Full Name: Arkantos Halimar
Other name: Kastor, Andumi, Rash'agal (These two last names are those that the spirit that inhabits him is referred to as in ancient texts)

Birthplace: Ceunon
Age: 24 (human host)
Gender: Male
Birthday: Summer Solstice
Eyes: Steel Grey, with swirls of gold and blue in them.
Hair: Shoulder-length silver grey, with a tint of white, as well as dark black
Weight: 147
Height: 6'
Magic User: Yes
Clothing: Long black cloak (hooded), olive green and grey plate mail, black boots.
Preferred Weapon(s): Ash spear, longsword, longbow, magic, possibly other weapons, depending on his mood or preference at the time.
Personality: Light, airy, carefree, intelligent, vicious, dark, grim, chivalrous, and polite to a fault, Arkantos smiles often, but always with the sort of smile you see on a large reptile, or perhaps another large carnivore. Enjoys a drink or two. Or three. Or fifty-seven and half a mug of dwarven ale. As can be expected from a Shade, he has a love of battle bordering on the physical. He's always curious about what's going on, so he's hightened his senses to constantly observe whatever he happens to be interested in at the time, whether it's a massive mechanical construct or a simple locket. Also enjoys a large explosion or two.
Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: combat, drinking, a good horse, explosions, immortality, and power
Dislikes: The Empire (it's not that he thinks everyone in the Empire is evil, it's just sort of a job. Plus they really annoy him.), nature-based magics, anyone who wishes to get in his way, and Shades who serve the Empire. He acknowledges their lust for power, but sees the Empire as a waste of good talent and very few opportunities for the acquisition of even more power.
Family: Mother: Finduilas, shieldmaiden (45)
Father: Orome, hunter (46)
Sister, younger: Serenity (14)
Brief History: He was raised in Ceunon and was trained by both his father in stealth and his mother in open combat; he learned magic almost entirely from books and scrolls hidden in a back room in a warehouse in the city. At age 17, he joined the Varden to help protect his sister. He was given a horse, Wingfoot, for his 16th birthday, and cherished it dearly. Sadly, the horse was killed in battle with a Shade long before Arkantos became one himself several years later. He still harbors a deep and abiding hatred for those Shades who willingly serve the King.
At age 12, he went hunting with his friend Barahir, who was killed after stumbling upon a wolves' den. Arkantos slew all of the wolves, but not before Barahir had been torn apart. Because of this, he has the memory and guilt of his friend's death ever present in his mind. The experience also gave him an acute fear of losing others close to him, especially his sister, who went exploring in the forest often with only throwing knives and a short sword to protect herself.
Several years ago he joined the Varden as a sabateur to ambush officers, supply trains, etc. in the Empire. Arkantos rose quickly through the ranks, and eventually gained Jormunder's trust enough to where he was placed in his inner circle of leaders. Also, because of his aptitude with magic, which had already given him a high rank within Du Vrangr Gata, he was given the task of aiding sympathizers within the Empire to flee to Surda and relative safety.
His sister is an undercover recruiting agent as well, and has gathered and helped train a company of fighters in the name of the Varden to recover Yazuac and rebuild it as a Varden foothold in the north. The sucess of her mission is still unknown. His parents have no knowledge of Serenity being in the Varden, but they do know Arkantos is. He briefly turned to the side of the Empire after a run-in with a Rider that left him humiliated, but he renounced his allegiance and swore an oath in the ancient language that bound him once more to the Varden. After officially apologizing, he was reinstated in his position of command, and continued his service to the Varden as a Captain.
Some months later, after an incident involving an ancient ring of immense magical power that harbored the dark personality traits of the elf Linnea, he failed to execute an apprentice of his who had shown unstable personality traits. Unstable in his own right, he left his apprentice, and through the use of an experimental magical spell, transported himself into the underbelly of the palace at Uru^Baen. Finding a large summoning circle, he read the text of a book that he could only understand a portion of the words to, but those he did understand, like "power", "awe-inspiring", and "highly dangerous", only served to increase his eagerness. Unfortunately, as he was a magician, and not a sorcerer, he was unschooled in the precautions that one should take when dealing with very powerful spirits.
Fortunately, he was a willing host for the most part, and instead of completely obliterating his mind, as most Shades did with their hosts, they merged in an odd way, not singularly spirit, but no longer human either. In a way, they are an odd sort of hybrid, despite the fact that the Shade is most definately in control for most, if not all, of the time.
Anything extra: Likes to channel lightning into his spear, has tattoo of the goddess of the hunt on his forearm. Dreams of training with the elves in magic and combat to become even more powerful. It seems that now, that dream will have to be put on hold. When he became a Shade, the first thing the spirit did was to etch a design of thorn-covered vines made of shadow onto the side of his face and even part of his jaw and neck.
