Alanoth had simply watched the whole exchange, making no interference or attempt to make his presence known whatsoever. In fact, the elf named Breton's outrage was not only a surprise to the old halfling, but also disgusting. How can an elf, a Rider, lose their self-control and composure like that?
Apparently the old Rider had not been as stealthy as he had first suspected of himself, as evidenced by not only Breton's raging yell, but also that of the other elf's calm call, the one called Feanaro. After some thought, Alanoth stopped hiding, and stepped into the clearing calmly, pulling back his hood to reveal his half-human half-elf face and head. This he did as a gesture of trust.
He bowed once within easy sight, his ancient blades hanging from his belt and gleaming in the sunlight. "Atra esterní ono thelduin. Mor'ranr lífa unin hjarta onr. Un du evarínya ono varda." The ancient warrior and Rider greeted to them in the ancient language perfectly, then stood erect and imposing, yet also inspiring. "I am not here to harm anyone, I am here to observe, to see how Alagaesia has changed in the years I have been absent. The Battle of Bellatona revealed to me the war, now you Riders show me how our hope looks."

Brenton, who had been watching the face and body language of the figure in the trees saw the contemptuous look and gestures that he gave to the prince. For that, Brenton would show this elf how things were and just how much hope there actually was in the world, even with things like today happening. Welcome, I am Brenton Bromsson, son of Islanzadi and second heir to the throne of Ellesmera. He was sure that Alanoth wasn't really someone worth his trouble but Brenton made sure to have Undbitr ready as well as the dagger that he kept hidden for a time of dire need.
After having turned to address the new comer, Brenton spoke to the courier. I am sorry for your fate but it is better if you do not use words like prison if they are referred to as loosely. Brenton looked at his student and gave him a warning glance. He wasn't sure that Alanoth was all that reliable and he was sure that things weren't as they appeared.
So, strange elf, what is your name and why do you wish to observe us? If anything, I say you should at least allow our greatest trainers to determine if you are worthy of seeing what we are doing here.

Alanoth watched the young man before him, listening to the way he spoke. His name was unfamiliar, but his supposed mother's was. Alanoth himself had been there when her birth was announced to the elves, though he was in hiding. If this lad was truly the son of Islanzadi, then perhaps this old Rider should give some more respect.
When the Prince finally asked for his name, Alanoth bowed again, taking one knee on the grass. "My apologies, your Highness, I was not aware that the great Rider Brom had a son, or that Queen Islanzadi did either. I was there at the announcing of your mother's birth, though not at her coronation ceremony. I am known as Alanoth, first Rider, Harbinger of Wondrous Life and Terrible Destruction. But to you, heir to the throne of Du Weldenvarden, I am but a humble servant."

Brenton stared down at the rider, Alanoth and smiled grimly. It was nice to have someone respect him but in the Rider's standard, Alanoth had more seniority over him. Stand Ebrithil, for I am not the first heir to the throne, and I am also a rider. Although my dragon is no longer with us. I'm sure if you ask him, Vaentr may speak through the Eldunari anyway.

Feanaro stood there silently as jarkore landed behind him. Watching the exchange between Brenton and the new comer whom he now learned was a rider or old. Feanaros duel elven long knives clanged slightly off his back as jarkore walked over to join his rider. The rider always had this weapon on him after his father had presented them to him and they have served him well.
After Brenton and the rider alanoth exchanged words feanaro looked to the old rider an touched his lips with his fingers following through with the proper elven greeting "Greetings alanoth I am feanaro shadeslayer son of deraj an I am also called by some as the shadow My dragon is jarkore."

Alanoth stood as requested, paying special attention to what Brenton had to say. So he was an heir to the throne, just not the heir. And he was a Rider, that much he had ascertained based upon the way they had been training earlier. His strength reminded the Harbinger of the old days, the days when Riders were plentiful, and were powerful. These days....you either served Galbatorix, or you served the Varden.
He bowed from the waist once more to the Prince, then returned the Elven greeting to the other Rider. "Greetings feanaro, may the starts shine upon you." He gazed at the dragon Jarkore and bowed to it, speaking with it mentally. Greetings, honorable dragon jarkore. It is good to see one of your kind again, after so many centuries.

As soon as Alanoth stood, Brenton did the traditional elven greeting to show that he respected those that were not royalty. Still, Brenton knew that he was not as high in Rider ranks. Alanoth, Ebrithil, why have you returned to Ellesmera now? It is a time of war and we could have used you in the fight before my father was killed.
Vaentr suddenly noticed that he hadn't spoken for awhile and he knew that he should speak to those around his rider. The dragon Eldunari cast his mind out to encompass all around them. Alanoth, it is a pleasure to know that there is still a rider from old. I am Vaentr, soul partner of Brenton Bromsson. Brenton, really, you shouldn't blame others for Brom protecting your half brother. If not for Eragon, we wouldn't be as far in the war as we are now. Jarkore, I believe it is time for us to train. So we should make this encounter short and you should learn how to fly while attacking. Unfortunately, it will have to be a shadow cast dragon that you train with. Vaentr ended his contact and waited for a reply.

