OK, I've heard many arguments about Brom being Eragon's father. I've even heard a few about Sloan being his father. Who do you think Eragon's father is? I'm absolutely positive that Morzan is Eragon's father, for this reason:
On pages 388 and 399 of Eragon, Murtagh explains his heritage to Eragon and Saphira. He says that during her pregnancy, Morzan hid Selena in his castle. After she gave birth to Murtagh, Morzan gave him up to a nurse so that he could watch Selena. Day and night, he did so for three years, except for the occasional days when she was allowed to visit him. Then, as soon as Morzan left to find the egg, she vanished.
Now, as we all know, and as the book says, she vanished to hide her pregnancy from Morzan. The only time she could have had an affair with Brom was in the year that she vanished (as Murtagh is only a few years older than Eragon, and he was already three years old at this time), and even then, Brom was off hunting for the egg, and couldn't afford the time. And even then, Eragon would have been born much later.
Selena had to have been well into pregnancy (maybe two or three months pregnant) before she knew about it. I don't see how anyone could say that Brom was Eragon's father with this fact in mind.

It is revealed later that Morzan is indeed Eragon's father, later in book 2.

*look at signature below* that kind of makes things just a little bit obvious. Although, before I read that part, I was laughing about the thought of Galbatorix being his father. Galbatorix: Brom never told you about your father did he? Eragon: He told me enough! He told me you killed him! Galbatorix: No Eragon, I am your father! Eragon: Noooooo!

I don't think so . . . but can you really imagine Galbatorix doing the horizontal tango?

When Murtagh beats him in their fight at the Burning Plains he takes Zar'Roc, and says it should have gone to the eldest of the brothers, not the youngest. And since Morzan is Murtagh's father, and Eragon is Murtagh's brother, then Morzan is, therefore, Eragon's father. MUrtagh announces it after he takes Zar'Roc. That is where it states that Morzan is his father, to answer your question Amerylis.

Well still he could have meant eldest meaning their bond through Selene... and I haven't read that far..

Half-brother is always a possibility, but I think I'll stick with Morzan being Eragon's daddy. I don't want to think about Galbatorix's sex life.

i think its brom cuz of sum of the quotes in the book and quote from eldest"while two may share two and one of two is certainly one. one might be two"end quote . this sugests that seleena was the mother of both and that morzan was father of murtagh and brom was the father of our favorite hero eragon.this is my opinion.
