Gildor stumbled and fell to his knees as his staff was suddenly pried from his hands. He listened as it skidded away from him and landed in Amerylis's grip. He had expected her to shoot some sort of spell at him, not steal his staff. Again, that was just plain old mean, stealing a blind man's stick... and again, he was impressed. Not every Elf was so conniving in their fighting tactics, and that was an aspect Gildor liked about her. He hoped her personality would turn out to be as equally interesting as the way she just fought him.
But first, he would have to set her straight on exactly who won this match.
"Well, I believe you win. Guess we won't be going with you after all," she said after coming back over to him a moment later, handing him back his staff as she spoke. "I doubted your abilities, and I am truly sorry for thinking you to be an easy win." She placed a hand in his to help pull him to his feet, which he accepted. "May your journey be safe," she told him, and with that, turned back towards where Kaala and her dragon were resting.
Gildor stood there in silence for a moment, letting her go. He didn't know why, (perhaps because his mind was still clouded with mead), but he suddenly found himself feeling rather guilty for starting this whole fight with Amerylis. She had turned out to be a better combatant than he expected, she had been exceedingly kind to him before, and... and he just repaid her by beating her, (of course she had beaten him back pretty badly, but he was the victor). Before he knew what he was doing, Gildor had opened his mouth and half-shouted, "Wait."
He felt her turn slowly on her heal in the ground. For a moment he didn't know what to say, now that he had her attention. After swallowing lightly, he swatted the ground with the tip of his staff and suddenly started apologizing. "I'm... I'm sorry I was rude to you before. I understand now that what you lack in experience, you make up for in heart and creativity. That was... a most impressive fight you put up."
No one who knew Gildor well would have expected him to say what he did next.
"I suppose you, Kaala, and Mirror wouldn't be too much trouble if you really wanted to come along... So long as you let me search for the egg at my own pace."

"Wait!"
Amerylis turned and looked at him. Her eyebrow was raises slightly. She narrowed her eyes and studied him for a moment. With a disappointed look she turned on her heel and bent to pick up her things.
"I'm... I'm sorry I was rude to you before. I understand now that what you lack in experience, you make up for in heart and creativity. That was... a most impressive fight you put up."
Amerylis straightened up. She glared at him and seriously considered making him repeat that in the anceint language. She looked to Mirror and then back to Gildor. she took a few steps closer to him.
"I suppose you, Kaala, and Mirror wouldn't be too much trouble if you really wanted to come along... So long as you let me search for the egg at my own pace."
She ran the rest of the way and threw her arms around him. She hugged him tightly around the neck then quickly released and stood infront of him. Her heartbeat rapidly in her chest and her cheeks turned a bright red. She smoothed out her skirt and shirt and took down her hair. The wind blew it in his direction, forcing Amerylis hold it all to one side. She looked around uneasily. After a few minutes she grinned. "You don't have to worry about me. I'm not a very pushy pers-...Well... you just won't have to worry about me. I swear." She said with a sly grin on her face.

Gildor suddenly found himself being choked around the neck almost as soon as he finished his apology. His milky eyes went wide in surprise and he winced as she unintentionally yanked his injured shoulder. He could feel her heartbeat accelerate with happiness as she pressed herself again his chest, and although had no intention to hug her back whatsoever, he grit his teeth and bore the pain until she released him so as not to ruin her mood. Once she let him go, he grumpily massaged the aching muscle with his free hand in silence.
"You don't have to worry about me. I'm not a very pushy pers-... Well... You just won't have to worry about me, I swear."
He said nothing, but gave her a simple nod of wary approval in response. A gust of wind caught his uncombed hair and blew his mops of bangs clear from his face. For a moment, his tired but... curiously handsome features were exposed. His rich skin was tanned further from days spent traveling under the Alagaësian sun, his nose was strong and sharp, his lips perfectly sculpted... and his eyes... Behind their sightless milky film, they had the slightest touch of blue in them. Had he not been born blind, they probably would have been the most spectacular sapphire blue.
"Should we wake Kaala up and get going, or should we follow her lead and rest a bit before heading off?" he asked, finally breaking the silence as the breeze died back down.

