Faith woke with a start from sleep her heart pounding. She looked around the silent forest of Du Welvarden wondering what could have woke her. Not sensing anything out of place Faith got up and stretched yawning quietly. She bathed, got into her extra pair of clothes and started he daily routine .Only once Faith had finished going around her daily business did she notice the tugging sensation in the pit of her stomach. It was not the first time Faith had felt this odd sensation but what bother her was how strong it was. The feeling made her want to travel south west, it was like she had an internal compass telling her where to go. With a sigh Faith got up deciding then in there it was tine to leave. The sudden decision was based on the fact that she had been ignoring all the signs for a wile but it couldn't be avoided anymore. So many times she had almost been found by a group of elves going off to battle. That was reason enough for her to leave. But no. Faith's stubbornness has kept her in place in spite of reason. After the elves had gone and the forest was mostly empty Faith continued to live her every day life. But slowly Faith started to feel discontent with the way she was living. What didn't help was the small voice in side her whispering to 'go' and the tug in her stomach pulling her south west. All of this added to the decision she was now making. To leave and go where she was called to.

Faith hid outside the wall of Uru Baen watching the guards and listening to their minds. She had only recently become accustomed to reading the jumbled mass of minds that made up a town or any large group of people. Where she had lived was desolate, the only other life forms had been animals and bugs whose minds were very different to humans. Only now that she had control over her ability did Faith understand the full story of what was going on in Alegasia. In her travels she had pick up snippets here and there. Being next to the Varden for a day of so had proven to be an excellent information source. She now knew about Eragon, king Galbotrox and the rest of the story. Faith was acutely aware that her powers could help the Varden and she planned to do so. She just didn't know how. After pondering for three days on what to do she decided to make herself know and have the Varden do what they willed. Faith got up and strode toward the camp stopping a safe distance away. Then she waited to be noticed.

"However high you fly, the stars never seem to get any bigger," Isrydia said. She was on the edge of the Varden camp, sitting on the grass with her back rested against the flank of a smallish yet fully grown young dragon whose pale blue scales looked like ice.
The dragon, named Arlyn, looked at her lazily with a bright sapphire eye. "I know. The further away something is, the longer it takes for them to get bigger. The stars must be really far away."
"Even further than we thought, must be. But if they're so far away they get no bigger at all even if you get five miles closer to them, how come we can still see them?" Isrydia was speaking aloud, as she preferred to do despite the fact that Arlyn's half of the conversation was purely mental.
"They're very bright. If they are candles or fires of the gods like you think, they might not be made of any fire found in Alagaesia." Arlyn loved these sorts of discussions with his Rider.
"I would love to see that fire. As well as bright, they must be huge, too. Bigger than a dragon. Bigger than a mountain or maybe all of Surda or Alagaesia! Can you imagine that? It must be incredible."
"You should work more on those telescopes you're building once the war's over. There must be so much we can learn by seeing them better. Magic would be able to help us see as far as possible."
"Magic... I'll have to figure out how to make magic work for- hey, what do you reckon she's doing here?" Isrydia cut her own speech partway as she was distracted by suddenly noticing a young woman waiting for something a reasonable distance from the camp. There were plenty of people around Isrydia and Arlyn didn't recognise, but she was watching the camp expectantly, rather than moving and looking around a wide area as a scout would do - not to mention she had no sign of Varden clothing anywhere on her person.
Isrydia pointed out the stranger with her mind, prompting Arlyn to stand up. "No idea, but friend or foe, we should greet them," he said. Isrydia knew a lot of people had been joining the Varden recently and hoped the stranger was one of those rather than an enemy. Iarmailt was at her hip and under her loose clothing was leather armour; these days she didn't go anywhere unarmed and unarmoured. She followed her dragon towards the stranger.
"Hello, my name is Isrydia, and this is my dragon, Arlyn. Might we ask what your name is, and why you're here?" she asked. Her and Arlyn had flung their mental walls up to be strong the moment they'd noticed Faith, so she would have trouble trying to detect anything from them. Isrydia hoped Arlyn would be enough of a deterrent to put the stranger off trying to attack them.

Faith listened to the conversation mentally enjoying the discussion of the world. She frowned as the conversation was cut short as well as her connection. Not wanting to seem hostile Faith let the connection drop but instead talked aloud. "My name is Faith and I wish to keep my intentions unknown until we cannot be listened in on." Many years of solitude had made it difficult for Faith to fluently speak her thoughts. In easier terms Faith was socially awkward. The young girl bit her tongue hoping what she had said was sufficient. "I mean no harm to the Varden." She added being as cautious as she could.

Isrydia had to admit, she found it somewhat suspicious Faith was hesitating to explain her intentions. She and Arlyn thought the stranger ought not to be so demanding when she was so close to the Varden camp, appearing to be a potential threat. They knew of others who might have been far more harsh in dealing with this, in which case Faith would have found herself in an unpleasant situation right now. Isrydia always had been more trusting of people, though since becoming a Rider that had decreased, and for now she was prepared to give Faith more time, hopeful she would be a good person. "If you wish," she replied, then spoke a long string of words in the Ancient Language. No visible change occurred, but a barrier was put up around them that would block sound. It did not use up too much energy, as all it did was stop the tiny vibrations in the air constituting sound waves, but it was effective. "There. I don't know if you understood that, but I just set up a barrier around us to block sound so we can't be overheard. We've on the edge of the camp anyway, so I don't think anyone would have been able to hear us even without it," she explained her action.
"Is that wise? No one will be able to hear if we need to call for help." Arlyn spoke to her while leaving Faith out the conversation.
"We're a dragon and Rider, we can handle ourselves. I can end the spell if need be, or call out with my mind instead." She sensed Arlyn's wariness but he was accepting it all the same.
"Could you repeat that in the Ancient Language? Anyone from the Empire can say they mean the Varden no harm. Do you feel more comfortable to talk about why you're here now as well?" Isrydia asked, prepared to cast more spells or move if need be.
