Race: Human
Side: Empire (not by choice)
Birthplace: Near Gil’Ead
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Birthday: Spring
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Brown
Weight: 110 lbs
Height: 5'3"
Magic User: No
Preferred Weapon(s): Knife (she usually only carries one when she is worried for her safety)
Appearance:
Alia is pale skinned, as much from her years living in the Empire as from her northern heritage. Her hair is dark brown, and she usually wears it in a loose bun. She only lets it down in private, and when she does it reaches down to her waist. Her eyes are sky blue. Alia is a little short, standing five feet and three inches, and has a healthy figure. She possesses extensive tattoos from her time living as a slave among the nomads of the Haderac Desert, and despite having pierced ears she never wears earrings. Alia dresses very conservatively, covering her entire body to hide the tattoos as well as to be modest. She generally wears long dresses and covers her hair after the style of Haderac nomad women. This helps her keep a low profile as she carries out her duties, as the last thing she would wish would be to attract attention.
Tattoos: Alia’s tattoos mark her hands, circle around her arms, and decorate her breast, stomach, and back before snaking down her legs to her feet. The only parts of her tattoos that people usually see are the parts on her hands, which consist of geometric flowers on her palms. Her tattoos are deep red. Alia goes to great lengths to hide them, as they mark her out as foreign and can lead to her receiving unwanted attention.
Personality:
Alia believes she is a servant at heart. Being a servant is not just chores and duties to her, she looks at it in a far more abstract way. She feels that it is her duty to help, heal, and protect. She has had good experiences as a slave as well as bad, and these good experiences have colored her view significantly. Alia is also content in her heart. She does not wish for freedom like some slaves do. Indeed, the idea of freedom actually frightens her, as she has nowhere to go if she was suddenly freed. The only desire Alia keeps is the dream of falling in love, marrying, and having children one day. She worries that she will never find a man who would marry her, especially considering her status as a servant and slave.
Alia is very, very diligent about her work, and once she gets started on a task its difficult to tear her from it. She often finds simple chores calming, relaxing, and in some cases even enjoyable. When she is alone she will sing while she works, singing anything from the traditional songs the nomads taught her to the lullabies and poems she learned while in the service of the Ansen family.
Alia knows little of elves, urgals and dragons, besides the legends she has heard throughout her life. She has never even seen any of these creatures in her life, and does not want to, as she believes that they are fearsome, dangerous, and would likely eat her. Alia does not trust magic or sorcerers, although she will never say this to a sorcerer's face for fear of angering the hideously powerful being. However, she has seen healers work miracles, and respects them greatly.
Alia is illiterate, a fact that she has tried to rectify in secret. At the moment, she can read some words, but with great difficulty. She fully believes the superstitions common among humans, although her belief is a mix of desert traditions and Imperial superstition.

History:
Alia was born under another name which she has forgotten, to parents she no longer remembers. She has been told that when she was six years old her parents sold her into slavery, to the nomadic clan Najuul of the Haderac desert. The clan gave her a new name, Alia. She grew up with them, acting as a servant and a helper. While she was not treated as well as the other children, she was treated well enough, and soon followed the ways of the nomads as if she had been born to the desert. She was well accepted within the clan, and by the time she was sixteen she had learned many skills, increasing her value immensely. It was around this time that Alia received her tattoos. Alia had grown to love the nomads, and was completely shocked when she was traded for silver.
Her new master, the merchant named Ansen, put her to work as a maidservant in his household. The three years she spent with the merchant were some of the happiest in her life, once she acclimated to Imperial culture. Her constant diligence was recognized and she was given many responsibilities and privileges in the household. She became a personal attendant to the mistress of the house, and was trusted to be a nursemaid to the children. However, her master fell into debt with the Empire when he became unable to pay taxes, and as punishment he was arrested and all his property was seized. The last she knew, Mistress Ansen and her children had been thrown out onto the street, and her former master had been taken away to a labor camp. Alia, being property of the family, was seized along with everything else. While she was distraught over the treatment of the Ansens, she feared greatly what would happen to her. The was briefly examined and interviewed by the bureaucrat who had robbed Master Ansen, who calculated her value before locking her away for safe keeping. She spent days waiting in fear to for the bureaucrat to decide her fate.
Alia was sent south bearing a message. The bureaucrat who had seized the property had apparently embezzled her for himself and then sent her to an ally of his, General Lord Bror Artax of the Imperial Army. Alia found that after she delivered the letter that she was in fact a gift, a sweetener for some deal between the two corrupt men. Perhaps even a bribe. Alia was immediately put to work, and she has now served the General for a year, and has lived in Imperial Army Camps for almost the entire time. The violence with which slaves are controlled terrifies her, and she performs her duties as flawlessly as possible to avoid her master’s arbitrary judgments. She has been an assistant to healers of the Imperial wounded, and she has grown to hate the Varden as she has seen the damage they have caused. As she sees it, they started the war and keep it alive. If it wasn't for them the empire would not be reduced to the corrupt, militaristic, monolithic edifice that it is today. At the moment her current goal is to stay alive, escape notice, and outlast this horrific war.
Anything extra:
Alia has learned numerous skills during her lifetime of servitude. While she was a slave to the nomads she learned how to identify and navigate the stars and constellations, as well as how to care for the horses and goats the nomads shepherded. She was taught how to sing, and she developed a flair for storytelling as she learned how to recount the clan’s oral history. Alia was also taught how to dance, but she keeps this a close secret. The last thing she wants is to be asked (or worse, commanded) to dance, as she is much too shy for that. While she served as a maidservant in the merchant’s household Alia became practiced at cooking and cleaning, as well as learning how to sew, knit, and weave. She also gained much experience caring for children, as she was the nursemaid for her mistress’s babes. She even helped deliver one of the children, assisting the midwife, and was their wet nurse. Alia memorized a great deal of poetry during her service to the Ansen family, so she could entertain the Mistress and her guests. As a servant to General Artax, Alia has learned a great deal about herbalism and healing, as she has been pressed into helping the healers and apothecaries tend to the steady stream of wounded.