Amerylis took notice of Gildor's discomfort. "I-" She stopped as a larger gust of wind blew both of their hair. She held it down and looked over Gildor again.
She was glad that Kaala was safely tucked away beneath Mirror's wings, because there she stood, mouth open, staring at him in awe. Once again she marveled at his untampered beauty. If all elves looked like that we wouldn't need to worry about our appear- She stopped herself there as the wind died down and his hair settled in his face messily, hiding his features again.
"Should we wake Kaala up and get going, or should we follow her lead and rest a bit before heading off?"
Amerylis looked him up and down again. "We should rest. I should fix your arm up. I can't heal it now but I can put it in a sling, until maybe tomorrow when I'm no longer sore." She said, feeling a bit guilty. "It was my fault anyways."
Amerylis unrolled her bedroll, intending on staying right here for the night, behind the tavern. She pulled out a few excess pieces of cloth in order to prepare his sling.

"We should rest," she answered softly, "I should fix your arm up. I can't heal it now, but I can put it in a sling, until maybe tomorrow when I'm no longer sore... It was my fault anyways."
"Some would say it was a cheap move you made, hitting me where I was weak," Gildor said as he followed her back to where their supplies where piled beside Mirror. "But sometimes the cheapest moves are the smartest moves... because they certainly do smart."
He knelt down beside where Amerylis had unrolled her blankets, then placed his staff down in front of him and crossed his legs. He remained quiet while she retrieved a roll of bandages from her travel bag, rubbing the aching muscle in his left shoulder moodily. Although he didn't want it to be bound in a sling, but he knew she was right. The less he moved it, the faster it would heal. He held still as she sat down behind him and allowed her to handle his aching arm with care.
"I have a kettle and some tea in the bottom of my bag," he mentioned as she eased his arm into the makeshift sling and tied the ends around his neck. "The package with the rough texture is the one that's good for pain relief. If you can retrieve those, my waterskin, and have a mug of your own, I would be more than happy to prepare some for you." And of course, since he was being a little too nice now, he had to add, "Might help ease the pain I knocked into your little behind, eh?"

"Some would say it was a cheap move you made, hitting me where I was weak, but sometimes the cheapest moves are the smartest moves... because they certainly do smart."
Amerylis frowned. She wasn't that thrilled that she had hurt him, much less that she took the easy out and went for his hurt arm. She looked up at his arm and sighed.
Amerylis finished preparing the sling just as he sat down. She leaned over him and set his arm in the sling then tied it carefully behind his head. She tightned it a little then sat back.
"I have a kettle and some tea in the bottom of my bag," he mentioned as she eased his arm into the makeshift sling and tied the ends around his neck. Amerylis grinned. Well that was a start. She thought as she got up and went to his bag. She pulled out the package he was talking about and his waterskin. She went to her bag and got out two mugs.
She returned to his side and handed him the supplies. She pulled the blanket around her to protect her from the cold then looked at him expectingly. "How do you expect to make tea with no fire?" She asked, crossing her legs.

"Thank you," Gildor said lightly when Amerylis brought him the things he asked for, including two of her own mugs. He placed the kettle in front of his staff, and with a little difficulty, opened the top of his waterskin with one hand and filled the kettle.
"How do you expect to make tea with no fire?" the younger Elf asked as he was pouring dried tea leaves into each of the mugs. He didn't turn his head to face her, but raised a brow at her question.
"You're joking, right?" he asked in response, surprised to find her serious. He then let out a light chuckle when she didn't answer, and waved his long-nailed right hand lazily over the kettle. After murmuring, "<Simmer>" softly in the Ancient Language, steam began rising from the tin kettle's short spout only a second later.
"Are you sure you're an Elf? Or perhaps you're just very forgetful?" he asked smartly as he filled the two mugs. He picked one up, swirled it's contents three times to mix the dried leaves with the hot water, and held it out for Amerylis to take. "Be sure to let the herbs soak and cool for two or three minutes, or the remedy won't work properly."
There was a pause as the two waited for the herbs to finish soaking. After three minutes had already passed, Gildor decided to brake the silence just for the sake of conversation. "So... Amerylis. Since we will be traveling companions for who knows how long, we may as well get to know each other sooner than later." Shifting his position to a more comfortable one, he lay down on his right side and propped his head up with his right hand. "Tell me about yourself."

