Loki frowned down from his position in the trees. Now really, this was getting way to out of hand. He sighed and hopped off his branch. He landed lightly on his feet, black hair swirling around his head. "Kaala, could you do something about this rabble please. I'm starting to get annoyed." He called, his childish manner not going unnoticed. "We really don't have time to stick around. There's an Empire magician that has already tracked our position from the camp...which wasn't helped, might I add, by the noise you people were making." He calmly strode into camp, his baggy shirt making him look smaller than he actually was.

Emily was a short distance away from the little 'party' the company was having. She hadn't been within hearing distance for long, but from what she had heard there were at least three among them that formally sympathized with the Varden. Emily was too far to see and had used magic to at least give herself the ability to hear what was going on. What she'd heard told here there were 6 people there, but the commotion about Arkantos made her think there were 5. Considering the circumstances she figured reconnaissance would be prudent, and it was, rushing in likely would have cost herself and Amathysia their lives. Emily grinned to herself, "I told you we should listen in first," she whispered to Amathysia through mindspeak.
Amathysia was close, but farther than Emily from the company ahead of her. Just get the prophetess or seer or whatever she is and lets get out of here. We're strong, but theres no way we can take on even that elven rider alone without mixing the rest of them in,[/color] Amathysia whispered back through mindspeak. From what she and Emily had heard most if not all could pick up on those able to speak with their minds, this being the case it wasn't quite safe to speak on a normal level through their minds. Even with how careful they had been and with how much Emily had masked her power she had still been detected by that Werecat.
"I'm not up to dying today, or anytime soon... Oh and shes actually a dragon rider Amathysia." Emily corrected. Amathysia's chest rumbled in her very dragon-like version of a sigh. She decided to ignore Emily, Be careful, since we have this disguise I'd like to not have to come and rescue you and then end up getting chased. And don't forget, your only supposed to be a magician, so nothing fancy. Emily's smile widened, "Don't forget that normally I'd be reminding you of that." Amathysia let out another grumble, but remained silent.

Linnea struggled vainly for a moment against the large dragon's claws holding her down, then suddenly stopped, a flash of clarity shining on her face.
"Silly me...I've been thinking like a human!" She furrowed her brow for a moment, and with the heave of mass that knows it's not supposed to be doing whatever's going on now, she flopped the dragon on his back. Linnea got up, but her arms were shaking. Even a dark elf would find moving something that big a challenge. She closed her erzatz eyes and breathed deeply, letting the life of the plants around her flow into the replica Menoa Tree and into herself, blighting the area around for several hundred yards. She exhaled and dusted herself off, looking much happier. A slim blade of hardened air appeared in her hand, and she dodged by the elven rider and the half-elf with ease and grace, grabbing the human seer by the waist and levitating Arkantos' sword back into its sheath. The aquamarine dragon squeaked in shock, but a quick mental jab quieted it immediately. She hefted the prophetess onto her shoulders and gagged her with magic, making sure to forcefully block off her memory of the ancient language so that she wouldn't be a problem. The dragon, Caranthor ambled rapidly onto Verin's back and clung there firmly, but gently, as Linnea backed away by leaps and bounds to gain a better vantage point against both Rhaxta and the elf.

Really? Hrm...well then...uhm...I guess...I could have her sink into the ground then, as opposed to using magic to temporalily reverse the local gravity around a dragon shaped object. Point taken.

Kaala's only warning was Mirror's reptilian hiss. She sprang towards the elf only to let out a curse as the ground beneath the dark elf fell away and melted back around her. She slowly backed off, keeping the human and the half elf in sight.
Linnea appeared a few moments later, sucking the life from the plants and springing for the girl.
"Give. Me. The Seer!" She forcefully stated, embueing her words with her magic. She strode forward towards the other elf and stopped short. "I won't give you a second chance. If you don't give her to me, then I will have no choice but to kill you." Her head snapped in the other direction however when Mirror let out a vicious roar.
"An Empire Rider! We have to get her away. We can't let Galbatorix have her!" He growled into her mind, sniffing the air violently to scent the other dragon. "Go!"
Kaala cursed again and pulled her other rapier from her belt. "Get her out of her. The other with her. Meet me south, towards the Surda border. Wait for me there." With that she lept into Mirror's saddle and they took off scouring the area for the rider. Mirror spotted her before she did.
"There!" With a sharp dive they were after them. Kaala sent a sharp mental probe towards the female rider as they sped towards them. Hopefully the rider wouldn't have time to react...

