Andvari was intent on a bit of time to herself as she made her way down the wide hall at a brisk pace that sent her skirt swishing around her ankles. It was so diffrent in these places made for men, doorknobs were higher than she remembered, doors were so high and narrow, but overall the places were just so big!...Her mental rant was cut short by the sight of a dark slight figure just ahead of her as she turned the corner. It was too familiar to be anyone else but Vavrinec.

The Shade was standing alone in hallway, as if waiting for someone unknown. It hadnt been all that long since she had left Raylborn's office. Her face was expressionless and her body was still. Upon looking at her, it seemed as if she wasnt even breathing.
Vavrin suddenly became aware of another presense approaching. She lifted her chin to gaze upon a woman. She recognized her from the incident in the office. The Shade did not speak, she just stared at her as she turned the corner.

"What are you still doing here?" Vari asked really quite curious and stopping in her tracks. 'How is she going to get out of here without getting killed, or at least in a dozen fights?'
Overall, she was quite interesting, even if she was evil...but what made her evil? She looked at the shade, power could be used for good just as it could for evil. People always said she was a softy, always believing there was good in people...

Vavrin tilted her head to the side as she surveyed the woman before her. "Hello again," she said plainly. "It's not everyday that I get to wander these halls." She clasped her hands behind her back, wondering how come the woman had not gone home yet.
It did seem to her that everyone was in a rush to get home. From the few people she spied walking briskly and speaking in hushed tones, it seemed as if everybody had become aware of the previous incident in the office. It didnt matter to her what anybody thought. It was kind of amusing, really.

"You mean your sneeking and spying?" Andvari translated crossing her arms. She wasn't about to let an enemy go snooping in the Varden's headquarters, that was just foolish.
"Are you on a mission here for someone, or are you here for your own schemes?" She asked standing her ground. Motives could change behavior, she might be tougher if here for her own reasons. Vari didn't see how a shade could be very loyal to any master.

Vavrin raised an eyebrow. "Sneaking and spying? Why are you so interested in my, how you put it, "mission"... I daresay that is of no consequence to you."
The Shade shifted her weight from one foot to the other, smiling slightly. The woman who stood before her had a very inquisitve mind. Vavrin blinked lazily as she waited for another round of questions to be tossed at her.

"But is it of consequence to the Varden?", She asked. "And there in lies the connection to why it's my interest." She said with true dwarven stubborness.
Amazingly Vavrinec seemed so....passive...it made Vari feel like she was going to suddenly spring on her as a surprise, unconciosly she stood with her feet wider set so she was more stable. Vavrinec was so foward in the office only minutes before and now she was casually talking with a woman in the hallway? What an absurd breed these shades were!

Vavrin's eyes flickered. "It is a personal matter of which I choose not to discuss. Certainly not with you." She pushed aside her long bangs and made a noise of impatience. "I don't even know your name, and I see no reason as to why I should disclose any information."
Vavrin's mind wandered a bit. She thought of many things, and of her main reason for being there in the first place. Galbatorix flashed momentarily, but she quickly pushed it aside. He was the last thing she wanted to think of.

"My name is Andvari." She said making that excuse a useless one. "And unless you can convince me of a decent reason for your presence here you must leave. Do you really think we are so foolish to let you wander around here?" She shook her head setting her dark curls bouncing around her shoulders.

"Andvari," she spoke, in a quiet but stern tone, "as I recall I was not wandering. I also know that I am not welcome here. However, since you are persistant, maybe you can help me with something. Perhaps even make my job easier and get me out of here quicker." Vavrinec was all too willing to leave, but she was not going without a key piece of information.
Vavrin rested her shoulder on the wall. There was nobody passing by anymore, it had fell very quiet. No footsteps could be heard, and that told her that it was later in the evening than she had guessed.

"Depends." Vari said admitting to herself that she did wish the shade would get on her way, it was too dangerous. "But I may also refuse...What is your offer?" She asked shrewdly watching her enemy.
She apperared more comfortable now, probably because everyone else had retreated to their quarters for a meal and or bed.
'great, if she decides to kill me I'm a goner.' Andvari thought sarcasticly to herself, it wasn't comforting. Hopefully this could go peacefully...hopefully...

"Answer me one question and I leave here peacefully." Vavrin leaned in closer as she went on to further explain her request.
"I have been led to believe that after Durza..." Vavrin's eyes flickered blindly behind her eyelids and her expression was unreadable. "...I am the only Shade that has made their existence quite clear to the Varden."
"Answer me this, Andvari: Wouldnt it have been easier if the council had just admitted they knew nothing of Shade activity, and that all the supposed rumours were in fact, mere rumors?", with this Vavrin's voice dropped to a whisper. "If you know something... now is the time to reveal it to me."

Andvari had to hold back a smile; so she, or the Empire, was worried the Varden was catching on the their little plans? Vari answered honestly. "You are the only shade who has made their existance quite clear to the Varden." It was the truth, the Varden was majorly common-folk and they knew nothing of Raylborn's findings, and she knew little herself.
She put her hands on her hips impatiently. "You said one question. I answered it, so now you need to get out of here." She narrowed her eyes slightly at the shade. "If I knew the secret to eternal life, why would I tell the likes of you?" She said with a tinge of impatience and anger in her voice. 'She thinks herself all persuasive and smooth. She's not getting me.' Vari reassured herself.

Vavrin was silent for a moment. Nothing like a simple rumour to get folks in a tailspin. With that, the Shade fiddled with one of her rings. "If I really wanted the secret to eternal life that badly, I would just extract it from your mind. Now theres something to think about."
Vavrin straightened herself and took a step back. "I'll be on my way, now. That is, unless you have something non-political you want to discuss, whatever that would be," she said, her voice ladden with sarcasm.

Vari thought that the shade was bluffing, 'she can't get it from my mind...can she?' either way she was too far into this to back out, she just hoped Vavrinec would actually leave instead of changing her mind.
She almost sighed with relief as Varin made to leave. "Perhaps next time, I'll have some tea to offer you then." She smiled back with equal sarcasm. This whole polite yet almost insulting thing had become a trend between them it seemed. Andvari smoothed her skirt and took another look around, still nobody around.

The Shade smiled thinly at Andvari's wit, and stepped aside to leave. "Until then," she replied, and as she passed the woman, she reached out with her mind, just barely enough to brush the woman's consciousness like a whisp of smoke.
Vavrin's boots scuffed the ground beneath her, she turned the corner, and was gone from sight.

She turned to watch Vavrin as she passed but thats all she remembered...
Andvari opened her eyes to find herself on the cool floor of the hallway, and quite confused too. She stood and brushed the dust off of her skirt, grateful for a distraction of thinking upon what just happened, or worse, what could have happened.
Hastily she made her ways to her room as was her original intention. All this magic, elves, dragons, now shades. She shook her head, 'how did I ever get tangled in this mess?' She asked herself as she headed out of the building and into the night.
