Raylborn sat at the head of a large, wooden table. His arms were crossed and he waited for his final council member to come in. He looked around at the other members, he nodded to them. He would finally get to discuss the rumors running around Alagaesia. He reached over to his mug of mead and lifted it to his lips. He took two big gulps, then set the mug back down on the table. “What is taking them so long...” He muttered somewhat impatiently. He stared at the two, closed oak doors awaiting someone to burst through the door.

Andvari pushed open the doors before her cofidently. Forest green skirts swishing around her boots she turned and closed the doors before turning back to the table. She didn't apoligise for her lateness as she walked to the empty chair that was her place, it wasn't her fault that one of the younger ones under her charge needed his arm bandaged. Drawing back one of the stout wooden chairs she sat with grace it took her years to master and leaned back casual-like. Vari let her mind focus on the task at hand as she blocked out the thousand other jobs that needed done, so much work was required to run the Varden! She finally met Raylborn's eyes, "What is it today then?" She asked with the faintest tinge of wearness in her voice. "Fights between the races, the magicians causing chaos...?" She supplied some of disasters that were being barely held back from actually happening. She took a moment to relax herself, it seemed ages since she had actually got to sit.

"Your late." Raylborn said as Andvari entered. He drummed his fingers on the table as she took her seat gracefully. "No bother, let us get onto the main subject. As you should all know by now, we have a new rider amongst our ranks. It is no surprise seeing as we have collected those eggs. But that is not that main topic. There are said to be a new group of Shades." Murmurs among the council went on for a second and stopped abruptly and Raylborn raised a hand. "I am not sure if they are true, but why shouldn't we believe so. Much has happened these past years, so this is just as likely." He said wearily.

"Then lets get down to it, what do we have to use against them?" She said bluntly. A meeting would be more profitable this way than it would be if they danced around the problem. "I confess I'm not all that knowlagable on the finer points of shade defence and what-not, but what do we need to use? Force or magic...both?" She almost hoped that they would need armed force, the dwarves were restless again, and thus was she. She shifted unconciously in her seat and crossed her ankles.

Raylborn shook his head slightly. "Shade's are one of the impossible to fight. Only a few, in the history of Alagaesia, have managed to kill a Shade. And if they come as a group...we will have a difficult time. If they side with the Empire this could present quite the problem. Our armies are being prepared, as they have been for years. The Empire is still stronger...bigger. It will be years before we stand a chance against the whole empire." Raylborn scowled at the thought, the Varden were not strong enough! They needed more power and more force.

"Eragon managed to do it didn't he?" She said with a little bit of hope. It sure sounded dire. "And even if they do side with the Empire, they are still against us." She folded her hands on the table and looked at the faces before her. She paused a moment in thought. She glanced At Raylborn intenty, "is there any possibillity of getting them to fight eachother?" Andvari had to admit it would be a stroke of luck if it had even a slim chance.

"Not only are we impossible to fight, we are impossible to resist." a voice called out, rather smoothly. The Shade leaned against the doorframe casually, arms crossed. She was dressed entirely in black, with a longsword hanging from the belt on her waist. The Shade surveyed the man behind the desk, looking him over thourougly, a sly grin on her pale face.
"I'm almost hurt that you didnt invite me to your little meeting." she said, placing a hand on her heart in mock grief.

Raylborn's blood went cold as he saw the Shade standing by the door, his breath sped up and a bead of sweat rolled down his face. He quickly jumped up from his sword, unsheathing his blade and he stared at the shade. The black blade shined in the light from a window. "What do you want Shade?" He asked nervously. What else was he to do? Run and attack it, highly doubtful. He would surely die, especially without his shield. He looked to see the other council members, stone in their seats. Their faces were pale as they stared at the Shade.

Andvari was an odd sort, when she was scared she tended to be more bold, a bluff you could call it. And now she realized that if this shade was as dangerous as they made him out to be she could do nothing...or could she? Scooting her chair back from the table she stood and placed her hands on her hips and gave the shade a disapprovig glare. "Your one to talk of invites, did you never learn your manners? Interrupting is rude." She shifted her weight bracing herself for an attack. Obviously he was here for a reason, and Vari had a feeling it wasn't for killing. Killing leaders would creat chaos, but also a united force against the shades.

The grin on her face spread as she glanced at the man's blade. "Funny, I get the feeling you dont want me here." She uncrossed her arms and made her way closer to the center of the room.
The Shades boots scuffed the floor as she walked. Her eyes still fixed upon the man, she clasped her hands behind her back. "As to what I want? Well. Is that a question you want me to answer in front of this...", she waved her hand lazily towards the other figures in the room.