Mirror gently began to unroll himself, nudging Kaala gently. He waited until she stirred before opening his wing, letting the moonlight filter in. As she stood he got up and stretched. He carefully made his way to the back of the tavern and grabbed some firewood in his jaws. Returning to the two elves, he dropped it and blew a breath of flame, lighting the bundle. Walking across the fire, he gently laid his head beside Gildor and promptly fell asleep.
Kaala rose and began to unroll her bedroll, ignoring Mirror’s antics and beginning to gather the herbs from her packs needed for a broth.
"Be sure to let the herbs soak and cool for two or three minutes, or the remedy won't work properly."
She looked up and the two and calmly asked, “Did I miss something?”

"Are you sure you're an Elf?"
Amerylis grinned at her own stupidity. "Not after two or three drinks." She said ignoring his other comment.
"Be sure to let the herbs soak and cool for two or three minutes, or the remedy won't work properly."They both sat in silence for what seemed like forever. " So... Amerylis. Since we will be traveling companions for who knows how long, we may as well get to know each other sooner than later.Tell me about yourself."
Amerylis nodded and set the mug on the ground in front of her. She shifted unconmfortably, not knowing how much would be enough. "H-hold that thought. This may take a while."She said grinning nervously. She released the blankets, allowing them to fall to the ground, and stood up. She pulled two more blankets out of her bag, leaving her bag mostly empty now. She looked at the few contents left then looked back up in the direction of the tavern. She clicked her tongue a few times, and then returned to the bedroll on the ground.
"Take one." She said holding the blanket out to him. She returned to her sitting position and pulled them back over her shoulder. She looked back to the tavern expectantly.
Arsen rounded the corner, right on cue. Perched on his saddle was Avalon. She let out an ear piercing screech and flew to her owner's shoulder. Amerylis pet her head a few times and then Arsen, as he stopped beside her. She undid his bags, which were filled with the rest of her supplies, and set them on the ground. She held an apple out to him. He took it from her hand gratefully. After one bite it fell to the ground, where he proceeded to nibble on it whenever he had finished with one bite.
"Okay what kind of things where you looking for?" She eyed him for a second. "Well just stop me if I'm heading in the wrong direction."After a short pause she continued. "I've always ended up the caregiver in most situations. It kind of came naturally since I had to raise my brother since he was young. Other than that I usually spend what little free time I have training or singing. Really original right? An elf that sings?" She smirked and continued before he had time to ask why she had to care for her brother. "But anyway, music is more like a passion for me. Not just something to make the plants grow. What about you?" She asked eying him.
“Did I miss something?”
Only me embarrassing myself. Remind me to never drink again. She thought, allowing Kaala to hear her. "A pathetic fight on my behalf." She said winking at Kaala and laughing slightly. She stopped quickly, trying not to let Gildor think something was going on.
Amerylis aimlessly pet Avalon, and drank some of the tea. She waited a few moments before drinking more, feeling the pain melt away slowly. She slumped over the mug, staring into its murky depths. She began missing Ellesmera and her brother.l. D amn Surda.... She thought venomously. "Have anything to get rid of homesickness? Or possibly... drunkenness?" She said looking up to Gildor. She twirled her finger in the tea and sighed.

