The sky was cloudy, promising rain later in the day as a large red dragon landed just outside the town of Bullridge. In the town a few cries of surprise and alarm would be heard. Bullridge was in the domain of the Empire but even so the people often feared the Empire Riders.
Murtagh remained in the saddle on Thorn's back. Zor'ac hung at his side glistening only slightly in the dim cloudy light. The rider sighed then tugged the straps on the saddle to loosen them. Sometimes he felt like he was Galbatorix's errand boy rather than the Champion General. It wasn't like he had a choice though.
"Be careful," Thorn warned in a deep musical voice. "I always am," Murtagh said. "I won't be long." He jumped off Thorn's back and landed softly on the ground. He glanced back at Thorn a look of regret on his face. "I don't want to do this," Murtagh said. "Emiryal and Firern gained their freedom...I-"
Thorn lowered his head. "You don't have a choice," he said and gently nudged his rider towards the city. Emiryal and Firern had managed to break their oath to Galbatorix and fled. However, they had been betrayed in Bullridge and captured. Murtagh was here to retrieve them and see they were properly punished.

Aysten had been sent back to the town of his birth by the varden...they had recieved unconfired reports of a rider and dragon that had broken away from the king being held prisoner here. They had sent him because since his training with the elves he become one of the most skilled non riders the varden had....and since eragon was off on another mission he had been sent to free the rider and dragon and possibly get there aid for the varden. He plodded in on a donkey....a animal that in a small town like this would make him seem as a simple traveler. And his garb only further the fact. He hunched down low as he felt a dragon fly over head and land near the town followed by cries of alarm. He quickly left the donkey and ran towards the town quickly. Casting a invisibilty spell as he went....this trip just got interesting

Murtagh had not taken notice of Aysten. He pulled his cloak tighter around him, as it was a little bit cold. As he walked into town the guards stood to attention saluting him. He wasn't attempting to hide his identity, there was no need his prey was already cornered. His hand slipped to Zar'oc's hilt. It seemed he was always in danger and always remained ready to defend himself. The few people that had remained in the streets after seeing Thorn fly by, quickly moved aside to let Murtagh pass. The rider headed for one of the nicer buildings in the town. Though compared to Uru'bane this building was rather shoddy and unimpressive. It was a simple wood structure with a roof that needed repairs. What made it stand out was the large black dragon in an empty lot. The dragon's wings were bound with ropes, it wasn't the ropes that stopped him from getting away but the fact that his rider would be killed if he tried anything. Not wanting to take any risks Murtagh raised his left hand and spoke. "Malthinae skulblaka thrysta deloi." Firern the black dragon was now secured by magic and would not be able to do anything. He glared at Murtagh and looked ready to attack where he not bound. Murtagh was one of the few who had the power to completely immobilize even a dragon.

Aysten began to run through the streets his feet pounding down the street quickly as he ran towards murtagh...he saw him enter the building and quickly entered behind him before the door shut...now he faced the delema of how to free the rider from murtaghs magic of course maybe if he could distract murtagh for a couple moments maybe the pair could get free....but that was a tough maybe

The building was dimly lit on the inside and smelled of stale ale and burnt food. Murtagh glanced back at the door he'd just came through as though he might suspect Aysten was there. After a moment hesitation Murtagh shrugged and turned to look at the only other visible person in a room. Emiryal was tied and slumped against the far wall. He was drugged so he'd be unable to use magic, but otherwise looked unharmed. The elf was unconscious. Murtagh walked over to him and drew Zar'oc and cut the ropes that held Emiryal. The elf's eyes opened and looked up surprised when Murtagh cut the ropes that held him. He hadn't been unconscious. "It's not like you'll be able to get away from me anyways, besides you'll spend plenty of time tied up when we get back to Urubaen," he said. He sheathed the blood red sword and lifted Emiryal to his feet. "Malthinae," he said binding Emiryal by magic.

Aysten held his breath as murtagh looked straight at him then he let it out qiuetly as murtagh looked away he studied the rider he had been sent to capture then he had a flash of inspiration as he reached out his mind for one of the guards on the other side of the door and quickly took control, he got the one gaurd to kill the other quietly and hide him....before he had him walk through the door and speak to murtagh "Sir!"" He had him say "we have someone infiltrating the town....he hasilled two guards abut we finally caught him....the mayor has asked that you interogate him since you are known for getting information from someone...."(( he said getting the guard to finish before aysten prayed to what gods there where that murtagh fell for the ruse
(( Hope that wasnt a power play or god moding....i was just trying to figure out a creative way that aysten could get murtagh away....))