"Answer away, whatever I can hear they can hear." He growled to the Shade, his eyes narrowed as he focused on the Shade moving closer to them. "Just answer the damn question. What do you want? And Andvari's right, it's rude to interrupt. Learn some manners you filthy..." He stopped and thought for a second. No need to anger the Shade, it could be instant death to either himself or a council member. There was no way of calling for help or Eragon...it was just them and the blasted Shade. He didn’t take his eyes off her, just stared and waited. ((OOC: Tav the shades a lady ))

A mirthless laugh escaped the Shade's lips. "Oooh, I should not interrupt. Manners, you say. Pardon me, but perhaps you are the one in need of learning manners. I merely came here to speak to you, and you greet me with an unsheathed sword."
She narrowed her eyes at the man but made no attempt at her own sword. It truly was the last thing on her mind. Instead, she was content with the banter they exchanged. The Shade wondered how long it would last until the man would attempt to order her out of his office.

"Ah but the sword is merely a precaution. And if you came to speak with me, speak now. This is as good a time as any other, and I am listening." Raylborn didn't lower his sword, he would expect her to attack if he did throw away his guard. He glanced to see Andvari still standing with her hands on her hips and had to work to hold in a chuckle. She didn’t even have the slightest bit of protection at the moment, and she was being so brave. What a crazy woman.

Andvari caught Raylborn's glance out of the corner of her eye. 'he probably think's I'm a loon.' She thought to herself. But then as always her logic kicked in; 'if a shade was so powerful it could just kill us all, wouldn't it have done something by now? Vari knew Raylborn and his sword would put up a fight but she knew she couldn't. 'All I have is a bluff and gosh darnit I'm gonna use it.' She didn't want to die, no, she wasn't stupid. But she knew that when ever that time came for her to go, it'd have to be kicking and biting.
Tha half-dwarf arranged her chair seated herself again to face their visitor; folding her hands on her lap she regarded her with a polite and attentive face. "Be as it is we have made our 'greeting' and you yours. Now, what matter is it you wish to have the council's advice on?" It took all her control not to keep a smirk off of her face.

Vavrin simply swept a lock of hair from her eyes and spoke again, casually. "I couldn't help but overhear you were discussing my kind. So naturally, I thought I would listen in. Its not a problem is it?" she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, and smiled sweetly.
Surely if other Shades were being discussed, she would want to hear it. She hadnt seen another one of her kind in many years. Vavrin's mind wandered, but she still held her steely gaze upon the man.

Raylborn smiled at Andvari’s comment. “Yes, what advice from the council do you require? Speak away, as I’ve said many a time before, were all listening.” He smirked slightly and waited a second before lowering his sword the slightest bit.
“And if you say you came here to talk, saying you were just listening in does not correspond. Your lying of course, so tell the truth.” He said, his brow furrowing slightly and his lips went from a smirk to a frown. He wanted to know the Shade’s real business here, not all this nonsense she was talking on about.

Vavrin stifled a yawn with the back of her hand. All this talk was boring her. If she wasnt going to glean any information from these people, then she certainly didnt want to waste anymore time. She was growing annoyed.
"I do not seek advise from your lousy council. I seek information on the whereabouts of the other Shades. Either you know, or you do not." The grin from her face faded into a look of coldness. Dancing around topic wasnt holding her interest any longer.

Andvari was tempted to bargain with the shade, but soon vanquished that bad idea. They were evil, and even if they did know where the shades were a group was worse. She leaned back in her chair, it creaked slightly under her. "Why would you want to know?" She asked finally setting on a question that could keep The dark clothed lady talking. She may have came for information but could end up droppig a tid bit to the Varden in her attempt. She glanced at Raylborn hoping he would pick up her idea and play along. They had information sources, but only trickles could get to them safely, every bit of intelligence could be vital for them to survive the Empire's wrath.

“Yes, why would you want to know? You are, by looking at you, one of the most powerful Shade I have ever laid eyes upon. You could crush the others. You don’t need them or their whereabouts.” He said, his eyes shifting slightly to look at Andvari. Hopefully he was doing what she wanted, if he had screwed this up he could pay in the end. The shade could take this as a compliment, though she could also just think it’s a plot to get away from real answers and become enraged. Either way, he was prepared to do what was necessary.

Vavrin's eyes left the man and she turned to face the woman in the chair. It was a simple enough question that she had asked. But the answer in itself was complex. She paused for a moment. Curious for her to pose such a question. The woman was trying to get her to talk. Interesting.
She focused her deep red eyes upon the man again. For a brief moment, she was taken aback. Either he was complimenting her, or playing a mind game. Maybe a bit of both? Anger intermingled with amusement. She rested her hand upon the hilt of her pale sword. "You're bold, arent you. Though I daresay what I need isnt up to you to decide."
