But in the ancient Forest, something completely unforeseen was to happen. A vision came to Eragon late one night, a true vision that called him to the Stone of Broken Eggs. He spoke to the stone and the shadows, and there a wall of rock crumbled away to reveal the ancient hiding place of full twenty dragon eggs.
The elves immediately planned to take the precious eggs to Aberon, before Galbatorix discovered their existence. However, on the journey south, the elven guards unexpectedly met a battalion of Empire soldiers. A blood battle ensued, and the Empire captured thirteen of the eggs before the Varden's cavalry arrived to aid the elves.
That was not all, though. The stolen eggs were being taken to Uru'baen when a strange and fateful event took place. In the dead of night a mysterious werecat took six of the eggs out from the under the noses of a dozen guards, and disappeared into the wilderness. These eggs would later return to the stage of war--as the bonded dragons of unallied Riders.
The war is looming now, threatening as a dark cloud over Alagaësia. Soon a new generation of Riders will be chosen, and battles of sorcery and dragonfire will be unleashed upon the land, bringing both horror and glory. The Varden, finding new cause and new strength, will clash again with the Empire, whose might and desire to wipe all rebels from the land has only increased. This is the new story of the warring realm, and the story of the people who gave their heart and their blood, their story no matter what their allegiance. This is the story of the humans, the elves, the dwarves, the Shades, the dragons, and the Riders, the soldiers and the spies, the magicians and the wanderers, the nobility and the common folk, all who walk the war-torn and beautiful land.
This is Du Fyrn wiol Alagaësia.
