Not-So-Brief History: Alanoth was born obviously a long time ago, and was very young when he was seperated from his parents who met under odd circumstances. Both Alanoth's mother and father were warriors who met on Alagaesia's coast just before the Elves became known to the dragons. Alanoth's father had been on a ship which was destroyed by a storm, and he had floated in the water on a raft until the Elves found him. They had not seen a human before and so had no idea what to think of him. When he regained consciousness, he had no memory of where he was, and so attacked the Elves on the ship out of fear. He fought so well, only one Elf was able to stop him through luck after he had injured half the crew--Alanya
She suppressed him by throwing a barrel of water at him, which hit him in the back as he was about to stab the ship's captain. The human went down hard, and Alanya pinned him with her sword at his throat, staring hard into his eyes. So captivated by her was he, that he didn't even realize she was speaking another language until she pressed the blade closer to his throat. The Elves finally saw that he did not know their language, and now wanted to throw him overboard. But, he was saved from that fate by his captor.
Alanya had been captivated by the human just as he had been captivated by her. She ordered him into the brig, as the captain was unconscious. She questioned the human, learning his language, and of course fell in love with him before long. The Elves finally saw land, and met to decide what to do. The catain had long since awakened, and ordered Alanya to take the human to land and scout for signs of life for several months and execute the human. She obyed half of her orders, taking the human with her and staying for several months, but not killing her new lover. Eventually, a child was born, a boy who they never had time to name.
The Elves had grown impatient with waiting for Alanya, and it was unfortunate that the couple had stayed on the beaches rather than moving inland. The elves discovered the child, and killed the human, casting his body into the sea. Alanya was killed more ceremoniously, and even buried though branded as a traitor to their race. The child was seen as an abomination by some, and a curiosity by others of the elves. A vote was cast, the child was spared, and came with them as they explored further inland.
Alanoth grew up with the elves, never knowing exactly what he was or who his parents were. He lived through the war between the Elves and the dragons with no name, showing promise as both a strong and agile warrior, and a gifted spellcaster. No name was given to him until he met his first dragon by accident, then he kept that name as both a title and a name for the remainder of his life until now.
He had been traveling with a company of elves to their new home, when part of the cliff road beneath him gave way, sending him tumbling to the bottom of a valley. When he awoke, a marvelous saphire and emerald dragon stood over him, sniffing at him. Once again, being a curiosity had saved his life, and also made him a new friend. The dragon had lain in the valley for several days, a wound deep in its left wing which had crippled it. Out of a compassion that overrode what he had been told about dragons, Alanoth healed the dragon with magic, and the dragon thanked him by helping him out of the valley. When they reached the top of the valley, a band of Urgals attacked them from behind. Alanoth slew the Urgals easily with help from the dragon, and the clamor drew the company of elves that Alanoth had been seperated from to their location. The dragon fled, giving its new friend a name in farewell: Alanoth.
He bore the name with pride, and helped towards the Elves seeking peace with the dragons. Eventually, peace was achieved, and many dragons began calling Alanoth by the title given him. Alanoth and the dragon, who's name was Kasamir, stayed close friends and were instumental in the creation of the Riders. The never were bonded, but decided to remain close friends and an example to all Riders how their relationship with their dragons should be. They creatively found means of solving peace disputes, as well as using magic while flying together.
When the humans arrived in Alagaesia, Alanoth did not learn of it until near the close of the war with the Riders because he was halfway across Alagaesia. Once again, he and Kasamir helped bring peace to Alagaesia, though on a more low key level. Alanoth showed compassion to the humans, as they seemed so similar to him, healing those who were left dying away from battlefields. Alanoth and Kasamir's kindness helped bring about the end indirectly, and they even convinced the Riders to allow the humans to have the possibility of becoming Riders.
Alanoth and Kasamir lived on alongside the Riders as the only known friends who were not bonded together, greatly respected for their power and wisdom combined with a long history of experience in fighting and magic use. During this time, Alanoth began to invent creative spells for himself, which allowed him to use magic more fluently during combat. When Galbatorix and the Forsworn began their betrayal, Alanoth and Kasamir saw the potential for disaster before most did, and fought alongside Glaedr and Oromis to protect the eggs and Eldunari buried in the Vault of Souls. In anger for the losses at Doru Araeba, Alanoth and Kasamir sought revenge against the Forsworn, following in Brom and Saphira's example and leaving the safety of Ellesmera.
Kasamir died at Morzan's hand, and Alanoth barely escaped while Brom went on to avenge Saphira. Kasamir's Eldunari was taken by Galbatorix, and Alanoth lived in exile, traveling across Alagaesia as he plotted his revenge and the retrieval of Kasamir's Eldunari from Galbatorix. When the Varden arose and soon showed that they had Dragon Riders with them, Alanoth tried to remain an indirect helper of the Varden, mysteriously coming and going to watch and teach the new Riders.
Recently, Alanoth avoided the Varden as they grew bolder, attacking the Empire at the Battle of the Burning Plains. When the Varden won a narrow victory, Alanoth knew his time of hiding from Galbatorix's knowledge was over. He followed the Varden's campaign at a distance, planning to appear and assist the Varden if necessary during the siege of Belatona.
