The air was feeling scarce and stale, and honestly Uruale wasn't sure if it was because of the eminent danger he knew he would soon have to face or if it was simply the sweat lingering in the air from the other warriors. Uruale had been dressed for the part that he would play that day. He wore a simple tunic, one that lacked the nobility of those that he was accustomed too. Besides that he wore dark trousers and army-style boots, along with certain pieces of armor on his shoulders, torso, and shins. He knew that today was going to be especially taxing and life-threatening.
He swept his locks back with his gloved left hand, his cold grey eyes peering aimlessly at the brick wall across from him. The room he had been in was obviously in the middle of being up-kept and mistreated. The walls were decorated with painting and ornaments here and there, and the room was fairly lit but the floor felt and looked like the dirt of the Hadarac Desert. Uruale narrowed his gaze in frustration and the shadows of the room danced on his tensed face. The king had a wicked way of fooling you into a false sense of bliss before throwing you out to your death.

Ragdar had thought he knew imminent death. He had fought a Varden camp when he was young, and much worse yet none of that was as bad as this. He was wearing his usual war attire, his chainmail gleaming though in the small confined room was dulled. He was loathe to do this yet his father was not to be denied. He sighed and walked to Uruale's side giving him awicked grin as a reminder who was his enemy now.

Rerukusu leaned against the wall nearest the door. He was no better armed than either Ragdar or Uruale. He wore only the most basic armor that had been allowed and was unarmed. How were they supposed to fight a Fanghur without weapons and live? "Any bright ideas for not getting eaten?" he said sourly. He'd tried to talk his way out of this but Galbatorix had his mind made up. There was no getting out of this.
Before Ragdar or Uruale could reply a roar of cheers rose outside. It sounded like the arena was completely full. He could hear Galbatorix's voice announcing the fight. Then the doors to the room opened and a soldier ushered them out, before shutting the doors and retreating from the arena. A large door on the far side of the sandy arena remained close but Rerukusu knew it was where the Fanghur would come from.
He glanced up at Galbatorix who sat in a shaded and rather luxurious spot. He could easily see the whole arena from where he sat. Murtagh was on the king's right side, Zar'oc hung at his side, his expression remained unreadable. The Champion of the Empire did not appear to have any injuries from Galbatorix's torture. Thorn perched on one of the large stone pillars that lined the arena. The other dragons had been forbidden to watch the fight, Galbatorix didn't want to give them the chance to interfere. This was a punishment not an execution. The Empire needed their riders and couldn't afford to loose one. Thorn was there as a precaution should Reru, Ragdar or Uruale dance with death. Despite the crimson dragon's presence there was still a chance one of them could die.
"Release the Fanghur!" Galbatorix ordered. The double doors on the far side swung open and a dragon like creature walked out into the arena. As soon as it's tail was out of the way the doors clanged shut. The Fanghur looked around the arena until he spotted the trio, with a savage roar it lunged for them with snapping jaws.

Ragdar had looked at Rerukusu, and he smiled. He was about to reply when suddenly he heard the creaks of metal against chain. The heave of men pulling. As he looked, the Fanghur was released and he took a second to study it. It seemed twenty feet in length. Average length for a Fanghur. It was brown and seemed powerful.
As it focused on the trio he heard the screech both mentally and physically. He winced and rubbed his temples. His mind was throbbing with pain as the Fanghur was attempting to dig into his mind. He refused and simply gave it a stubborn wall of stubbornness. As it seemed to realize that fighting with it's mind was useless, it lunged at him and the others as he narrowly avoided the razor sharp teeth and claws. He rolled to one side and aimed a punch at the Fanghur's head, though he didn't know what good that would do to it.

Uruale's eyes followed Ragdar as he flashed a wicked grin his way, obviously trying to intimidate him in some way but really it was useless. The three of them would have to work together to simply live through fighting the Fanghur, so why would he even instigate such conflict. It just made Uruale believe that Galbatroix's riders were starting to become more and more thickheaded. He sighed and shook his head before turning his gaze towards Reru's voice.
Uruale stood up off the wall before letting his hands fall to his side and turning to Reru. "Yea, don't get killed. " he responded before the sound of the arena's audience had drowned him out. Their cheers had turned him towards the entrance, his body half expecting the call for them to enter the arena and half wanting him to take a step back. It was then that the doors had opened and the three was ushered out into the baking sun. Uruale shied away from the bright light before turning to look up towards the unpleasant and yet alluring voice of the King. His eyes widen a bit when he noticed Murtagh at his side. He had always portrayed the always vigilant dog but now he knew that Murtagh was far from it. He couldn't help keeping his eyes on the Empire's Champion, his eyes were calm for his current situation and his lips curving into a soft smile.
He finally brought his eyes from Murtagh and looked around him. The crowd was packed to the brim with Uru'baen's citizens and they were all itching to get to the day's main event. He even looked up towards the glimmering frame of red that was Thorn. " Must be precautionary, " he thought steely. Uruale looked around for potential weapons or some form of advantage while he still had the time. He took another step forward, effectively placing him to the forefront of the group as he took notice of the sandy arena. " The sand, " he said with a spark of revelation. He crouched down and swept up a bundle of it in his hand.
Just then Galbatorix had called for the release of the Fanghur, prompting Uruale to lift his darkly grey eyes upon the double doors some yards away from him. Uruale cursed himself inwardly as the Fanghur emerged, from its appearance it was obvious that the Fanghur had been fully grown. The serpent's body was covered in dull brown scales and its leathery wings looks near ragged. Its piercing yellow eyes struck him as it released a horrid screech and charged at them. Uruale backed up slowly, readying himself to leap out the way once he could. Unlike Ragdar, Uruale had leaped off to the side, throwing the sand in his hand towards the monster's eyes before rolling on his feet and readying himself for its next attack. He could already see the day going on far longer than he would like.