Feanaro listens as vaentr spoke to them through his mental link. The elven warrior was wounderng a few things as vaentr spoke to alanoth and jarkore. One feanaro wondered if alanoth knew his father deraj, his father was alive during the hight of the riders power an was even a good friend of oromise at the time. Feanaro was always thought to be destined yo be a great warrior like his father the whole wile he grew up. Another was if either he or Brenton knew of the sauce he kills who's name he found out was valec.
Once vaentr was done speaking jarkore answered almost right away. "of course veantr~elda I am ready when you are to begin training I have never battled against anyone it thing besides feanaro when we sometimes sparred against eachother so we could see how we fared against dragon and elf so when the time came I know I can hold my own against normal humans and feanaro knows how to defend against a dragon if he ever finds him self face to face with one."

Alanoth would have answered Brent as calmly as he could with the best explanation he could produce, but then he sensed an Eldunari speak to his mind. In fact it was a very old Eldunari, that much he could tell. He almost thought it to be familiar at first, but the name Vaentr didn't seem familiar. He bowed respectfully to Brent while mentally responding to Vaentr just after the dragon Jarkore did. Thank you, honorable Eldunari Vaentr, it is good to know that more than just young dragons have survived Galbatorix's cruelty.

Brenton grinned as he heard the conversation that had started between Vaentr and the rest. It was especially amusing because Alanoth believed that Vaentr was an elder dragon. Just as Brenton was going to correct the elder rider, Saphira spoke up.
Alanoth, it has been awhile since we have last spoke, but I believe you knew my partner. His name was Brom and he was a rider of the old era. Anyhow, Vaentr is just a youngling compared to you and I. He will take the praise you have given him but to be honest, 12 years isn't that long of a time.
Vaentr had been soaking in all that was being said when he decided it was time to train. Brenton, please cast the spell to create a shadow dragon. Jarkore and I need to train and I am unable to cast it right now. The eldunari was rather impatient and now that the attention had been turned from him, he felt it was perfect time to train.

Alanoth was again surprised when the dragon Saphira spoke up. Her mind was indeed familiar, and it was good to know that someone from his era was still alive besides Galbatorix. He smiled and bowed deeply to her remarks, returning her words directly to her so that Brenton, Vaentr, and Jarkore would not be distracted from their training.
Yes, noble Saphira, I do remember Brom. He was a staut and fierce warrior, who I respected greatly for how much his dedication was given to the cause of the Riders. My sympathies for your loss, I know how painful it is to lose an unbound partner and then live on far past them. Believe me, I've been alive for almost a milennia and had to watch as Galbatorix's followers deprived me of Casamir. As to Vaentr, 12 years is a long time for any dragon to live that won't serve Galbatorix from what I've heard.

Saphira felt rather amused when Vaentr made it a point to leave the conversation. He was always so withdrawn, especially now that he couldn't fly, but when the attention was on him, Vaentr was a completely different person entirely. Yet when that attention was directed somewhere else, then he was right back to being withdrawn. That's the thing, Alanoth. Vaentr and Brenton were forced into the service of Galbatorix for those 12 years. It was only a few months ago that they successfully escaped the Empire. As a matter of fact, they were able to escape because of the rider that Brenton just returned from visiting in Ellesmera.
Brenton grinned and then cast the shadow dragon into existance. Then he watched as the beast rose and Vaentr's mind went out and melded into the shadow form so that he could control it better than through Brenton.

Alanoth nodded in response to Saphira, then was distracted by Brenton's summoning. Remarkable, he hadn't seen anyone, let alone a Rider, achieve a spell like that in some time. Then the Eldunari Vaentr's possession of the shadow form was also most impressive. Remarkable.
He returned his attention to Saphira. Truly? That would explain why Brenton and Vaentr seem to have such a strong bond to each other, that sort of bond only comes as a result of bearing hardship together. Just how effective are they together, by your estimation?