(Hope no one minds if I jump in. Both meanings) Vedrit, sitting atop Sonya, wasn't very worried about being shot at. Sonya, flying at a casual speed, would be able to dodge arrows and/or other projectiles. Vedrit was about to say something when Sonya pointed out a battle. "Not on the ground, but in the air." she said "Keep your distance. We don't know who, or what, is involved." he said, forming mental barriers incase someone, that could, decided to remove him.
As they flew closer, he neither prepared bow nor sword for battle. He didn't want to make himself a target before he decided who to aid.
Such were the times, when conflict was not between one side or the other, but a great multitude of factions, groups and organizations. One had to be careful, or one may attack ones own allies.

For a few moments things seemed to calm; Linnea had been pinned beneath the shimmering dragon, the prophet with her hatchling, and Rhax, the tribute to the Menoa against her back and the still bemusing feeling of it's life in the back of her mind. Her green eyes were on the slim were cat as he announced the imminent arrival of an Empire magician, then everything went wrong..
Rhax stood there, after a somewhat herculean display of magic and strength, the dark elf had freed herself and snatched the seer. The elven rider had gone, her time and concentration devoted to the intrusion of the other rider. Standing there, facing Linnea, Rhax left the sword at her side untouched and focused on the dark elf. Even she knew that Linnea's move in being freed from the dragons clutches weakened her, so at least her skill in magic wasn't such a daunting factor now, but she didn't want to start something she had little hope in. Placing barriers around her mind to protect herself, Rhax approached her.''You aught to drop her. What use would she be to you, anyway? Having only twenty-four hours...well, probably twenty-three, now.'' Rhax spoke, raising an eyebrow. Her fingers lingered on the leather pommel of the stolen sword, half the reason was because Rhax had that irritating need to fiddle with something constantly, more because she may need it very soon, should she have to delay Linnea.

A comotion broke out signaled it seemed by the large dragon. Amathysia tensed, Something is not right... Be on your guard.[/i] "Don't worry I am," Emily replied. One of them telling the others to go toward the Surda border had put Emily on edge.
Emily closed her eyes for a moment and could feel the adrenaline pump through her veins and her heart rate pick up the slightest bit. Her senses kicked in a little stronger to compensate for her eyes being closed. She could smell the invidual sickly sweet scents of decomposition and the various mosses growing on the surrounding trees. She could hear a faint thump. thump. thump. thump. It was a similar sound Emily felt. She opened her eyes and could see a flash of light reflect off of something...
Emily felt a stab of pain into her mind and felt Amathysia recoil a bit from the residual shock. Emily immediately threw barriers around her mind to protect from further mental assault and shot back a stab of her own. She turned around and took off for Amathysia who was simultaneously speeding toward her. The second they reached each other Emily leapt into the saddle and threw a bolt of energy toward the opposing rider.

Mirror found the other dragon easily by scenting her. Kaala braced herself against the incoming mental probe and rebounded it back upon the other rider. Mirror pulled up sharply from his dive, scrabling wildly to get a purchase on the other dragons hide. Although he had the advantage of size against the smaller dragon, who was without a doubt female, she was lithe, and much better suited to moving through the trees. "We won't be able to battle well here. We have to find a way to take this to the sky."
Kaala easily agreed with him and began warding herself and Mirror. No doubt this rider had been trained by the King. Kaala wasn't about to make the mistake of underestimating an empire agent again. She quickly slashed at the other rider as she came in range and then mentally told Mirror to take off. Even if the dragon was skilled, there was no way she would be able to match Mirror in the sky.