rider of Kamikurai | empire rider Reru didn't seem phased at all when the Fanghur launched a mental attack. His defenses proved more than adequate against it, and he now was glad for his father's brutal training in defending his mind.
The Fanghur had come straight at him and with Uruale and Ragdar on either side he had no where to flee. He didn't want to get pinned against the wall, so he tumbled under the Fanghur. The beast anticipated his movement and sharp claws scraped Reru's back. The crowed roared and gasped in excitement as he was injured.
The half-elf stood up after the roll and backed away shooting an angry look at the audience. This wasn't sport this was dangerous! His shirt was torn and his back was bleeding from deep slashes. Either he had a strong pain tolerance or he didn't feel any pain, the injury didn't seem to bother him. "This is ridiculous! How can we do anything without weapons or magic?" he grumbled now just attempting to stay out of range of the Fanghur.
His shirt being torn on the back now hung loose on him, he tore off the remaining rags and tossed it aside. The bright sunlight reflected off a red gem ringed by gold that appeared to be embedded just below his neck.
Aside from sand there was nothing in the arena they could use to defend themselves. He saw no way out of this, he didn't dare use magic against Galbatorix's orders though. The consequences of that would be worse than this.

Ragdar had landed a far ways off, as the roll sent him very far as he wanted. He was about to go back when he saw Rerukusu being slashed on the back, the fabric of his shirt gave a small sound then ripped. There was no way they could kill the Fanghur without weapons, or magic. There had to be something somewhere around here. He wanted to give Rerukusu a chance to recover and so grabbed a small pebble he found at his foot and threw it at the Fanghur, as picking up the pebble scraped his finger on something under it.
Solid stone! That was it! Though the arena was filled with sand, it only covered hard smooth stone. If they uncovered enough of it and lured the Fanghur into pouncing on them there, it should be injured a little. Given enough time it might break something. He decided to alert the others soon, though not aloud as to not give the Fanghur any warning. He threw the pebble and reached out with his mind."Uruale! Rerukusu! Help me clear a large area of sand, there's smooth stone under this. If we remove the sand and have the Fanghur pounce on us there, after many times it ought to break a bone or something." he said, his mind near their barriers but not close enough for them to fear he meant hostility.

Uruale stood up from his crouch, missing the fact that Reru had been slashed but not missing the slight irritation that the sand had brought to the Fanghur's eyes. " Damn, " he whispered to himself, wishing for more than what he had gotten. The crowd raved in joy at Reru's show of blood, their thirst was partially quenched . His gray eyes moved over to Reru as he stood up. Uruale slowly inched himself back, keeping himself aware of the Fanghur's moves. The creature was obviously waiting for its next chance to attack.
His cool eyes stared the beast down as its serpentine body slithered from side to side, ready to pounce on the first of them to stumble or show weakness.
Uruale looked around him, the stadium was so bare. He could not for life of him figure out how the King wanted them to actually take that beast down. It was as if he was expecting them to lose. Anger had begun to swell up in the youth, his gut filling up with a kind of arrogance that made him defy his natural instincts. His brows furrowed over his dark gray eyes and his mouth formed into clenched teeth as he dashed off towards the Fanghur. He had felt something push up against his mind but with his barriers up at full strength he would hear nothing or get no images. The mental contact had been unfamiliar anyway so he figured it was the Fanghur again trying to cripple him with pain.
He rushed towards the beast, leaping up to smash the monster in the face with a wild hook. His fist clenched tightly and he smashed it into its snout, sending the beasts head to the side but not ending the battle. The beast quickly turned, slamming its thick tail into Uruale's side and sending him a great distance to the left. He winced in pain and attempted to right himself before he had landed the wrong way onto the hard ground. His hand slid across the sand as he came to a halt. His left hand reached over to right side, the armor he had on had cracked from the force of the blow and Uruale was sure the beast had broken one of his rib.
Again the crowd had raised with applauds. Causing Uruale to glance around himself, annoyed . " They wouldn't be so jovial if they had to face such a beast. " he decided in the recesses of his mind.
