Finding the Varden

"Enter." The word came through the door. Eragon pushed open the door, and stepped into Raylborns office. A desk stood in the center of the room, as if waiting for somone. Raylborn sat on the other side, hands folded on the desktop.

"Hello, I bring some who wish to speak to you." Eragon greeted.


So he cares for more than his own plesure? He certainly the impression that he did not, or perhaps our young freinds do not understand each other as well as I thought. Saphira said to Forest. She was enjoying conversing with her own kind, she had only talked this extensivly with Glaedr, for she had spoken little to Draith. Then she realized somthing; she was still the only female. She would still be the only one that could bring the dragons back, as far as she could tell.

[Vardy]

'Yes. They do' she replied to Jex 'We seem to have arrived at Lord Raylborn's office.'
She followed Eragon and Pike into the room. Sitting behind a lrage-ish desk was Lord Raylborn.
'He doesn't seem very scary...'
'Maybe he's not. Maybe he is. Wait until he speaks'

Jex walked into Raylborn's office with a smile on his face he had finally had a moment to take in everything that was going on. His training had began, the new riders and everything else that had happened. He looked at Lord Raylborn there was a sheathed sword on his desk.

“Hello Lord Raylborn.”

Jex said after he had stopped thinking. Draith looked back and forth at Saphira and Forest. Green and blue flashing in front of his face. Jex contacted Draith again. Don’t let me forget to ask about a sword and armor. Draith answered. Ok I will try.

Yes, people skills is something that Pike does not have. He speaks his thoughts before he thinks, Forest said, wathcing as Pike walked through the door. I can only imagine what he may say inside there...

Pike followed Eragon and walked through the door. He looked around and walked over to the wall, looking at some of the things on there. "So what are we doing here?" he asked, not looking at the others. "I'm afraid we're going to have to come to a decision as to what we're doing pretty soon. I feel we're going to be pretty busy."

Raylborn looked around the room, four riders and somewhere four dragons. It would be a treat to see so many of their kind at one place. But the main problem was who they were aligned with, he knew two out of the four. Jex and Eragon were loyal to him, though the other two he did not know. He stood up and put a smile on, looking around at the new riders. "Let me introduce myself, I am Lord Raylborn, leader of the Varden. It is an honor to be with you all, and I welcome you to Aberon with open arms. Hopefully you are all with me in this fight against the Empire." He said, and nodded. Now it was time for the two new riders to introduce themselves.

Pike continued looking at the wall, eyeing a map of Alagaësia. He pressed his hand against it and ran his finger across the boarder. "I am Pike of Uden, he said. His hand dropped from the map and he turned to the Lord. "I fight against the Empire, but I feel I cannot join your men and become a warrior for the Varden."

Pike stared down at the Lord's desk and he could still feel Forest's eyes staring at him, even from behind the wall. "I cannot join your men, but I can fight against the Empire when needed. I fight for all the people, not just yours, so I will see to it that there be no unneccesary bloodshed."

((OOC:Actually Rayl, our dragons were supposed to be downstairs, exept for perhaps Eridor.))


As do I. Eragon thought, hearing Pikes reply. "The best way to stop unessecary bloodshead would be to bring this to a speedy end." Eragon argued. "You can't stay nutral forever, Pike. I know from expeirence." Eragon fininished. He wanted Pike on his side, he didn't want him inbetween, even if he showed support to the Varden. It is too dangorous(Sp?). He decided, remembering Murtagh. If he could get Pike swear not to harm the Varden or its members, it may work.

Jex looked at Eragon as he began to speak. He feels strongly about him joining the Varden. I wonder what made him like that. I know almost nothing about the other riders. Jex said to himself. Draith interrupted his thought. Whatever it was it must have been horrible to make him want one that shows no liking to the empire untrustworthy. We do not know a lot about there past but we will know about their future. Jex almost decided to say something but felt that the tension was to strong. He decided he would wait to ask about a weapon and armor before speaking

"Even the speedy will have it's unneccessary battles," Pike said, looking down at his hand. "These soldiers fight for what they believe is right, for their family, or because the Empire made them. I will have none of their blood on my hands. Those who are Galbatorix's right hand man are... fair game."

Spoken like a hunter, Forest said, prodding into his mine. Pike ignored the comment and looked up at Eragon.

"What is it that you fear, rider?" he asked, staring down at him. "That I will fall into the hands of Galbatorix? What will joining the Varden accomplish? Galbatroix takes what he wants and will force me to join him if I am Varden or not. In this war, you two stand and fight against eachother, and you two fight eachother face to face, but you cannot see to the side of you. If I stand to face him, they will see me clear as day, but if I stand to the side, the side of the people, he will see nothing. And he will see nothing until the people strike."

[Vardy]

((Ok. Sure. I'll do that. Yes. Detail is my friend Rayl. Yeah. All the dragons are downstairs cept Eri))
"I am Lirael of Ceunon. I was told i should come here if I were to join the Varden, which i have decided to do." she said "They do not fight for what they believe in Pike. They fight because it is what they are paid to do. True, we shoudl not kill, nor should we stoop to Galbatorix's level. But what other way is there? We have to stop this while we can. So that the ones who come after us can live in peace and without threat. So that no more will have to die for the smae cause because we did not act when we should have. If you are not noticed, your cause will not get noticed, nor will your opinion."
'Well put Lira'
'You really think so Eri?'
'I know so Lira. But you should be careful of what you say. We do not yet know these people. You should be cautious'
'I'll try Eri. I'll try'
'There is no try Lira. You either do or do not. Will, or won't'

Jex was surprised by how quickly Lira had made her choice. Maybe that will get Pike to join. Jex said to Draith.