Murtagh turned quickly as the guard entered, Zar'oc had already been drawn again and was in his hand. "I do not answer to the mayor nor anyone in this town. Remember that," he reprimanded. "An infiltrator is none of my concern." Unless it was a member of the Varden the infiltrator was a trivial matter and one he didn't need concern himself with. "What if this infiltrator has something to do with Emiryal, a spy perhaps," Thorn said, having been listening through his rider the whole time. "It's not like Emiryal will be able to go anywhere. The guards have held him for a few days they can hold him for a hour more.""Thorn, I'm not sure. It could be just some petty matter," he said. "And if it's not?" Thorn said. Murtagh clenched one hand into his fist and slammed Zar'oc back into the sheath. "Alright," he said both to the guard and to Thorn. "But I want double guards on this Rider." "Thorn, fly overhead. I want to take no chances on Emiryal and Firern," he said. He felt Thorn take off with a few powerful strokes of his wings and move to circle over the building Emiryal and Firern were in. Murtagh opened the door and left the room. He set off at a quick pace the sooner he found out about this infiltrator the better. (no, that was just fine.)

(Cool cool i figured it was pretty clever )) Aysten breathed a giant sigh of relief as emiryal left...the guard told him where the infiltrator was and then left pulling the other guards into the alley where the first one was before killing them quickly and then aysten had him knock himself out.... the guards where taken care of now but not thorn....of course he reasoned he could always just make the rider invisible....but what about his dragon....aysten pushed such thoughts aside as he once more became visible almost materialiizing in the room....he glanced at the rider and ran over to him slapping him in the face to try and get him awake "quick we need to get you out of here before the red rider returns!"(( aysten said in a quiet voice

Deep, heavy breathes came from back of the wood-made building housing the traitorous empiric rider Firern. Nepherion swiped the immaculate blade of Brojska towards the ground, the crimson splashes of blood on it hit the soil with weight as the body of the two guards fell to the ground. Nepherion appeared tired and his clothing looked worn. Before getting this far he had weathered through weeks of the Empire's forces and the struggles of sneaking within Empirial lines without being seen, that coupled with protecting a force of five other Varden soldiers had all but left him feeling as if he had been through war itself. " What now, Sir Nepherion. " A youth, muscular, man asked. The rugged appearance of his full beard made Nepherion feel undeserving of his respect. The white haired boy looked at the four ragged soldiers behind him, he was crouched low to the ground and faced his group. Normally he would be asking them what to do, but with Bid'Daum's counsel he was able to lead them fairly well. " We need be prepared for anything, my wards on you guys should be weakened by now, so you guys have to be careful. " he warned. Though he doubted his own smudges and bruises had instilled any kind of hope in them.
He took note of the mans' wandering eyes and misplaced gazes. " They are not sure if the mission will succeed.. " Starlight said, listening in on the situation and sounding majestically noble. Nepherion's eyes peered pass the crouched bodies of his fellow infiltrators and towards the North where Starlight was hiding, ready for war if the need so came.
" They're tired and demoralized. " Nepherion sighed openly, aware of the stark quietness that had taken over his men. " And we don't have time to baby them, our target is waiting in there for us." he argued with himself.
Soon another voice boomed within the mindscape of dragon and rider." You shouldn't have to baby them. " Bid'Daum spoke out. " They are not infants. Be the leader that you should be and they will follow without fail." As usual Nepherion couldn't argue with Bid'Daum's bluntness, all he could do was fill determined and sure of his next move.
The sound of wings beating the wind overhead deafened the sound of the small group, lowering their strategy talk to mere whispers. " Alright guys, we're moving in. " The group of man stood up with Nepherion, looking on at the back of the shorter yet resolute rider. He felt that they gained at least some hope from his utter display of sureness. Nepherion held Brojska at his side as he filed into the building with his men behind him, ready to attack at the drop of a dime.
It didn't take them much time to navigate through building, though it was big compared to the others, it was still no where as big as the buildings of Belatona. The group rounded a doorway and saw a man aiding their target. Nepherion raised the back of his hand to halt his group when he entered. " What are you doing here ? " he asked coldy, unsure and yet almost ready to pounce on this unknown variable. His grip around Brojska tightened as he took a affirmative step forward. The skin on his body dimly illuminated with a warm glow.

Emiryal didn't take long to wake when Aysten slapped his face. He didn't know who Aysten was and assumed the worse. His face was full of determination, until Aysten spoke. " Who are you?" he said, unable to move much as Murtagh's magic still bound him and Firern. The elf's mind was hazy from the drugs and it was hard to focus. His mind kept threatening to drift off away from the present. When Nepherion and his men entered the room, the elf glanced at them, not sure whose side they were on. It didn't matter though as he was in no condition to fight back.

