Damien: Oromis is constantly making me giggle. I so wish I could hang with him. x3;;; The thing that really ticked me off in Eldest was the part where Eragon very suddenly becomes attracted to Trianna. It was so random. First he was kind of ticked off with her, and the next moment he's forgotten all about Arya and becomes completely love-struck. There was no mention of her using magic on Eragon either, which I was expecting Saphira to mention after she interrupted them and scared Trianna away. Nothing. Just really, really random, even out-of-character attraction. >_>;;

Maybe she was just a pretty girl and he is a teenage boy with pretty much no experience in romance. A female with not bad looks seems to come on to him and he finds her attractive not so strange.

I still found it random and out of place. >_>;;;

I'm writing, right now, a six book series. I'm on the last chapter of the first draft of the first book, and I've got at least 800 pages of backstory, no joke, no exaggeration. I've been working on this since I was 13. I'm nineteen. My backstory isn't halfway done being written, but it's all in my head, and I forget nothing, so I feel I have enough to continue the manuscript. ...D: If you ever need to hire an illustration artist, please find me. I'll probably be in a box, on a street somwhere, drawing in the grime on the sidewalk with my finger.

800 pages of anything is enough to make me writhe. And I'm assuming the font is smaller than, say, comic sans 14, yes?

Anyone else also think that the magic is much too strong in Eragon? The Insta-death words are rather cheap. Just sever someone's spinal cord. It is somewhat nice to be able to do that, but it renders regular soldiers useless unless they can sneak up behind the caster. Atleast in most other books, movies or games, there are physical manifestations of the magic that you are capable of dodging or deflecting. This is just way too powerful.

I don't like the fact that it uses so much energy. *likes the Fire Emblem system, where mages are soft and squishy and do not react well to swords*
But yes, the magic does seem very powerful. Just like the elves. And elves aren't even endangered or rare, they're actually locally common.
By physical manifestations, do you mean great flaming balls of fire, or something like it?

Are you writhing, now? And Gildor. I need you NOW. I can't draw maps to save my life, and I want a picture of one particular area so badly, I can taste it. Oh, and Damien, was the part that made you giggle the obvious, and very horribly written homo-eroticism in which Eragon "checks out" Oromis bathing? If not, then, excuse my rudeness.

Yes, yes it is. T'was hilarious, and so was the bit where Orik got drunk.
And you wrote it down!? My sympathies to your poor, poor hand. I can hardly write the four hundred words for compositions without getting stabbing pain in the wrist. And that's one page, both sides . . .

I totally agree with Nihael. The magic is way too strong, so strong that it's unfair. At least in star wars you could shoot a Jedi if he's too slow. And Eragon and Saphira by themselves can destroy half an army. Does anyone else think that's a bit unfair?