Jarkore looked at the shadow dragon as it was created out of nothing. He felt vaentrs mind mold with it so his elder dragon can control the puppet as they trained. Jarkore felt anxious for he had never battled a dragon before so he looked to feanaro who stood next to his partner arms folded an a slight smirk on his face.
Feanaro could feal the curiosity, an anxiety jarkore felt at the prospect of battling a fellow dragon as the shadow dragon took flight. Feanaro put a hand on jarkores front leg "do not worrie brother, go an fight smart, and fight hard. Listen to everything vaentr tells you, there is much you can learn from him. So go fly an train hard when you get back we can go flying and you can shoe me some of the moves you learns." Feanaro felt a low rumble vibrate thru jarkore as he shook slightly with satisfaction at feanaros words. And with a mighty roar took off to join vaentr.
Feanaro looked up with a pleased look on his face at the site of jarkore gong to train. Then he focused his attention to the two riders in front of him.

((Wow, it's been almost a month since I last posted a real reply in this thread. Well, here we go again))
Saphira felt a true pride well up within her soul as she communicated with Alanoth. In many senses, she knew not of the potential of Brenton and Vaentr, yet she had seen many fights with the two of them winning. As a matter of fact she had seen the fight between Brenton and Uruale. That particular fight had given hope to her and had raised her spirits in the time of their captivity. That would be her story to Alanoth. Well, I would have to say that they are truly great when they fight together, yet most of the time Brenton is too eager to charge into battle. With that said, he does no heed danger and when someone stronger faces him, the young rider will still attack without any plans being made. Now that that is said, I witnessed the battle that freed them from captivity.
The battle was a real heated fight that had started when Brenton had entered to save a captive that had been taken from the Varden. Even though he was an Empire rider for twelve years, Brenton had held onto his morals and beliefs that he was good and that torture was wrong. When Brenton entered, he had destroyed the cell block door and a metal wall on the way in. This angered another Empire rider, Uruale, who soon started in with a rivalry against Brenton. This rivalry grew until Brenton freed Nandon, the captive but made it look like he was still chained to the wall. Since the rivalry had caused a hole to be opened in the side of the wall, Nandon was able to jump and Vaentr caught him. After that, Brenton "chased" Nandon and was pursued by Uruale. This was when another Varden rider came up, one who was still a baby in our years, and he helped distract Uruale and Flare. When that happened, Brenton used the energy from the surroundings and himself as well as Vaentr and I to create an attack of pure force that drove Uruale away, with an oath to kill Brenton and all who were involved during that fight.
Brenton was watching his shadow dragon when Vaentr took control and rose into the sky. When the dragons were gone, Brenton turned back to Feanaro and Alanoth. So, we are now able to talk again. Feanaro, have you ever heard the story of how Vaentr and I defeated the Empire rider Uruale? I believe I started back at the house but never finished. Anyhow, it would be a great story to tell so that you can hear of the magic and spells I had to use in order to keep Vaentr and I alive.
Vaentr used the shadow creature to create a weak roar, since there were no real vocal organs. Yet the roar was meant to be a challenge. Jarkore, you shall need to learn how to dodge attacks before you learn to attack. So let's start with some basics. As soon as the dragon finished, he used his new form to dip his left wing to the side and roll to that side in order to dodge an attack from the right. Then he paused and did the same move except to the right.

Feanaro watched happy as jarkore went off to finally get the proper training. He kept his gaze to the sky a little longer before the sound of brentons voice brought him back. Looking at Brenton curiously for the name uruale rang a bell in feanaros mind "no my friend I don't believe I've herd this tale, I had no idea you battled uruale. That name strikes a cords in the back of my mind but im not sure why. I believe I've herd of this person wile on my travels. I wouldn't mind hearing the tale though if out wish to tell it, if everyone wants to go back to the training building we could have some food an drink wile jarkore an vaentr train an you can tell us this tale.".
Jarkore watched and listened as vaentr began his lesson starting with the basics useing the shadow dragon. The black dragon watched as vaentr avoided an attack from a imaginary opponent. First from the left then from the right, once vaentr finished jarkore waited till he was sure his fellow dragon was intact finished an watching. Once satisfied jarkore began to fly around and then he did as vaentr did. Dodging an attack first from the left an then from the right.after completing his rolls jarkore did a quick corkscrew in the air then turned to face vaentr. "how was that?."

Vaentr watched with interest as his student started to repeat the moves that had been used. As he continued to move in order to face Vaentr again, Vaentr realized that Jarkore might be able to use something like that in battle. Finally tiring of the basics, Vaentr replied. You have a good form when you use evasive moves, but are you as good with attacks as you are with defending yourself? Like with that corkscrew at the end, it would be a really good way to go from defending your flank to immediately lashing out. Having said that, Vaentr used the shadow dragon to again roll to the left to avoid a right flanked attack and then he manipulated the figure to do a corkscrew turn so that he was now facing the other direction and swung the tail out to disable or stun an opponent. Vaentr turned back to Jarkore. Now you try it.