Aysten heard the heavy tromp of men running through the building long before he saw emiryal glance back at him. When nepherion spoke he muttered a curse. "Well....i guess the jig is up eh? Im from the varden sent to get this prisoner....if you want to harm him you will have to go through me....and that will certainly not be pleasent...." aysten said a sudden protectiveness coming over him yowards the elf

Nepherion didn't take to kind to threats and just saying that he was with the Varden wasn't enough. All he had to do was take Emiryal into his custody and he certainly didn't have the time to play with unknowing humans. Nepherion walked up to Emiryal and uncaringly pass the man. His eyes soften up a little at the elves' familiar face but still held the seriousness of the situation. " Running from the Empire eh ? Why don't you let me help you with that. " he joked casually trying to ease the dire situation a little.
The four warriors behind him kept lookout for any guards and one particular older man said. " Do we really have time for small talk Sir Nepherion. Shouldn't we get out of here as fast as possible. " Nepherion turned towards the man and nodded in agreement. " You have magic binding you dontcha ? " he asked Emiryal. Nepherion took a moment to try and dispel it but was quickly halted by its complexity. " Whoever put this spell on you is far stronger than me. " he admitted.
Without further delay he placed the elf's arm over his shoulder and stood up before motioning for two of the warriors to carry him. " You should had thought more into this before requesting to find Emiryal. " interrupted Starlight.
" You may be right, but I can't change my decisions now. All we can do is go with the escape plan. " Nepherion took the forefront of the group and whether or not Aysten would follow them was his choice but regardless Nepherion would be leaving with the elven man. He readjusted his grip on Brojska's handle while the two other warriors on his side started to exit the room.

Emiryal was surprised that Aysten and Nepherion both seemed to be wanting to help him. He didn't like the Varden almost as much as he disliked the Empire, though his opinion of them was starting to change. He smiled faintly at Nepherion's jest. The elf was tired not from any bad treatment by his captors but simply fatigue from traveling so far so fast. And the drugs were not helping his hazy mind. "Murtagh," he said. "Murtagh bound me."A sudden look of worry crossed his face as he was picked up. "Firern, I won't leave my dragon behind," he said. He wasn't sure where Firern was as the drugs clouded his mind to much to contact him. Unknown to him Firern was outside the building, bound with the same spells Murtagh had used on him if not more powerful seeing as it was a dragon. Thorn circled overhead now watching any sign of movement and waiting for Murtagh to return. He felt his riders anger as he realized the guard had lied to him. He was on his way back now.

Aysten bristled with anger as the man completely ignored him and as nepherion grew closer he would notice aystens ears being pointed. As emiryal was picked up and started to be carried out aysten muttered under his breath just loud enough for nepherion to hear "by god...nandon and breton definitly didnt teach me to work with assholes like this..." then when aysten went to follow nepherion out one of the men went to stop him and aysten promptly punched him in the face before walking past him. "Murtagh will be back soon....we need a plan or we are screwed..."

Nepherion looked over his shoulder at Emiryal, a very cofindent and yet kind smile lifted his lips, even his eyes had seemed to glow with a vibrant passion. " I'm not the same little boy from before. No worries, we'll save Firern too. " His voice was without the aid of magic and yet sounded assuring to the ear, as if he had already known the outcome of this little adventure.
After that. a loud " GAWK !! " was heard before the body of one of his man stumbled back. His kind expression suddenly snapped to a furious and intimidating one as he brought the tip of Brojska inches to the man's throat. Due to the bond between Dragon and Rider, the sword came in a split second much faster than any normal human could perceive. The white sword shimmered with a wave of white as he held it there.
When your carrying an ancient eldunari around like Bid'Daum you really have no choice but to develop a strong awareness. The elder dragon tested him routinely with random assaults of unpleasant mental attacks. On numerous occasions it was only by the help of Starlight that he was spared from a losing consciousness.
Nepherion didn't take kindly to his men being struck. Aysten would lose an arm if he had dared do it again. Even a human as arrogant as him should have know the might of a angered Dragon Rider. After a quick second of having him think over his action and options, Nepherion would bring the sword back down to his side. " I know we don't have time for this but these men are under my protection. If you're really with the Varden like you say you are then I doubt you're very respected among them. Stay in your place. " he ordered. A moment later Nepherion looked towards the man who was struck. He appeared a little thinner than the others and held a angered expression on his smooth and hairless face. " You're gonna have to take that punch on the shoulder and keep moving. No time for resentment.... " Nepherion told him, seeing the anger in his eyes as he massaged his chin.
Nepherion let out a deep breathe as he moved his man out the into the corridors and hopefully back out into the shadows of the slightly protruding roof of the building. His next goal would be to contact Starlight and have his man file out back through the town. He, himself would have to act as a distraction and now devise a plan to free Firern. Just how he would do that though was the problem. Up above he could still hear the giant mass known as Thorn circling them. " That Murtagh guy is no pushover. " he said to himself but loud enough for the others to hear. " He's covered all his bases. "

