History: Jade does not know much of his own history, but only what his parents have told him his adopted parents found him in a small basket one day at the doors of their barn in a small town in Surda as a baby. They raised him up until he was twelve years old, teaching him about the world around him, how to survive and take care of himself. On his thirteenth birthday he got a bow which he practiced with every day outside after his chores. He had everything a boy could have wanted, food, shelter, loving parents. His father even told him stories at night about the Dragon Riders and how they protected Alagaesia's people, guardians of the land. He dreamed of flying with a dragon, having a companion that would be his teacher and friend. He was happy, life was perfect. But then one day that was all taken from him.
One night, when the moon was full over the town, there was a cry. A shade had begun attacking the village. Jade shot up out of bed and ran to the window. The shade rode a shadowy beast resembling a dragon. He watched in horror as it burned his village, his home, and everyone he had grown to love. He watched until it was too late, the dragon was coming straight for their farm. His father came up behind him, throwing him away from the window as the beast ripped his father out of the barn and consumed him whole. He screamed and ran downstairs just as the upper level was consumed in flame. He was knocked and pinned down by a strip of wood that had collapsed on him. His mother cried out as the doors to the barn were blasted away in front of them. The beast descended in front of the entrance with the Shade cackling wickedly on its back. His mother stood as a shield between the dragon and Jade as he struggled to tear free of the wood, the barn crumbling around them. He could only cry out and watch with terror as the dragon spewed a jet of red flame at her, watching her become ashes. The shade only laughed and showed no mercy, having his nightmare continue with torturing him, burning the piece of wood that held him there before leaving Jade to burn.
As he lay there, watching the flame slowly creep toward him from the left, he stared into the eyes of that shade, remembering that face, the one that he will hunt for the rest of his miserable life. As the shade left with his beast, he payed there throughout the night, burning and screaming in agony as the left side of his body was consumed by the destruction. Only by miracle, did the rest of the barn finally cave in on top of him before he was able to be killed by the fire, knocking him out and extinguishing the flame.
When morning came, he laid there, weeping. After a few hours of helplessly wriggling out of the wreckage, he was able to break free, standing a bloody mess. But he did not cry, for he was out of tears. He looked out at the scene around him, smoke rising in all directions as he stepped out. His entire town, his barn, family, and most of his arm, taken from him, lying as ashes. He was the only survivor, the rest lost to time. His eyes reddened with pain and suffering, he went into the woods for shelter, armed with only his bow he could salvage. To this day, Jade has loved in the wilderness, secluded from civilization on his own, surviving, uneducated of the world around him and the events of the riders that take place. Alone. He was only thirteen years old.
Anything extra: Jade has the capability to be a Dragon Rider, but he doesn't start out as one. He, like all riders, has the potential for magic, but it must be taught. I'd rather someone else roleplay as a dragon because its what I'm used to, and I find it more fun that way, if possible. He doesn't know when he was born or even the name of his town because it was too small and unimportant to be out on any map, so it's fictional. I'd also like to say that I take roleplaying differently than others. It's very personal to me so this character actually resembles myself very strongly. His words will be my words and my actions, feelings, thoughts. He will be a mirror image to me in the world of Alagaesia, with a few minor differences. Roleplaying to me is more than telling a story, it's a way I'm able to express myself in a completely new way, a way I haven't been able to before. It has taught me life lessons, taught me more about myself, and how to respond in certain situations. It's a tool for me, and I hope you see it as a tool someday as well.
