No. He finds magic fascinating, but he's terrified of it at the same time.
Preferred Weapon(s):
Torin is a thief, with one long dagger that is concealed behind his neck. Its an ordinary knife, but has a silver blade. He also has nine smaller knives, about four inches long. One on each ankle, hidden in his boots. Two on each arm, one on the upper, and one on the lower. And three on the inside of his cloak. These are disposable, and easily made.
Personality:
Has amnesia. Torin used to be very optimistic and light hearted. But even at the age of twenty, he has gone cold. Cold to emotions. Cold to pain. Cold to everything. If someone had known Torin before he had turned sucha way, they would be utterly astonished.
Appearance:
Torin is a slender Twenty year old. He stopped growing after he hit Seventeen. His hair is dirty blonde and isn't too long, a little pass his nose. When he is concentrating, he brushes it out of his eyes. He wears black boots that have been with him for years, which his friend, Ardocc, made for him when his old ones caught on fire. Gray, tight-fitting pants or blue slacks. A white open chested shirt or a lavender tunic are also worn by Torin. He wears a brown leather belt and a pair of leather and steel gloves. They help for grip. Sometimes, just for fun, he wears hats he buys at the market. At night, and during assignments, Torin can be seen wearing a dark gray cloak, which hides most of his head, and his entire body. The cloak trails on the floor when he runs. He carries a brown pack that holds some food, a few recipes, a carving knife, and a makeshift pillow. He is strong, but has almost no muscle tone, so most people underestimate him.
Likes:
Torin eats like a pig. Not messy, but alot at one time. He munches throughout the day, but because of a high metabolism, he maintains his figure. He takes full advantage of that, so he likes most food. Because of his like of food, he has become an amateur "Master" Chef. His favorite food would be pickles, with some ale on the side. His favorite color would be purple. He can't live without the thrill of the steal. Loves animals, especially squirrels and rabbits. Books, can't forget his love of books. He has a secret hiding spot for them deep in the Beor Mountains. He makes some hats, but buys most of them.
Dislikes:
He dislikes compulsive liars, but coincidentally, he IS a compulsive liar. He can't stand being alone, but again, coincidentally, he is alone most of the time.
Fears:
Torin is terrified of deep water. He can stand being in the shallows, and taking a bath doesn't bother him. He doesn't know why he is afraid of deep water, because of his amnesia. But what resurfaced the fear was a narrow escape from some bandits. Torin jumped blindly during the night, into a freezing lake, and suffered from a severe case of hypothermia. Luckily, Ardocc, his once good friend, tended to him while he was sick. Torin is scared of using magic, but not afraid of being near it.
Strengths:
Being very light-footed and possessing wonderful acrobatic skills, Torin started his new life working in a traveling circus. He can assess a chest from one glance, traps, lock mechanism, the works. Also is a wonderful swimmer, but never has the chance to show it due to his fear. He is extremely touchy as of late, and his once happy atmosphere is gone.
Weakness:
-Torin is too trusting.
-He is easily hurt and hides his feelings well.
-He can cope with bad things but always rushes through things when something happens emotionally to him.
-Must buy every book he sees.
Family:
He can't remember his biological parents, and he presumes that they died long ago. The one man he respects enough to be his father is Carter, the trapeze master he met during his time during the circus. Once there was a man that he considered his brother, but Torin was betrayed. Nola, an amazing friend, disappeared a few years prior. Torin searches for her, and the "brother".
Not-So-Brief History:
Torin is 20 years old, and only remembers half of his life. At the age of 11, Torin woke up in Teirm with no memory. It was soon clear that he had amnesia. He knew his name and age, but that was it. Wandering the streets of Teirm, he saw a sign for a traveling circus. What he saw there changed his young life. He easily got a job after trying out.
Torin was as surprised as the performers.Torin was introduced to Carter, his new trainer. Carter acted like a father to Torin, and it wouldn't be long until Torin thought of him as one. Torin had great abilities in the acrobatic field, but was still missing some fundamental basics. Carter filled in that hole. Carter also taught Torin how to read and write and Torin quickly grew into the man he is now.
After a few years traveling Alagaesia, Torin set out on his own, collecting books, working for politicians mostly. His first client was a Duke who saw him in the circus, and realized Torin's possible aptitude to steal. Torin's first job was stealing a jade statue. He stole it, but couldn't take his mind off it and after a few months of doing hundreds of assignments, decided to take it back.
He met Ardocc a bit before he took it back, and Ardocc assisted him. Fearing for his life, and for Ardoccs, they fled into the Beor Mountains, mostly because the Duke found Torin and Ardocc and burned down Ardocc's most prized possession. His boat.
During there travels, they met Nola, a feisty woman, who wished to be a sorceress. They quickly became a close-knit family of sorts and explored for years to come. Nola became a sorceress, and kept trying to teach Torin and Ardocc, but they always refused. Torin was afraid that the magic might consume him. Torin bought Ardocc another boat, and Ardocc returned to his island to see his grandfather.
Nola disappeared one night after Ardocc's departure and Torin has been alone since. Upset and lonely, Torin staggered into Tierm, and set up a life for himself as a Tavern worker, in the Green Dragon Tavern. He makes the pickles and cooks the food. He longs for his friends and never stops thinking of them. He hopes one day that Ardocc will return and they can find Nola because Torin gave up hope a few months after she vanished. He now steals at night for the nobility, slowly gaining money to find Ardocc.
One day Ardocc appeared, searching for his boat. Apparently it had been stolen. Torin barely recognized him. And it was likewise for his friend. Slowly, they become reattached. But like all things, it had to come to an end.
Torin and Ardocc formed a small team. For stealing of course. They did pretty well for themselves too. But one night, they were in the middle of an operation, when Ardocc ran off, with Torin's entire fortune. Torin, to say in the least, was in utter shock.
How could this man? This friend turn on him like that? Burning hate flows through his mind even now. Now his only goal in life, his first goal in life, is to see Ardocc dead. When the news of the ships landing in teirm and surda had reached him, he knew that Ardocc would immediately travel to the island that the boats came from, to search around.
Now Torin travels to the island to find his former "brother".
Anything extra:
A grey squirrel follows Torin around sometimes on jobs and around town. Torin decides just to call it squirrel wishing not to get too attached.
