Full Name: Kavran
Other name: "Grim Rider", "Blackheart", "The Hidden Son"
Race:: Human Rider
Side: Neutral
Birthplace: The Spine
Age: 133
Gender: Male
Birthday: February 4
Eyes: Dark brown
Hair: Dark brown, unkempt, shoulder-length
Weight: 195 lbs
Height: 6'7"
Magic User: Yes
Preferred Weapon(s): Freohr (Death)- A pitch-black bastard sword of great size with a dark ruby in the pommel, forged as Kavran's Rider Blade.
Personality:
Kavran is, for lack of a better phrase, the epitome of enigmatic. He is extremely intelligent and wise according to his years. He has seen much, and his life has turned him bitter and cynical, regardless of his companion's influence. On top of that, the man is also known to have an incredibly annoying knack for not losing his patience and thinking with logic rather than emotion. His extended years have turned his mind closer to that of the elves or the dragons, whose mental acuity is renowned. Because he has, almost literally, all the time in the world, Kavran has lost his sense of urgency and of the importance of the moment. However, beneath his facade of complacency lies an icy temper and a thirst for vengeful satisfaction.
One might wonder if Kavran Blackheart truly fulfills his namesake. His history, though extensive and convoluted, has colored his mind as surely as a painter colors his canvas. The betrayal of Galbatorix and his Forsworn made the trusting and amiable young rider into a merciless and distrustful hermit shortly after the Fall. He cares little for anyone or anything- save his dragon, with whom he has spent most of his life. Everything else is a pointless attachment that can rot, for all he cares.
In the rare occasions when Kavran interacts with people, he is said to possess a wit "dry enough to tinder a flame," and carries himself "as one might if they looked upon an anthill whilst garbed in heavy armor." Disdainful of the petty bureaucrats and the squabbling between both sides in the ongoing conflict, Kavran keeps to himself in the Spine, wherein he resides. He hates squabbling and being made to cowtow to politicians, but he also loathes Galbatorix and his accursed Empire. Although he dislikes most everyone, Kavran is not without manners. He is polite to a tee, though his cutting remarks often leave his victim wishing that he had simply cursed them or been rude rather than display his courteous, if painful, disdain.
Appearance: Kavran, like most aged Riders, vaguely resembles a mix between a human and an elf. He possesses fairly-pointed ears and a lithe build, consisting of a light bodily shape. His eyes and hair are the same shade of dark brown, almost black. In addition, his stature is very tall, being over six and a half feet in height, and his musculature is lean but incredibly defined. Overall, his build and basic outward appearance might unsettle those who are not used to such large figures or exerior expressions in both body and the face. Kavran moves with complete precision and deliberation, as though each and every step is measured out to perfection before being made, though he gives off no airs of superiority or arrogance of any sort. He is just a particularly deliberate and intelligent individual.
His clothing of choice is usually very humble and practical. He hardly ever wears anything like robes, since he prefers attire that allows for greater movement without sacrificing security. Since he is well-adjusted to combat, his armor is black in color and is simply a series of plates all around his body that leave the joints open. These uncovered areas are protected by chainmail to boot, to better defend from sly tricks and devious masters of archery or swordplay.

Not-So-Brief History:
Born in the wilderness to a seamstress mother and hunter father, Kavran never had much opportunity to learn of the world around him. Instead, he was taught to hunt and to make a living for himself doing whatever he could, be it from tracking to killing the wildlife for food or trade. During his early childhood, Kavran would often stare in wonder at the sky, the trees, and the oceans with complete wonder. More than anything in his life, he loved the majesty of the world. And, during his late childhood, Kavran became witness to an astonishing display of magic that only refueled this love. He saw several spirits move through the wildlands one evening, and in his reverence, he sought to understand what the entities were. He ventured into the cities and to the local academies where he learned of the nature of magic and the spirits that he had seen. Mesmerized by the tantalizing powers he had seen, Kavran soon caught wind of the Dragon Riders using the arcane arts through the ancient language. To his ten-year-old mind, if he wished to learn magic, he needed to become a Rider. It was this innocence of childhood folly that fueled him to gain the opportunity to be tested for a dragon egg. To his surprise, the black egg he touched hatched for him almost immediately.
Whisked away to Ellesmera for training, Kavran spent the next nine years growing with his dragon, Malthus- a name agreed upon by both. It was during this training that he met several other Dragon Riders that he would come to oppose later in life, particularly one fellow trainee named Galbatorix. At the age of 19, Kavran's life changed utterly when Galbatorix, maddened with grief at the death of his dragon, was banished from the Riders and subsequently slew another Rider. Shortly thereafter, another Rider was murdered and his dragon, Shruikan, vanished. It was unmistakably the work of Galbatorix, and it seemed for ten years that Morzan, another young and promising Rider, had also perished at the Mad One's hands. Seven years passed and no news of Galbatorix came to Ellesmera, despite the Riders' hunt for him. During the lull between disasters, Kavran and Malthus grew more powerful than ever, displaying an almost unreal potency in magic, even for elves and Riders. At his coronation, Kavran was gifted with Dauth, his Rider's Sword, and officially joined the Dragon Riders' ranks. For three years Kavran successfully fulfilled his role as a diplomat, soldier, and a scholar- uniting and serving the world over in the name of his order and peace. Despite Malthus' and his own imperious appearance, the two formed a reputation for being compassionate and brave in the face of conflict and danger. It wasn't until the beginning of the Fall of the Dragon Riders that the pair started to lose the light within themselves.
Morzan had betrayed them all. Galbatorix, now armed with 13 mighty but corrupted Dragon Riders and the stolen dragon, Shruikan, descended upon the order and initiated the terrible Dragon War. The conflict lasted for four bloody years, and in that time, Kavran watched everything and everyone he cared for perish at the hands of those that he had trusted so implicitly. Swearing then, in the last year of the war, that he would not allow Galbatorix's genocide of the Riders ever be complete, he and Malthus fought harder and harder until, at length, even Vrael fell at the end of Galbatorix's accursed might. With no allies and his own failing strength, Kavran would have fought to the death with Galbatorix had not Malthus placed him into a deep slumber and carried him off into the Spine to hide from the Forsworn and Galbatorix. Despite Kavran's protests and fury, Malthus would not allow his Rider to sacrifice his life so foolishly. Even when the fledgling Varden was founded by Brom, the duo never ventured out from their craggy home, staying out of the conflict so as to strike at Galbatorix in secret.
The pair understood the dilemma of approaching the resistance. With Brom and Saphira alone, a pair of Dragon Riders and their companions would be easily defeated by the uncommonly strong Forsworn and Galbatorix, himself. There was little to do but plan and manipulate events from behind the scenes, waiting and watching until The Mad King's fall was, indeed, possible. A century passed, and Eragon Shadeslayer, the first Rider the Varden claimed as their own champion, came to light. Murtagh, another Rider for Galbatorix, battled Eragon during the Second Battle of the Burning Plains. Kavran and Malthus, wary of joining the Varden, observed the Varden's movements from afar. After the siege of Feinster, the Dragon and Rider came to understand that if there was ever a chance of finally fulfilling their vengeance on The Mad King, now was that time. They departed their home in the Spine and left for Uru'Baen, desiring nothing more than to finally slay the tyrant that had massacred everything they had cherished so many years ago.

It flares at the first sign of impudence or disrespect.
