Family: Unknown (He was raised by the people who were desperate for a warrior to protect them. His family died before he was a year old)
History: Link was born in a small corner of the Du Weldenvarden fringe, where the Urgals and Razac frequently visited. His life was supposed to be a calm life with the family that he never knew, since his parents were killed by a shade named Ganondorf. So Link was sent off to the closest outpost before the shade and his troops could discover that he had been born and was still breathing the air that had been forced out of his father and then his mother after she made sure her son had escaped the harm. When Link arrived in the perimeter of the outpost, three archers jumped out of the trees and foliage to figure out why a newborn child had just arrived in their home without being accompanied by a parent. As they neared the horse that had taken the baby Link to his safety, the horse started and neighed in terror.
The guards helped the horse calm down and then they scooped the bundle that was Link off of the brown equestrian's back. With careful movements, the lead archer examined the child and discovered that it was a male elfling that had arrived in their care. On the blankets that covered Link was a blood stain in the shape of a handprint, which notified the archers of an enemy that was near them. So the lead archer took Link up into the outpost and put him to sleep next to the coals that were flickering with heat but no flames.
That night, Link was cared for by the archers and their wives so that he might survive and shine some light onto the reason for why he had been orphaned at such a young age. Three people surrounded the newborn, caring for him, at all times. Yet they still hadn't thought of a name for the child. When the lead archer was sitting there thinking about how the child was their only link to the mystery, he started calling the baby Link. That was the name that stuck with them.
Three years passed with the outpost taking care of the child Link and helping him learn. The three year old Link had started learning how to guard his mind and was constantly walking around singing about some mysterious shadow that he had seen when he was young. Link was always singing about the death of his parents with the innocence of a child, yet the archers never underestimated the words. Finally they realized that what their new addition to the group was talking about. A meeting was drawn together and the archers discussed what would happen. The decision was that they would train Link in the art of the bow and they would help him learn how to fight and climb and scale any obstacle that got in his way.
Link grew into a young boy who was now ten and already proficient in climbing trees and shooting large objects with a bow. Yet he still wasn't sure why his friends were constantly telling him to train harder and never give up. And as he grew up he started allowing his hair to grow longer and he would wander the forest and look for any signs of danger or other people. Link always went back and helped prepare meals that were necessary to be made. And he grew stronger. Link started to scare the archers when suddenly he would disappear and they would hear the sounds of a wolf pup howling and yipping near their outpost. Many times an archer would go out and fear they would find Link's dead body lying on the ground in a pool of blood. Yet they would arrive and see Link playing with sticks or with small animals such as rabbits or squirrels.
Link grew into a young adult of the age of seventeen and he had been using swords to fight. He had even received his first blade and bow a few years before that. And still he pondered on why he had never seen his parents and why he was always training with the weapons that the archers gave him. It wasn't like he had been displeased with the way that they were raising him, he just wasn't sure why they did all of these things. So Link continued to fight and train and learn the ways to sneak around in the fashion that many archers had to learn. Soon Link had surpassed even his greatest mentor and was always teaching them how to fight and move and shoot.
At the age of twenty, Link discovered that he was able to transform back into the age that he had been when he started to learn how to climb and shoot. He soon tried to master that skill and he spent many a day in his ten year old body. So that the archers never got worried, Link told them that he was able to transform from adult to child and from human to wolf. And then he realized that he was also able to transform into different forms of his adult self. He could go from a woodland elf to being able to walk through firey areas and blend in. Or he could change to look like a sea-faring elf. Sometimes he even changed to be a shadow-elf, a breed of elves that had long ago gone extinct because the city of Ellesmera banned them from mating with any other elves. Yet Link was always content to be a woodland elf.
Soon after that, Link was running through the woods and found the spot where his parents had been killed. He halted and looked around wondering why the surroundings seemed familiar, as if from a dream that he always experienced. Then the shade Ganondorf appeared and chased after Link, so Link turned into his shadow-elf form and slipped through the shadows until he stumbled upon an ancient ruins that was in the forest. Link ventured in while changing back to a woodland elf. In the center of the ruined building, Link found a dais that held a large sword that almost looked as if it were meant for great warriors only. The sword was shoved blade-first into the stone of the dais and Link walked up and drew the sword with a bit of effort. His eyes were blinded momentarily and then he adjusted to the light. Link held a blade that was only spoken of in Legends. The Master Sword was in his hands and Link was enthralled by the perfect balance and extension of the blade.
Link grabbed his short sword and bow and quiver of arrows. Then he jumped onto Epona and rode off for the Varden, in hopes of joining them and aiding in the fight against the tyrant king Galbatorix. Link was able to find his way to the city of Belatona with no issues and sightings of any enemies.
