((A forewarning; this biography will be butchered from my first and only Inheritance RP character. There will be very few changes, but I hope they aren't too obvious, but I do wish to retain Raethen's character as to what he was. Apologies if this is unnaceptable. By the way, since it has been over a year since I wrote this profile, it may take a bit for me to get reaffiliated with Raethen and get used to his character again, and I'm sure my writing style has changed quite a bit in the time since I created him, hoepfully for the better. Please, bear with me here. Thanks in advance.))
Full Name: Raethen Valique
Other name: N/A
Race:: Human
Side: Empire
Birthplace: Unknown specifically to him; a small village north of Uru'baen.
Age: 26.
Gender: Male
Birthday: Unknown; does not celebrate it.
Physical Description: ((I really hope you guys don't mind I combined this into one section. It was the best thing to do for Raethen, I think.))
Starting with head and heading downward: Raethen has a black, straight but rather shaggy head of hair that carries to about his mid-neck (in back) and the middle of his eyes (in front). His eyes are quite odd; the inside of his iris, around the pupils, is green and it slowly fades outward to the edges of the circle into blue. They always seem occupied and deep in thought, and are only focused when Raethen is being drilled or in other training challenges.
His face (and body) is pale, but not very-much so; his exposure to the sun keeps him from extremely white-skin. He has a long face for a human and a thin chin to match, but neither could compare to an elf's or even an older Shur'tugal. Raethen rarely smiles, and when he does, it’s only a half effort and you can barely detect joy in it. His face looks a bit weathered at times, but most women consider him to be quite handsome.
His body doesn't appear muscular at all when compared to other soldiers, but Raethen is quite strong for a human. His entire body is fairly slim, and he has long legs, even for his height. He prefers to keep himself well-groomed, although he cares almost nothing about what people think of him.
Magic User: No.
Clothing: As is custom for training, Raethen dresses in rough, black leather that contrasts his pale skin ominously. He is told, however, by the casual woman who speaks with him, that the dark clothes suit him extremely well. In necessary drills, however, he dresses in the customary plate/mail armor uniform issued to him by the Empire.
When he travels to a nearby tavern or other recreational place (which is VERY rare; he is quite devoted to his duties), he wears more casual black leather, accompanied by a generic hooded-cape that was in his father's wardrobe when he died; Raethen never saw his father wear it, and he had an odd impulse to take it at the time, so he did.
Raethen refuses to dress formally at all occasions, excluding things having to do with him superiors; For instance, when he received officer-rank, he wore his finest leathers and a full cloak, but discarded the cloak afterwards when he received his officer's cape. There was nothing particularly interesting or formal about his leather or cloak, but they looked far "nicer" then his usual wear. Raethen really cares nothing about his appearance or clothing, unless it has something to do with his generals or other Imperial leaders. When that subject is present, he becomes quite self-conscious, wearing only his finest clothes.
Preferred Weapon(s): Raethen's arsenal of weapons depends almost entirely on the occasion. However, he always carries (in a sheath) a hand-and-a-half longsword of no particular interest that he dug out of his father's wardrobe along with the cloak mentioned previously, and a long, curved dagger. Raethen prefers light-weight weapons like swords and daggers, as said earlier. He has been trained in maces in axes, but almost never uses them.
When in an open battle-field scenario (Raethen has never been in a full-scale battle yet but has fought in many small groups against other groups, such as bandits) he carries a short-bow and quiver on his back and his sword in his right hand; also, he would normally sport a shield in these battles. When in an alone mission, simply traveling, or in a small group, Raethen issues to himself his sword, but often dual-wields with his dagger. Both blades are slim and quick; when alone, however, they are a last resort, as he uses his long-bow beforehand when fighting.
As for looks: His two blades are matching, with hilts wrapped in easily-gripped black cloth. His sword's hilt is slightly wider than his sword's blade, and has a guard to separate the two sections. The guard runs outward and curls slightly inward, towards the hilt. With his dagger, which was designed mainly for throwing, has a hilt and blade of equal width, and has no guard. It is balanced perfectly, and is of great durability, as with his sword, when compared to other human blades. The craftsmanship on both is good for human blacksmiths, but cannot come close to comparing them with elven or dwarven work. The basic metal is a dull grey, darker on the hilts and hilt guard, and lighter on the blade. His weapons have saved him many times.
Personality: Raethen is very much a loner when it comes to social events; he almost never greets anybody who has not greeted him first. Anyone who does try to speak with him is usually only acknowledged in grunts or small nods. As I said, it seems Raethen is almost always lost in thought. Even beautiful women who attempt to flirt with him receive replies as if they were any unappealing peasant; Raethen seems totally ignorant of those around him, save when training or, as I said, around his superiors.
Much of his withdrawn behavior is a result of his extremely rough childhood, and he often contemplates why fate gifted him with the second chance; the chance that came the day his father was sentenced to death. This is why he takes his soldier-status so seriously; he feels he needs to take full advantage of this "gift" that was his father's death.
However, and only on occasions where these thoughts seem appropriate, Raethen silently questions his emperor's will, mainly when a seemingly innocent person is sentenced to a harsh punishment (often death), or when an obvious overreaction is made on the Empire's part. Raethen often wonders why he follows his master, The Empire, so blindly, but then thinks it would be completely foolish to throw this second chance away just because his king gets a bit angry at times. He has NEVER spoken of these thoughts and never plans on doing so.