"H-hold that thought. This may take a while."
Gildor felt just a little bit of blood drain from his face at that. He only asked her to talk about herself, so why was he getting the feeling he had tapped into the beginning of some long, boring, emotional life story? Hobbies and favorite foods would have sufficed! She even handed him a blanket, as if to make him more comfortable for the duration of her tale.
It did indeed take a while for her to start. Apparently, she couldn't talk about herself without her horse present, and her... it sounded like a falcon. Gildor waited quietly as she got up to remove the rest of her supplies from her horse and fed him what smelled like an apple-
His thought process was suddenly interrupted as Mirror lifted his heavy, scaly bulk from the ground and stretched. The vibrations he gave off in the earth as he trotted off in the direction of the bar tingled against Gildor's sensory magic. He returned and dropped a pile of firewood on the ground, then lit it with a single breath. This was very nice of him and all, but the fact that he chose to sit down beside his only other male companion in the group didn't go over very well with Gildor, who sat up and tried to move himself away. Thanks to his prior experiences with them, he wasn't very fond of dragons. His nervous discomfort only increased when Mirror decided his lap was a good place for a pillow.
"I've always ended up the caregiver in most situations..."
Gildor didn't hear a single word coming out of Amerylis's mouth after Mirror fell asleep. He was too scared of being bitten or barbequed or grabbed by the collar and tossed away if he breathed the wrong way. He set his tea down and tried to slip out from under the dragon's scaly chin, but stopped when he grumbled lightly in sleepy protest.
"What about you?"
"Huh?! O-oh, I hate carrots too," Gildor stated with a nervous jump, making Mirror snort in his slumber. His breath was so hot, and it smelled faintly of dead rabbits and deer and... he shuttered at the thought of what else this lizard might have a taste for.
"You know, Skulblaka... There's this thing called 'personal space'," he started to whisper as calmly and politely as he possibly could. "Not to seem rude or anything, but, um... you aren't exactly respecting mine right now."
Amerylis was asking him something about homesickness and drunkenness, but again, he was too busy being uncomfortable to listen.

Kaala finally seemed to realize what Mirror had done and with a sigh walked over. She reached down and stroked the great dragon across his brow before grasping his head by the horns. She told Gildor, "As soon as I pull his head up, you better get out of the way." With that she began struggling to lift the dragons head off of Gildor's lap. She managed to get it about three feet up, just enough to let Gildor scramble from underneath it, before promptly dropping Mirror back to the ground. She watched as he grumbled in his sleep and hiccuped a small flame before settling once more into a deep slumber.
With that done she turned back to her bags and pulled out her cast iron pot. She grabbed the knife from her boot and began peeling the skin from a ginger root. After tossing in some water and a few herbs she grabbed some rocks and set them over the fire before place the pot on them. She broke out her set of bowls and a newly acquired ladle. She covered the pot and began to unfurl one of her blankets, setting it next to the fire so she could keep and eye on the broth.

Fortunately for Gildor, the slumbering dragon's Rider soon came to his rescue. Unfortunately, the rescue wasn't as simple as he hoped it would be.
"As soon as I pull his head up, you better get out of the way."
He really didn't like the sound of that, but swallowed his nervous and nodded in agreement. With a bit of difficulty, Kaala lifted her scaly partner's head by the horns just enough for him to slip out from under him. Gildor had to snatch up his teacup quickly to keep it's contents from spilling when she dropped the dragon's great head back down on the ground. He heard another deep grumble, a hiccup, and suddenly felt the heat of a small flame. Still feeling like he was too close to danger for comfort, Gildor stood and took a few steps backward, closer to where Amerylis was sitting.
"I must be the only Elf in Alagaësia who really, really doesn't like dragons," he murmured to her, hoping Mirror couldn't hear him. He would have used 'hate' in that sentence if he wasn't still a little afraid of being picked up and thrown, chased, or burned. He just hadn't had any particularly good experiences with dragons yet.

"Huh?! O-oh, I hate carrots too,"
Amerylis frowned. Carrots? What? She soon bacame very annoyed. What was the point of this chat? This elf was proving to live up to his reputation as crazy.
"I must be the only Elf in Alagaësia who really, really doesn't like dragons,"
Amerylis let out a soft laugh. "I think they're amazing." She said after downing the last bit of her drink. "I need to go for a walk. Not like I'll be sleeping for a while. Care you join me? We could stop in for a bit to drink."She thought about that logically. "Maybe not in there..."She said motioning to the tavern behind her.
She set her blanket on the ground and dusted herself off. She clicked onces with her tonuge. Her falcon swooped down and landed on her shoulder. She made a soft cry and switched her weight from side to side on Amerylis's shoulder. Amerylis pat her on the head and looked down at Gildor.

