Mother: Genevieve - Dead (killed)
Father: Rocco - Dead (killed)
Brief History:
Squall on his side has spent his whole life in Surda, as well has his father, but his mother was from the Varden. Squall doesn’t know her well, because the reason she was in Surda at all was that she had fled from her former husband, now seeking shelter somewhere else. She managed to hide here with his father for about two years, by then having Squall, but then the day came when her abusive husband, being an archer of high rank, found her and killed her for having a child with another man. Rocco, Squall’s father, killed the guy, but he never speaks of it. He even buried the two of them. Genevieve, Squall’s mother, was buried up in the Beor Mountains, but he had no feelings for her murderer, thus leaving the earth at the field on which he killed her to embrace him, even in death haunting him for what he did to them.
Squall was merely a year at the time, and cannot remember his mother at all apart from a painting a homeless made for him once Squall found out that he knew her and remebered her perfectly even 8 years later. He had almost no money, but he joined his father one day when he was out hunting, and brought back a horse for the painting man. He had to train it of course, but it turned out to be an art the poor man handled perfectly. Squall used to be amazed by the amount of knowledge this man had swirling around inside that head of his, surely he would be more than able to get a job? He got his answer, and those words stuck with him even though they did not form a quote at all; Where there’s no need, there’s no problem.
A few years later, after Squall getting into the art of swords, he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and becoming a hunter. His father used a bow, but personally he preferred swords because of the extreme power they were able to unleash. He trained with the bow as well, but never got any good. Because of his varied training, he developed physical skills above an average kid at his age some points, for example incredible attack and strenght, but with this and great endurance followed bad speed. His spirit is also a bit weaker, but his agility raised a whole lot, defence with it.
However, at the age of 15, it turned out that his mother’s killer, Rembrandt, had a brother. All this time he had known, but not until this date he had been able to return to them due to him being at Squall’s recent age at that time. When Squall returned from fishing, he found his father dead and the house completely destroyed. Terrified, his eyes fell upon the note laid upon his father’s chest. It simply read; I’ll find you.
With nowhere else to go, he fled, ending up at the Beor Mountains, stumbling across the long lost grave of his mother whose resident had never been revealed by his father. He had told him that she was buried somewhere high above, but Squall had always taken it for being a metaphor, not up in a mountain.
Squall made his home here, close to his mother’s grave, far away from the town and the people to stay safe. Today, Squall still lives there. He’s visited now and then by some local villagers reaching for the top and people passing by telling him stories about the lands afar, but other than that he’s pretty alone, surviving by being a hunter. However, these days, four years after his father’s death, he’s thinking about returning home to Surda again as the rumours of a possible war is spreading.
