Personality:
Ahrun is gruff and reserved, and is often seen as unusually quiet when compared to his brethren. He is a man of few words, and is often rather blunt when it comes to conversation. His kinsmen and the warriors under him generally give him a wide berth when in camp, but defer to him in many matters because of his wisdom. Though uneducated in the conventional sense, most people who meet Ahrun recognize his cunning and worldly knowledge.
When in battle, Ahrun seems different from the quiet giant that he normally appears to be. He becomes a furious, roaring, snarling dervish as battle-lust takes him. Those who know him realize that Ahrun struggles with this inner fire nearly all of the time. Ahrun struggles to maintain order at all times.
Appearance:
While Ahrun is larger than most humans, like all Urgals are, he is not large enough to be considered a Kull, though his horns are massive compared to other Urgals of similar stature to himself. Ahrun is thick and muscular, with grey skin, yellow eyes, and long white hair. His age shows on his face in the form of deep lines.
Ahrun’s horns and face are adorned with golden jewelry, and he wears strong steel armor on his shoulders that is painted blood-red and strapped across his chest with studded leather. His gloves are made of studded leather as well. On his lower half, Ahrun wears heavy cloth trousers and a war-skirt made of leather and chainmail, covered by a crimson sash.
Likes: Warfare, Running, Drinking, Story-telling, Eating.
Dislikes: Horses, Magic, Kull, When people complain, Weakness in his soldiers and tribe, Humans.
Strengths: Incredibly talented warrior, Primal cunning, Talent for command and order seldom seen in Urgals, Self Control.
Weakness: Size that could be exploited, Lack of Magic, Does not wear armor in most places.
Family:
Tribe Andaruk
Mazdur (Father)
Andlak (Mother)
Not-So-Brief History:
Born to Mazdur and Andlak of tribe Andaruk, Ahrun was a small child by Urgal standards. Considered a sickly runt, Ahrun was allowed to live because of the devastated numbers of tribe Andaruk at the time. The tribe had recently been raided by both Urgals and Human hunting parties and nearly wiped out.
As most Urgals are, Ahrun was trained to fight and hunt. He learned the history of his people and his tribe. However, he was never fully accepted by the others of the same age as him. Ahrun was small and reserved, and was not seen to benefit the future of the tribe. He was marginalized and written off. The Kull were highly prized, and considered the future of Tribe Andaruk. All of this created a seething resentment of Kull in Ahrun’s mind, and a desire to be the best that he could be.
In every task that was assigned to him, Ahrun set out to prove that he was just as competent as his Kull counterparts, if not more suited for certain duties around the village. When his horns began to grow, Ahrun’s blood grew hot as he burned with desire to be respected as an adult of his tribe. When the young rams were sent to hunt to prove their worth, Ahrun set his sights high.
Most Urgals hunted smaller game such as deer or goats, while some of the more ambitions Kull hunted boar or even bears. Ahrun knew that if he were to gain respect with his small stature, he would have to do better. Devising a clever plan, Ahrun went deep into the caves of the mountain. Through guile and cunning, the young ram lured out a Fanghur and crushed it under a boulder. He then slit its throat with his knife, claiming the kill as his own. Ahrun took its wings and teeth with him back to the village and was met with awe.
Ahrun’s growth proved to close the physical gap between him and his peers, and he attained a relatively moderate physical stature. However, his prowess and tenacity as a warrior were unmatched within his tribe, and when they uprooted themselves to campaign, Ahrun was chosen as Nar, above even the fiercest Kull.
The campaigns of the Andaruk tribe became almost legendary, as they either destroyed or subjugated any group of Urgals or Humans unlucky enough to come in contact with them. Word quickly spread along the spine of Ahrun the Clan-eater and the destruction he and his clan wrought. However, times were changing.
The mountains of the spine became increasingly empty. The main rival of the Andaruk tribe, lead by Nar Garhzvog, had disappeared, as well as many of the lesser tribes. Many months later, word traveled to Ahrun after the battle of Farthen Dur that Galbatorix, who had once tried to destroy the Urgralgra, had been enslaving them. Angered by this, Ahrun led his tribe out of the mountains and to war; to join the efforts of the Varden.
