A deep scowl etched itself through her face at his question. He had a point, not that she'd ever admit it. She was good at taking care of babies, she'd done it before. But she could barely feed and clothe herself, and just because it was summer now didn't mean it would stay that way forever. "I can make your coin stretch a bit," she finally muttered. She hated scowling this much. While perhaps not a naturally cheery person, at least she wasn't usually this irritable. And being irate like this was exhausting. She just wanted to go back to the seamstress's shop and sew a bit and think a bit. But here they were making her hungrier with their food and making her wonder what she was going to do with this baby except give him away to somehow who probably wouldn't care about him.
Beryl untucked her own bread and cheese--or rather the stuff that William had given her. She ate it grain by grain, knowing that it lasted longer in her belly that way, and since none of these fools looked liable to steal it she didn't have to stuff it down fast anyway.

"A bit." William conceded. But the underlying meaning meant 'And what after?'
Instead william just stretched slightly and walked over to the window, Opening it fair ease since he wasn't a...Emaciated child...He glanced around, Then back to his men. A soft frown on his face.
"We will have to return to the battle soon..." William muttered.

Beryl sank down deeper into her corner, feeling black and gray inside. Like there were handfuls of sand collecting in there. She wondered how she'd ever get that sort of heavy feeling out. "Be nice," she muttered, tucking her face and her baby into her knees.
"Fine. You go out and get your mean selves shot or hacked or burned." Her eyes flicked half-guiltily to the half-dead man on the floor. "I'll watch this fellow but I can't do much to defend him."

William eyed the child for a moment, Thoughts passing through his brain before he shook his head at her offer to watch jones.
"Nay...I will simply dispatch two of my slightly injured men to act as stretcher bearers..." William then glanced over at his men as he thought of who to send. "George! Marcus!" He called and the men quickly stood up and walked over. William then proceed to tell them what they needed to do. They nodded and then returned to their meals.
William then glanced back at the girl and the baby and sighed. "Would you go with them? The camp is safe, We have food. And there are plenty of kind people their who would watch the baby for you so you could take a nap." William offered.

Beryl watched him with wide, worried eyes. Go to the enemy's camp? Unthinkable. But considering the amount of killing that was going on in her city, and the fact that her city looked to be losing, it might actually be safer, like he said. No one was attacking them. "But what would I do there?" she asked anxiously. Beryl had never been a layabout, she'd always had useful tasks to set herself to to earn some bit of money. Soldiers weren't rich, so who would pay her then? She didn't know how to fix armor or sharpen swords. She'd probably be utterly useless, and to them she'd be the enemy's daughter. An outsider.

"What everyone else is doing...Wait for this war to be over, One way or another." William said simply. It was all he could say at that moment.

Beryl sighed. She hated waiting. It was a terrible occupation in all aspects. "Sounds boring," she muttered. She'd always been happier with work to do, whether or not she necessarily enjoyed the work itself. She enjoyed the activity. But letting her mind wander too far could lead to dangerous thoughts, such as why the miller across the quarter suddenly had gold in his purse instead of coppers and the rare, exotic silver, and where his daughter had gone just before he got those golds.
{I'm having a hard time coming up with replies. Not much to go on and in general it's a long thread.}

((Yeah the thread is quite long, Perhaps make another one for after the battle or something.))
William nodded, Conceding the point. "But it is safe." He added simply. And with more confidence than he truly had, After All what was stopping the empire from swarming from the city and slaughtering those in the camp if they failed...But no...They couldn't fail.