Likes/Dislikes: I believe this has been made clear in the other sections, but Raethen is mainly a soldier at heart and despises the normal things in life that distract him from his goals. He tries to be as emotionless as possible and does note enjoy the company of others.
Family: Raethen has no living family he is aware of.
Brief History: Raethen's mother, whose name he never knew (and his father never told him his), met up with a rowdy young man who became Raethen's father. Raethen's mother was, before then, calm and content on being a housewife, was enticed to a life of excitement by the disobedient farm-boy. They soon left their calm village near the northern end of the spine, and traveled south on a much more hardy trip then they had ever expected. They, in time, arrived at Gil'ead, where they rented a home and lived on odd-jobs for a half-year or so. However, soon, Raethen's father took weekly trips to the nearest tavern, where he began making more frequent trips due to an alcoholic addiction. They soon ran out of money due to this habit, and the relationship between them came to a rivalry. They fought constantly, and the conflict became more and more like abuse for Raethen's mother. Soon she was basically a hostage in the home. That all changed when they realized she was pregnant with Raethen. She was basically expelled from the house and cast out to being a beggar, until several months later when she was unhealthy and dirty, she gave birth. A local man found her in an alley and helped her deliver the child. He then brought it to the address Raethen's mother had told him to go to before she died, and gave Raethen's father the infant. Raethen's father would not have taken Raethen, if the local man had not threatened to inform the government.
Since that day, it was a miracle that Raethen lived at all. At the age of two, they moved far south to the farm house north of Uru'baen. His life was filled with only despair and agony, however, as his father thought him only to be a curse of his past. Raised on a life filled with hungry nights, tiring days, endless work, and immortal neglect, Raethen became the man I have described in the previous passages.
To end this quickly and skip the 11 awful years of Raethen's life, his father supposedly killed a soldier when in an Uru'baen tavern, consumed by drunken rage. Sentenced to death, the government went to the man's home and found Raethen, where they shipped him off to Uru'baen to become a soldier.
Anything extra:
Strengths and Weaknesses: Raethen can duel nearly any normal human in a fair fight and win, but is extremely vulnerable to all magics, save a moderate defense against mental raids. He was also made an officer due to his strong ability to boost morale among his division of men. His strengths all revel in his ability to fight and his basic immunity to distractions. He has never gotten close to anybody in his life, leaving him a cold, hard shell of a man. This is also, however, his greatest weakness.
If ever confronted disrespectfully about his awful childhood and lack of any love in his life, he will soon lose his temper and become completely rage-filled; this has only happened once, but he has gotten close other times. The other times the insulter's were smart enough to quit taunting him before he harmed them; the first time wasn't so pretty. An enemy could easily take advantage of this in battle and cause him to become irrational and attack with only brute force. His entire near lack of emotion is a great weakness, as well. Even though it provides immunity to distractions in battle, it leaves him with the fact that he has never cried or laughed in his entire life, as far as he knows. If confronted with this, he could break down to sobbing or unleash all the lost emotions and become one howling miscreant of raw rage.
Skills: Being a very well trained soldier for his age, Raethen is in good physical shape and is ready for most humanly possible tasks. He can swim well and quickly when he must, but has never seen waters bigger than the training pools at his training facility. Raethen fights very well for a human, but could very easily be outmatched by a Shur'tugal, elf, or even most dwarves.
He is familiar with nearly every weapon issued to The Empire's soldiers, but prefers different weapons for different occasions. However, his style seems to be light-weight and slim weapons; he believes agility can outdo raw strength any day. He is very familiar with bows and throwing knives; he has spent much time at the archery ranges practicing both.
As with most of The Empire's well-ranked men, Raethen has been trained to resist all mind-reading magics, but, if confronted with a truly skilled magician, then he would stand barely any chance. Other than that, Raethen knows nigh to nothing about magic; he has never used any form of it and has never received training on it. He was told, however, to always take out a magician in the battle-field first, if the opportunity arises.
Raethen has the ability to ride horses, but rarely ever does, as he does not travel far from Uru'baen. The only times he ever rides horses are in certain drills and when chasing another on a mount.
Being a well-taught soldier, Raethen knows about every skill a foot-soldier knows and more.
Home: Currently residing in the grounds around the palace of Uru'baen, Raethen bunks at the barracks of one of The Empire's infantry sects. He was, however, born/raised in a small farm several miles north of the city of his current abode. His mother died in child-birth, but was very mistreated by his father, who also abused Raethen at young ages. He, however, did nothing to cripple defenseless, innocent Raethen, but made his work schedule overriding, even when Raethen a young child. At Raethen's age of 11, his Father was sentenced to death due to a drunken rage that resulted in killing a soldier; in past times, these drunken rages has resulted in Raethen's mother or Raethen becoming the victim, but his father was out of town at the time.
Raethen was spared and sent to Uru'baen to become a soldier in the Imperial Army. Ever since that age he has been training to understand strategies on a small scale and become an excellent fighter at The Empire's palace grounds.