Linnea allowed herself a smile and raised a single perfectly sculpted eyebrow in incredulity at Rhaxta's weak threat. Effortlessly, she back flipped out of reach of any weak attack Rhax was capable of launching. Verin was still stunned by the Compulsion spell that was gently influencing her newly exposed mind, and Caranthor, poor thing, was holding on with a mixture of stubbornness and devoted loyalty to his Rider.
"You think you are one to stop me, half-breed? I posses one of the most powerful non-Rider magicians of this Age, not to mention my own formidable powers, and you seek to best me in single combat? That traitor elf and her pathetic servant can't aid you now; they're too busy fighting off that inquisitive Empire Rider I lured here with all of these magical effusions. My victory is all but absolute. And you know what else? What if I place a little...suggestion, in Arkantos' mind when he comes to? After all, a beautiful girl, a Rider no less, doesn't just come along every day, and it's been sooo long for him. I should know. And no one will be there to- wait...what are you doing?! Stop it, you fool! We had a deal!", She mocked Rhax, but suddenly her image wavered, and the ring on her finger glowed an angry, unnatural color. She screamed as her personality was forcibly removed from Arkantos' body. With much of her energy being expended, Linnea proved vulnerable to Arkantos' attack, and he settled back into his body with a hum of contented power. Looking at his left shoulder, he noticed the prone Seer and his face visibly reddened at the situation he found himself in.
Caranthor, noticing the change in his Rider's captors' appearance and scent, immediately became hostile and bit Arkantos on the shoulder, drawing blood and causing him to release Verin with a small cry of pain. Caranthor squeaked in triumph and made a mighty leap down to Verin's stunned body.
Arkantos grimaced and healed his wound with a string of words in the ancient language, grabbing his sword from Verin's grasp. He dispassionately observed the growing battle around them, and instantly decided which of his priorities came first. He strode to the remains of the campfire, smiling at Rhaxta on the way with a look of an older brother who has returned from a long and difficult journey. Grabbing his clothing and armor, he settled back into them with a weary grin. He threw his saddlebags into a shadowy fold of roots of a bizarre homage to the Menoa Tree. He approached Rhaxta and smiled again, this time in relief.
"I'm...glad you're safe, Rhaxta. I'm sorry you had to see that. Linnea's gotten more and more unpredictable. I promise she won't escape again to disturb our lessons. By the way, I couldn't help but notice we've got a battle royal on our hands. If you want to fight, you'll need to gain warmage training. And the best way to do that is a mind connection with another warmage. That way, each one can augment each other's knowledge and skill levels. Naturally, this will be the first magical battle against Riders in which I'm not trying to kill you or get you out of the way, so just take what spells you need from my mind and use them at will. Be careful, though. Just because you're using one of my spells will not mean your power is infinite. Know your limits! I promise we'll learn something a little more interesting to you after we get the Nine Levels of the Frozen Hells out of here.", Arkantos addressed Rhaxta in a businesslike, mentoring tone.

Vedrit watched as a dragon burst from the trees, obviously running. "Are we sure we want to be in this?" he asked Sonya, who made no reply, but kept her eyes on the trees, waiting for the pursuing dragon. "We must find out what sides fight here." she said, flying a bit closer. Vedrit checked the mental barriers around his and Sonyas minds, but he, too, wanted to know if there were friends below, but, at that point, wasn't willing to risk of reading emotions. "Be careful." he mumbles as Sonya slowly nears the other dragon

Rhaxta forced herself to ignore the torrent of action in the sky above, the sound of battle raging above them. Listening the elf mocking her, Rhax grinned as one clear thought kept her immune to the scorn. ''Now, at least I have my own body rather than scrounging off others like some kind of parasite,'' she said, not without venom, her green eyes flashing with amusement as a grin played about her lips. As the elf continued, Rhax felt something; something angry and hot twisting in her chest, an ugly heat running up her neck like fire and leaving such a fowl taste in her mouth that it forced her to set her jaw. 'Was that jealousy?' .. Rhax was tempted to fuel it, but as she thought this Linnea began to scream and the idea was cast aside.
Wincing, Rhax closed her eyes as the piercing sound bore into her ears. Opening her eyes again, Rhax gawked as in her place stood Arkantos.
Rhax watched him wander by, still slightly dumbstruck by him overcoming Linnea. As soon as he reached the dead fire Rhax snapped out of it.
''Now, why did you not do that before? I thought you were trapped!'' Rhax snapped, the irritation and worry evident in her usually calm, melodious tones. Closing her eyes, Rhax forced herself to calm from the initial shock, then she let a little smile play about her lips, as she stood on the tips of her toes and gently brushed her nose along Arkantos' chin in an odd nuzzling gesture. ''I'm glad you're safe too.''
Tossing her red hair back over her shoulders, Rhax blew at the fringe that evaded being moved out of her face before staring at Ark, her sheer green eyes holding him there as she speculated him. ''This is obviously a bad time to ask, but I want to understand why on earth that mad elf happens to share your body'' Rhax stated, her eyes snatching a look at the ring - now an alarming green one again- before looking to the sky. ''Maybe later....wha- hey! I'm no where near strong enough to use that sort of magic!'' Rhax said, a frown of doubt on her face. Raising a brow Rhax scoped around, looking in vain for a bow and arrows, or any kind of missile that might prove useful in assisting should she need to.

