Isilee opened the eyes she had pressed shut and looked sidelong at him, baffled. "Why do so much for my family? We are out of harm's way." She paused, still watching him with the uncertainty of not understanding him yet, then spoke again. "But I do thank you. You've done more for us than I could have expected." She leaned down to lightly kiss the top of Iva's head. The little girl had been ready to sleep until elves began to appear, and then all of a sudden her weariness vanished, evaporating like mist on the sand. She and the rest of her children all stared about in wonder, their mother with caution, both eager to get off their weary horses and explore and shy of the people they had never seen before.

Brenton nodded and dismounted as the other elves appeared around them with curiosity in their gazes. He raised his hands and soon the low murmuring died down until he could concentrate. Brothers and sisters, people of Ellesmera, this family is here to start a new life away from oppression of the Empire. I am here to tell you that they will all be treated fairly and equally with no distrust or I shall be forced to remind you I myself am half human. Welcome Isilee and her children please. Brenton looked at the elves and then turned to help Isilee down from her saddle.

As Brenton reached to assist her down from the saddle she didn't pull away from him, as she would have if he'd been her husband, or any man other than her father. Few men had earned even a modicum of trust in her eyes, but in the last month of travel this king had earned a little bit of it. "They have no reason to trust us yet," she murmured once her feet touched the ground. A trusted man's word was well enough, but to be honest they barely spoke most of the time; how could he know her or her children to not be miscreants just leeching off of him for their own petty gain? She took her children down from the saddle and kept Yesley up in her arms, wrapped in her cloak to keep the both of them warmer. "Where will we stay?" she asked then, still warily watching those that loosely surrounded them. They didn't appear threatening, but they were threatening to her in only that they were unknown.

They trust me and I trust you to not give me a reason otherwise. As for where you'll stay, this house is large enough and open. Follow me and I'll show it to you. As Brenton spoke he walked toward the house and muttered a single word that opened the door. Slowly he walked in and toward the stairs. Three stories with seven bedrooms, two wash rooms, a pantry, a living space, and an office space. Each room had the same word to open the door and soon Brenton was back at the bottom floor opening the pantry and pulling a trap door up. This house connects to a cottage on the cliffs through this tunnel. If someone attacks then go to that cottage and into the valley. At the bottom is a training ground where no one can enter if they mean harm.

Isilee had never lived in anything but a castle, but the lovely home before her was all she thought she'd ever need for herself again. It had a trellis full of winter ivy climbing up to the second story on one side, and hibernating plants all around the modest yard, which she imagined she could fill with flowers if she could just find someone to ask for them. She imagined she'd have to find some occupation to ply herself at, but if the elves had magic, did they really need a lace-maker? "Do you expect that someday it will be?" she found herself asking, eyeing the trap door with concern even despite the beauty of the house. With her permission the children scattered to explore the rest of the charming home. "It's very beautiful, Brenton, thank you." She reached out to him and grasped his wrist, smiling. "I could hardly have imagined better."
