Full Name: Freyja Genovefasdaughter
Other name: The Bride
Race: Human
Side: Neutral (so far)
Birthplace: Narda
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Birthday: December 1st
Eyes: Pale blue
Hair: Her hair is light auburn that is usually straight but it tends to curl up in humid weather. They go down to her mid-back but Freyja usually put them up in a bun.
Weight: 130 lbs
Height: 5’5
Magic User: No
Preferred Weapon(s): Freyja was never taught to master any weapons but when she is in need to protect herself, she uses her wood chisels and carving knifes as weapons.
Appearance: Freyja is far from weak and her muscly arms are a testimony of that. Her legs are long but were hardened from years of balancing herself on a ship out in the raging sea and so they lost their lean beauty. Her hands are strong and tough from years of working with them and she has many scars on her fingers and palms. Although her body is more of a hardened disposition, her face retained a certain softness, with her delicate jawline and her big blue eyes. Her small eyebrows rest upon the windows of her soul lightly, taking away any kind of heaviness from her face. She has a few beauty marks upon her face, contrasting her pale skin during the winter. Her lips are small and usually of a light pink tint, turning redder after heavy manual work or a great excitement, and devoid of any angularity to them, with an unpronounced cupid’s bow and a slim lower lip. Her light auburn hair are usually pulled back into a loose bun, making her face seem a little rounder than it actually is. When not tied, her hair frames her face and hangs down to her mid-back, giving her a look of disheveled beauty. She has an elegant silhouette although most men would say she isn’t enough curvaceous with her ungenerous chest and narrow hips. Because of the carved wooden beads from her necklace, Freyja always smells like sandalwood, a smell she is particularly fond of.
Personality: Freyja is not afraid of getting dirty and is a hard-worker, never giving up on a task until it’s done and she’s satisfied with it. Because of this, some considered her stubborn or even pigheaded at times. She enjoys the company of other and has a tendency to be generous and charitable with everyone, whoever they may be. Her amiable nature is an unconscious defense mechanism after having her heart broken; her way of trying to convince herself she isn’t hurt as badly as she truly is. Quite paradoxically, she is unforgiving and resentful and has been known to keep grudges for years on end when someone wrongs her. Although she tries to hide it, Freyja is full of fears and can sometimes be paralyzed by them. She has the contemptible instinct of flight deep-rooted inside her and although she would like to be fearless, she sometimes cannot override her urge to flee. She sometimes has a hard time deciphering her own emotions about other people and finds it difficult to take sides for anything even though she has a deep sense of what is wrong and right and isn’t afraid to voice it. She doesn’t like being chained or forced to give her loyalty to anyone, preferring to be her own master, hence her reluctance to choose sides.
When she is around others, she is usually nice and likes to help them out. She isn’t distant in any way and is the first to hug others and give out playful punches left and right. She is easy to get along with and likes being surrounded by good company. Although she is very warm, it takes a lot of time to gain her trust but once she gives it to someone, she will do anything in her power to help them out and will sometimes even overlook her own good for their benefit. After being heartbroken back in Narda, she has a slight fear of the opposite gender and, even though she is a romantic at heart, she tries her best to avoid falling for another man. She loves to have a good laugh and loves being entertained hence her love for musicians and travelling performers of any kind. She has a soft spot for animals and will always help them out, even if it means she has to skip a meal to give it to a stray dog or cat.
Likes: Wood carving, valleys, animals, the company of others, music, freedom, storytelling and the smell of freshly cut wood.
Dislikes: the smell of fish and of whale grease, gratuitous violence, cruelty, people who are uptight, guards or mercenaries and the town of Narda
Strengths: Iron-willed, hardy (physically), resourceful
Weakness: fearful, easily emotionally wounded, impulsive (doesn’t plan ahead)
Family:
Mother: Genovefa Huyldisdaughter (deceased after complications of Freyja’s birth)
Father: Eryl Sanurson (Unknown)
History:
After many hours of laborious work and many tears, Genovefa finally delivered a healthy little girl which she named Freyja on the first of December during a snow storm. Having lost much blood during the childbirth, Genofeva was on the verge of death but the blizzard prevented Eryl from fetching the town’s healer, resulting in the passing of his beloved wife. Although Eryl loved his daughter, he had difficulty raising her properly, finding her face all too similar to his late wife and bringing with it sorrow and grief. Freyja was, as a result, raised by no one and everyone, receiving beatings for inappropriate behavior and praise for her hard work from whoever asked for her help like many of the children of Narda. Her father being a whaler, he sometimes disappeared for many weeks on the sea and would rarely see his own daughter which was, paradoxically, a source of sadness and relief for as much as he loved his only daughter, she reminded him too much of his wife.