"I think they're amazing."
Gildor laughed nervously and didn't smile. "Put a blindfold on and get one to chase you and throw you around. Trust me, there won't be much room in you left for liking them then." He finally choked down some tea to calm himself, and after a moment the pain in his shoulder slowly began to abate. Why had he waited so long to drink it again? Oh yes... annoying dragon.
"I need to go for a walk. Not like I'll be sleeping for a while. Care to join me? We could stop in for a bit to drink... Maybe not in there..."
He didn't have to consider her proposition for very long to make a decision; just long enough for him to gulp down the last of his tea. "I think I've had enough to drink for one night, but a walk sounds lovely," he said as he set the empty cup down by Amerylis's bag and picked up his staff. The mead in his system seemed to be wearing down a bit, seeing as he was in a much better mood. That, and he wanted desperately to get away from the scary slumbering serpent, if only for a little while.
"Care to join us, Rider?" he called back to Kaala, though didn't bother to turn around to face her. It wasn't that he was trying to be rude; that was just the way he was.

"Care to join us, Rider?"
Kaala stood and stretched eyeing Gildor's back. She took a moment to think before calling out, "I would if I didn't have dinner going." She turned and pulled a lid from her pack with a grimace. "Hurry back. I don't want to overheat this broth." With that she covered the pot and sat down, eyes staring at the fire. As the two began to walk off she glanced at them, her thoughts wandering.
Only me embarrassing myself. Remind me to never drink again
Her brow furrowed as she remembered the thought Amerylis had sent her. "What in Islanzadi's name is going on around here?" She muttered, confused as to why Gildor was suddenly game to allow them to accompany him. "Something happened and I don't know what." She looked at their retreating forms and a nagging suspicion began eating her mind. She shook her head, telling herself that even Amerylis wouldn't go to those lengths to get them in on the journey.
She shrugged. "I'm making to much of this. More than likely Amerylis just got her butt handed to her by Gildor." She nodded to herself and reached for the ladle, pulling the lid off of the pot and stirring the broth. She looked up and called, "Gildor! Do you have any Willowbark tea?"

Amerylis nodded and turned away from Kaala. She rounded the corner of the tavern without saying a word. Avalon peered over at Gildor and blinked a few times. She screeched then looked away from him. Amerylis pet her head thoughtfully. "So. Kaala called you the Ellesmera Runaway. Why?" She asked, then added. "Why did you run away, I mean?"
The door to the tavern opened right as they passed. A lady in a rather tight corset top came staggering out with a half bald man. They headed down the opposite street, both giggling uncontrolably. Amerylis rolled her eyes. "Those kind of women disgust me." She muttered crossing her arms, and continuing forward..