Arkantos' face turned an amusing color of red once more at Rhaxta's tactile contact. His heart was pounding after just a touch from her, and he was struggling to keep his self control, not to mention his dignity, intact.
"Uhm...yes, well, of course. I should have realized that earlier. However, there is something I know you can accomplish, with just a minimal expenditure of energy. Now, let's just talk about Linnea later, and focus on getting this fledgeling Rider to safety, not to mention ourselves. Join with my mind and repeat after me...Stenr Riesa! Brisingr! Jierda!" Arkantos explained, stretching out his hands and intoning in the ancient language. At his command, several boulders the size of a man's head or larger flew out of the ground, only to be launched at a rapid velocity and have the air around them burst into flame. Once they were within range of the fighting dragons, they shattered, and delivered an apocalyptic rain of flaming shards of stone upon them. He turned and smiled at Rhaxta, as clouds, an unnatural red, began to swirl above them, painting everything the shade of blood. He bowed and brushed his lips upon her hand, and mentally soothed Caranthor and picked up Verin once more, who by now was feeling thoroughly annoyed by the constant up and down action of her person, as the spell used to stun her had failed when Linnea was removed from power.

Emily blocked the blow and felt slightly pusehd back while Amathysia scrambled away from the much larger dragon. "We'll have to fend her off, we can't fight her for too long, they're too strong for us right now," Emily said. Amathysia grunted her agreement and took off. Amathysia was not very old and Emily didn't think that she'd be able to stand toe-to-toe with the average elf and win, not to mention fighting an elvish rider. She knew she was in a very tight spot one that could quite likely be fatal.
Amathysia gained altitude swiftly and Emily focused on the rider, though she sensed something, or someone, powerful nearby and she was sure that it wasn't any of the elf rider's companions. Amathysia pulled left and Emily threw up a ward against fire. A few seconds later a shower of flaming stones shot through the air toward her. "Skolir Stenr!" Emily cried. The small stones bounced against the shield and Emily felt a little energy slip away from her as the now small rocks fell away harmlessly.
"We need to get out of here, go!" she yelled at Amathysia, with luck the Elvish rider wouldn't follow, but no battle had even begun to take place so she would have plenty of energy to expend on a chase.

Rhax tried to hide the grin on her face when she saw Ark turn red after she'd nuzzled him, though she wasn't sure if she did it well. Clearing her throat she focused her green eyes to the sky she listened to his instructions.
''Stenr Riesa! Brisingr! Jierda!"
Rhax blinked in confusion. She swore she'd heard those words before. Maybe not the exact words, but some similar - yet the memory was faint- she couldn't quite grasp how they were familiar. Some long-forgotten memory.. Rhax found it surprising she didn't remember them, considering the spectacular affects of Arkantos' uttering.
A stark contrast was set between the exaggerated green of her eyes through the slick blood-red her hair became as the red torrent covered them. Luckily through the blanket of red light, Ark wouldn't likely be able to see Rhax's cheeks turning pink as his lips brushed against her hand. Dumbfounded, Rhax only watched him walk away with the seer before looking back to the commotion above.
Seeing the rider block Ark's volley, Rhax instantly decided to send her own bout right after. Taking a deep breath Rhax opened her mind, finding the curious power a little easier than she had expected- for a human.
(As far as she knew, anyway.)
Clearing her throat Rhax shouted; her words cutting through the air like they had physical presence.
''Stenr Riesa!''
Arkantos had managed to lift rocks the size of his head, Rhax ventured for the same feat, finding it easier than she had originally anticipated. Feeling the weight sap her strength- as you would feel the weight on your arm- she flung them.
''Brisingr!''
A shimmering blaze of white cut through the red, and Rhax exclaimed- remembering everyones magic worked differently.
'' Jierda!"
The small rocks shattered, the white suddenly expanding in a haze of little specks, like stars- only fist-sized- and bombarded the riders. Rhax looked away- the difference from the dark red to sharp white light making her vision go strange. Wondering if that was even normal in the standards of magic, Rhax turned and took off after Arkantos, stooping to pick up her sword as she quickly caught up with him.
[Meep, other thread soon mebbe? should Rhax and Ark escape. ]

[Boop. Perhaps. Maybe somewhere in Surda, or the southern Empire? It'll have to be several weeks later (game-time wise), although maybe we can lower it down to days...It all depends on whether Arkantos can manage the gateway spell without needing to draw on Linnea's innate understanding of arcane relativity. *big brain pulse*]