During her early childhood, Freyja helped around the docks by mending holes in the nets and preparing the many fishing rods, tying the fishhooks to the slightly transparent thread and sometimes pricking herself with the sharp metal, giving her some of her many scars of her hands. When she grew older, it was clear she was hardy enough to be out on the sea and captains from many ships started taking an interest in the hard-working lass. As soon as she reached the tender age of 10, she would accompany fishermen and would either help with the gutting of fish or climbing up the mast and making sure all the ropes were in order and sometimes she would be forced to go down in the hold and kill some of the rats that dwelled there.
As she grew up, she proved to be a valuable asset to any ship seeing as she was resourceful and could do almost every chore on a ship, from reeling in the nets full of fish to repairing the ship itself. She also started woodworking which she proved to have an innate talent at but never showed anyone and developed it secretly. When she turned 15, a whaler’s ship recruited her to man the harthingy because of her good balance on a ship which made her very good at taking aim easily, even on a raging sea. At first she was scared of going on the open sea for weeks and hunting down animals that were sometimes bigger than the ship she was on but she learned to get rid of that fear slowly. She proved to be a good investment and soon was considered the mascot of her ship thanks to her many exploits. Although she wasn’t particularly fond of her lifestyle, she embraced it nonetheless, thinking that it was all her life would ever sum up to. She continued her life as a whaler for another couple of years, gaining more experience and muscles as she matured on the decks of her whaling ship called Elana after the captain’s wife for good luck.
During the summer of her 18th year, a traveler arrived at the docks from a passing ship and stayed inside the city, causing much gossip from the town’s women. After many prodding questions from the maidens of the town, he simply replied he was a wanderer and traveled the wide of Alagaësia in search of adventure. Freyja, much like every other girl in the city, took a liking to him, spying on him when she had the time, but never daring to speak to him. Freyja was entranced by his flute which he played almost every night and discovered through him her love of music and the arts of singing. After he caught her sculpting a piece of wood out on the docks at night, he proposed to teach her how to play his flute if she agreed to make him a new one. Through the strange relation of teacher and infatuated student, love blossomed and soon he was talking honeyed words to her, promising her to take her along in his travels and show her the world. All too soon, there was talk of marriage and it was agreed that they would be wed at the end of the summer. Her father had left for a whaling expedition and so was absent to watch over his daughter which is why no one opposed to the unlikely alliance. But when the time came and Freyja was getting ready to be wed, her hair up with many flower braided into them and a simple white gown resting lightly on her body, a fishermen told her that he had witnessed the man boarding a ship bound for the south. When the news spread, the town’s folk took to referring to Freyja as ‘The Bride’, a cruel joke that caused the young maiden much sorrow.
Broken-hearted and miserable, Freyja couldn’t stand to live in Narda anymore and was convinced that if she left her hometown behind, she would be able to get over her sorrow. This is partly why she is of such a good-natured spirit; she believes that only through friendship and kindness will she be able to forget what happened to her. Although her ship’s captain strongly opposed it, she quit her life as a whaler and moved away, taking with her woodworking tools and her would-be husband’s flute which he had left behind, taking with him Freyja’s.
Traveling alongside gypsies or trader’s caravans, Freyja soon made her way down to Teirm where she worked on her woodworking skills and took the decision she would never go back to the life of a whaler or a fisherman. She left the big city one night and wandered her way in Alagaësia, using her horse Valeo as means of transportation.
Anything extra:
Name: Valeo
Race: Horse
Gender: Gelding (male)
Age: 6 years
Appearance: Valeo is a solidly built dapple gray horse with a dark grey mane and tail. He has heavy white feathering on the legs and an abundant mane that curls up when it gets too long. He has a refined head resting on a thick set neck and powerful sloping shoulders. His hindquarters are round and strong, perfect for jumping and his hard hoofs do not need any metal shoes to protect. Thanks to his strong legs, Valeo is able to navigate almost any type of terrain, from swampy forests to rocky hills with ease.
History: Raised to be a war horse, he was well trained but was shunned because of his dark grey dapples, knights preferring having more ‘classical’ looking steeds such as black, dark bay or immaculate white. When his prime age was past, the owner realized he wouldn’t be able to sell him as a war horse so sold it for a song to Freyja as a hacking horse.
Strengths: intelligent, strong and loyal
Weaknesses: fidgety at times, soft skin (easy to wound) and has a fear of fire and urgals.
Personality: Valeo is eager to please and will work until he collapses if asked to. He loves the company of other horses and humans and has a tendency to neigh loudly when around his kind. He is very easy to love and his turned up ears are inviting anyone to pet him. He has a special connection with Freyja and loves to follow her around and will do anything for a treat. Although he loves almost everyone, he is very picky about who gets to ride him and will not hesitate to buck someone off if he finds him or her either too heavy or not good enough of a rider.