"I would if I didn't have dinner going," Kaala answered and added, "Hurry back. I don't want to overheat this broth."
"Will do, love, will do," Gildor promised with a wave over his uninjured shoulder as he and Amerylis departed, heading back towards the lamp-lit town. Although it was getting late, signs of life were speckled throughout the capital in it's various bars, inns, and brothels. It seemed Gildor had picked the worst side of the city to go drinking in, but unsurprisingly that choice seemed to fit his twisted taste.
The familiar sound of a falcon screech interrupted the faint bar music drifting through he air, catching Gildor's attention. He had noticed Amerylis's bird before, he just hadn't mentioned anything to her. He was about to when she began the conversation first.
"So," she started, "Kaala called you the Ellesméra Runaway. Why?" And before he could answer with a smart, 'Because I ran away from Ellesméra, obviously,' she quickly added, "Why did you run away, I mean?"
Well, he had wanted to know more about her. It was only fair she know more about him, even if he hadn't been able to listen to anything she said about herself before, (you try listening to someone with a giant lizard head resting in your lap!)
"Both my parents where convinced I was too weak and helpless to make my own way in the world, and smothered any attempt ever I made towards developing a stronger sense of independence," he answered lowly and clearly and without emotion, "They wanted me to live at home my whole life and be a musician, but I wanted to make my own choices... So I left, and I did. Simple, really."
As they passed the tavern they were in earlier the door swung open, and for a brief moment the evening breeze was filled with loud, cheerful fiddle and tambourine music and drunken laughter. Two people were stumbling out onto the road in front of them, and by the sound of their giddy voices Gildor guessed it was a barmaid and her catch for the night. His suspicions were confirmed when Amerylis muttered beside him, "Those kind of women disgust me."
"They're not all that bad, once you get to know one or two of them" he said with a shrug, regretting it a second later as his left shoulder flared up a bit. With his right hand occupied with his staff, he couldn't rub it to ease the pain, but it was probably better that he didn't. Besides, the medicinal tea he had earlier was beginning to work it's pain-relieving wonders again. "Trust me when I say most of them are a lot smarter than then let on, and with the right amount of money they can give a man the best night of his life... Though you certainly don't want to double-cross one of them and run into her later."
Clearly he was speaking from experience.
"Oh, that reminds me. If you see a tall, thin girl with a dress that's missing a lace strap on her left shoulder, do let me know so I can... er... hide."
...All too clearly.

So I left, and I did. Simple, really. "
"I would give anything to have parents that wanted me around that much." Or parents at all for that matter, She thought. "But I see why you did it. Having your life planned out and being forced to stay at home. That life isn't that great."
Amerylis shivered from the cold and hugged her arms against her, trying to get warmer. She cursed herself for leaving her traveling cape at camp. "So what do you play? If your parents wanted you to be a musician, you must be good at it." She said trying to switch to topic to a happier subject.
"They're not all that bad, once you get to know one or two of them"
Amerylis scoffed. Typical man... "Why would I need to get to know one of them? I believe they stick to drunken soldiers who just received their monthly pay..." She said, her words dripping with disgust.
"Trust me when I say most of them are a lot smarter than then let on, and with the right amount of money they can give a man the best night of his life... He seemed to get a bit uncomfortable at that. Amerylis shuddered again. One thing she did NOT wish to imagine was Gildor with another woman. Not that she had imagined him with her. Still just the thought of the diseases he could have. Then she remembered magic. She was pretty sure that he had thought of that aspect. "Gildor, I don't think I want to know more of your midnight liaisons with local barmaids. I will however warn you if I see someone that matches your description. I don't want to be guilty by association. Nor do I want some barmaids thinking I am some common harlot."

"I would give anything to have parents who wanted me around that much," Amerylis told him. Gildor had to choke back a scoff. "But I can see why you did it. Having your life planned out and being forced to stay at home. That life isn't that great."
After living that kind of life for half a century, he certainly knew it wasn't that great. Especially when it was with a psychotic, overbearing, control-freak mother... but Gildor didn't say anything about that.
The subject switched to his associations with barmaids again. "Why would I need to get to know one of them?"
Gildor had to refrain himself from saying something along the lines of, 'Maybe because if you did, you would discover you have more in common with them than you might have expected.' He had a feeling she wouldn't understand what he meant by that, though. Many a decent girl he spoke with took something he said the wrong way before he even got to know their names.
After agreeing to warn him of the specific tavern girl he described, she changed the topic once again. 'So what do you play? If your parents wanted you to be a musician, you must be good at it.'
"Hmph. I doubt it anymore, after near forty years without practice," he stated unenthusiastically. "Aside from near every traditional Elvish instrument, I also played cello, piano, various types of flutes and drums... though my specialty has always been violin."

Amerylis marveled at how much he knew. She could never master any insrument. "A jack of all trades. I, myself, could never play anything. Just sing. But that's nothing special for an elf." She said with a slight smile.
"Where did you learn to fight like that? Even after the tea, I'm still sore." She said, thinking how much her bum still hurt. "In some places more than others."