"They are right Pike. The Varden fights for the people too. After Galbatorix is defeated there will be less bloodshed and that is what the Varden are trying to do. You will need allies eventually."

Jex said hoping to persuade Pike to join the Varden again. I don’t think he is ready to make a decision yet but I’m sure when he is it will be the Varden. Forest seems to push him that way and I don’t think he likes the Empire.

Pike turned his head and looked at the map in silence. He eyed the boarder of the Empire. "Have you ever been in Therinsford?" he asked, staring at the point in the map. "They would fight for the Empire. They live in happiness and prosperity. And ignorance above all else."

He turned his head and stared back at the others. "But that's not the point I'm making. I will be your ally in a battle, but I prefer not to be ruled under the Varden's foot. Favors and jobs I can do, but I prefer my freedom, and above all else, I prefer to stay under Galbatorix's radar. Joining the Varden is like standing in his throne room and waving in his face." Pike sighed and stared up at the ceiling, avoiding their eyes. "This sounds like the coward's way out, eh? When the time comes, I will fight and I will fight against the Empire. You need no worries. But this is not what I came here for. I came to find some old rider.

Sheesh, do you ever think before you speak? Respect your elders, Forest shouted at him. Pike smiled to himself.

"I'd like to train with you, Eragon Shadeslayer, and your master."

[Ragond]

"Pike, how do you think I avioided his cluches. Yes I hid for a time, but I was never safe. It wasn't untill I joined the Varden that I was truly safe. Many serve the Empire unwillingly, or do not understand what is truly going on. The ones that are vounteers have been told that the Varden is trying to steal their lands and their lives, but that is not true. Would you have the lies to continue, and the evil run like a river?" Eragon resoned. "Galbitorix is vile, he cares not for his people, only some far feched vision of power and a great kingdom. He will sacrifice anything to acheive it, or so I have been lead to beleave."

Perhaps you should let Pike go, he needs time to think. You of all people should know that getting sucked into the Varden's scheaming is not somthing to do lightly. I am suprised that Lirael decided so quickly. Saphira advised.

"We discovered our eggs in two different situations, Eragon," Pike said, turning his head to look at the spot Forest would be standing. "I found Forest on an island from an unknown egg." He turned his head slightly to where Saphira would have been. "But your dragon was hatched from an Empire egg stolen from the hands of Galbatorix. He would have hunted you to the ends of the Alagaësia if he had to, but you do not hunt something you never knew existed."

Pike closed his eyes and spoke with Forest quickly. He stood there in silence for a moment until Forest spoke. We will fight for the Varden, but not under it. We will take your side, but not your name. And we agree that Galbatorix will be stopped, but we prefer to work in our own means. This is his... our decision. I hope you accept it.

[Ragond]

There Eragon, isn't that what you would have wanted for yourself so long ago. To fight the Empire, but not to serve any paticuar faction. Saphira said to Eragon.

I'm not so sure Saphira, I would rather he set himself to our cause, but I will abide by his wishes. Eragon answered Saphira, then he said out loud, and with his mind so that Forest could hear, "I accept your desicion, at least for the time being."

“Good plan that works for me!”

Jex said even though he figured his opinion on the topic didn’t matter. He could tell that both Pike and Eragon had cooled off a little. You were right in away. Jex said to Draith. You forget I am right most of the time. Draith said jokingly. Draith then turned to Forest. Smart choice on yours and you rider. Draith said to the great green dragon. He must have been much older than Draith. Jex then turned to look at Raylborn. He was still waiting for the discussion to end so he could ask Raylborn some questions for himself.

Forest smiled and looked down at Draith. Thank you, little one, as I am sure your decision was wise.

"Good enough, I suppose," Pike said, laughing a little to himself. He looked over at the Varden leader. "I hope this is good enough for you too. But once again, I'd like to ask about this elder rider that lives with the elves."

We know that as we are not part of the Varden, we may not be able to qualify for these... privileges, but we would like to become stronger,[/color] Forest said, interrupting Pike. This will be benefactory to your cause for the stronger we are, the better your side will fight during the upcoming war, that is, if you trust us to be on your side, Lord Raylborn

((OOC: How does Pike know about Oromis.))

IC: Eragon's mind jumped at the mention of an elder rider. How does he know of Oromis? Eragon wondered.

Saphira heard his thoughts, and responded. Why don't you ask him? She suggsted.

Eragon did just that. "How do you know of an elder rider?" He couldn't mention Oromis's name even if he tried. The promise he made when he had first met the elf held his tounge.

Pike looked at Eragon oddly. "Should I not know?" he asked. He thought about it for a second and shook his head. "Uh... some animals told me. A group of birds noticed a big dragon going into the forest, though I dunno what animal doesn't notice that. But they said that they, or you rather, were probably going to get training from some old dragon."

Pike's specialty is speaking with animals, Forest explained, though he knows nothing else of magic as he doesn't enjoy learning a new language, so all his concentration went there.

"There is an elder rider! How come no one told me?!"

Jex said getting angry. If you did not know it was for good reason. How many times most I tell you patience. Now just calm down a bit Jex? Draith said trying to calm Jex with his mind. I am a Varden rider just like Eragon and Lira I have a right to know.

“I am a Varden rider why wasn’t I told when I gave you my and Draith’s loyalty?”

Jex asked Draith had not done the best job in calming him. Calm yourself Jex. I will not say this again! Jex closed his mind from Draith. Maybe Draith could handle not being told things of such importance but Jex could not