Being drugged up Emiryal wasn't in much of a mind to realize what was going on. All he knew was he wouldn't leave his dragon behind. The slight skirmish seemed to go unnoticed by the elf. "Nepherion, are you alright?" a familiar voice said reaching out to his mind. Caspian knowing of Nepherion's mission had decided to come and see if he could help. Having only unlocked his magic not long ago he wouldn't be much help magic wise, but his skills with the sword had improved a lot. "Is there anything we can do?" he asked. He had no idea what was going on but from where Sephora flew just above the clouds he could see Thorn circling and had assumed the worst.

Aysten eyed the sword pointed at him with disdain. Him punching nepherions man had more been a test than anything to see how much junk he would take. Then he nodded aprovingly when he noticed the gruff but tender treatment of his men. "Alright....i have an idea.... Murtagh may have all bases covered but that is only the case if magic wasnt a part of it...you" aysten said pointing at nepherion "you are a rider yes? That is a rider sword so you must be one....anyways. what we need to do is one make several clones....just visual ones....we must distract murtagh as he is no doubt on his way back now....and also i think we should do several of those kind of clones with your dragon...it will confuse thorn especially if we mix your dragon in with the clones...."then aysten said quite proud of his idea.
(( ok when i said clones i meant the thing blohdgarm did making the shadow of eragon when eragon was away from the varden....so ya...))

Nepherion looked over his shoulder at Aysten, who had proposed an idea to him. His expression was serious with thought as he looked back up towards the thunderous flaps. " That's a good idea in theory, " he whispered. " But it takes a massive amount of magic just to imitate one Rider and Dragon. I, nor my partner have the magic to do that and protect you guys if we run into trouble along the way.. " he explained, clenching his hand around Brojska again in frustration. Honestly he detested the thought of having to go up against a legend like Murtagh. He could remember Eragon always warning him to flee in the sight of a crimson scaled dragon and a Empire warrior clad in its more menacing armor. Nepherion gulped down his anxiety so that his warriors wouldn't see.
" Do not react so unsightly Nepherion. We have trained vigorously since the days of our beginnings and has raised higher than most others could have dreamed of. We can take this Murtagh and Thorn shall the problem arise. " Starlight assured him with a calm and noble tone.
A moment later he was brought out of his private conversation. " Sir Nepherion, What now ? " asked the Warrior who had been socked earlier. Nepherion looked up towards Thorn then said. " We need to sneak pass Thorn. If we can't do that than we're done for. " he answered. Another warrior asked. " What if Murtagh catches up to us, we're all going to be captured if that happens right ? " Nepherion didn't exactly have the answer for that one, so he remained quite.
The absence of his answer had left a deathly silence amongst his tired men. And left Nepherion with a dreaded feeling hanging over him.
It was in this silence that a new ray of hope had touched his mind. Nepherion smiled immediately after chastising himself for letting his emotions lower his mental guard. " Yea. " he answered, relaying the entire situation over to Caspian through his memories. Nepherion's voice grew serious with grave as he spoke the next part. " There is actually, I need you to free Firern while I distract Thorn and Murtagh... " He knew that Caspian couldn't see this, but on his face was a bead of sweat and the eyes of a resolute and made-up man. " Think you can do that ? " he asked.

As aaysten idea was turned down he furrowed his brow thinking intensely. Eventually he came to only one conclussion and whiped his daggers out twirling them around once before settling them in his hands "well...i guess we shall fight our way out...your men should go Nepherion...pherhaps you could make our rider here invisible and they can slip away with him in empire soldier uniforms..."

As Nepherion awaited Caspian's answer -probably in deep thought, no doubt about it - he looked over his shoulder at Aaysten again, though this time his gaze was a little more shocked than angered. " You want to fight our way through ? Thorn is right above us and You want to fight ? " Nepherion turned his eyes back forwards and listened out for Thorn. " That's very brave but stupid. Your daggers wouldn't be enough to even scratch that monster. You'll need much more, " he said, switching Brojska to his other hand and holding it out to the side of him so Aasyten could see it. Its immaculate blade shimmered with a wave of magic as Nepherion brought its edge slightly upward. " A Riders blade. The strongest weapon in my arsenal besides my partner. I think you should just sit this one out. " he told the guy.
His warriors on the other hand held tight to Emiryal, awaiting Nepherion's orders. They had some respect for him because of his success with previous missions and his high charisma, especially with being so young. They just had to imagine surviving it all.
