you mind off the battle at hand. I can eat 100 sheep and still be hungry, I am every color of the rainbow, Red and Green and Blue. What am I?
A dragon. Duh Iormúngr thought confidently.
No. A wool rug Ash thought laughing at Iormúngr's look.
Enough. Lets go.
"FOR THE EMPIRE! DON'T LET THEM THROUGH!" Ash shouted to the soldiers Galbatorix had put him in charge of. While Ash shouted to the soldiers, Iormúngr roared with all of his might. Then the battle commenced, archers were shooting off vollys of arrows, swordsman running through the streets, the Varden fast aproching. "BRISINGR!!!" Ash shouted, reaching, as his old teacher had taught him to, into the flow of magic in his mind. Iormúngr, being just big enough to carry Ash, flew off with him, and swept down on the Varden, clawing them with every pass. "Good job Iormúngr," Ash told him both with his mind and his mouth.
