(So this thread is open to anyone who might want one of their characters to be part of "The Guards" to help protect Alagaesia.)
Well hidden behind a huge mountain of papers on a high arm chair was Camarat. The old Wizard sighed. Just a few weeks ago he was almost completely free save the few petty tasks he was sent to do on behalf of the Wizards Council. Now, looking around him at the piles of paper on his table he stopped for a moment. With Nasuada dealing with a few more personal problems herself, all the work was dumped on him. He thought back to how it had all started. "What am I? An old man?" he said to himself. Well, considering, he kind of was an old man. But that wasn't the point.
"So Camarat, what're your thoughts on being part of the soon to be formed Grand Council?" the Elders had first said to him. The two twins were certainly powerful, but the difference between them and Camarat was thanks to his clear mind he could wield the arcane magic that all Wizards ended up training for better. Plus thanks to his understanding of the other races much better than they, considering he could relate to them emotionally, they preferred he dealt with these kind of things.
"Pardon? I must have misheard you. Could you repeat that?" he asked the Elders, clearing out his ears. This earned him a sigh from the two ancient Wizards. Taking a deep breath, they enhanced their voice with magic.
"WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON BEING PART OF THE SOON TO BE FORMED GRAND COUNCIL, CAMARAT?" they had yelled at him. He rubbed his ears, still remembering it as if it had just happened five minutes ago.
"Okay, I did hear you right. Um, how about no?" he had responded to them, his voice eager to get out of that situation. Sadly, he already knew what was going to happen. He'd be forced into whatever role they were trying to force onto him and he wouldn't be able to stop it.
The Elders had nodded. Scary thing about them was that they were always in sync no matter what they were doing, even speech. "We thought you'd say that. We also know you will anyway. You love the humans and other races too much to abandon them. Plus, we've already nominated you to the rest of the world. Also it seems that they've finally decided. You are to be second-in-command of this new Grand Council. Work yourself like a cart horse, Camarat." they had said to him, voices in complete sync as they waved him off.
His jaw had dropped when he heard that. He was too surprised to stop them from forcing him into a rift to Uru'baen and his own office. What had originally been a very organized office became a mess of papers as Camarat struggled to run all the official business. So far he was more or less on his own. Nasuada being so busy with her own problems, him being second, he had to deal with it.
The first situation he wanted to deal with was the safety of Alagaesia. With Galbatorix's children, he seemed to be having quite a problem keeping up. The four of them were obviously plotting something. He had talked to Anurin and Laetri about their plans for Reru. Also he knew about the other three siblings to gang up on Reru after the Branches swooped in for Reru. Though he wasn't too pleased, he wouldn't make any move to stop them. They did have some claim to the extremely large land that encompassed the Province of Uru'baen. However, he wasn't too sure how much further Aelodil, Ragdar, or Clarissa were going to go. Despite slightly approving of their partitioning parts of Uru'baen, he disapproved of any more shows of force.
So that brought him back to the present. Calling for Murtagh, he had been dealing with problems of the security. Over the past few weeks he had established the thought of a new corps which he named, "The Guards" original perhaps, but it fit. Though he had made sure that none of the people he had picked for the job were any less than the best, he wanted Murtagh to personally supervise the situation between Dras-Leona and Teirm. Other than that, he also wanted Murtagh to hand pick another three Lieutenants to supervise Uru'baen, Gil'ead, and another to help the Spine from being bullied into any submission.
During this time of waiting, he was finishing up some other official business. For one, he was checking the forms Anurin had sent him. Anurin was asking for permission for himself and the other Elders and Guardians to take action against Reru. To do that, they needed to make sure the Grand Council approved of the plan. Though he still hadn't ran the plan by the rest of the Grand Council he was sure they would agree. After all, they knew he could restore the city back to normal in case anything might happen. Putting the form in one of his drawers, he checked the other one. It was a formal request from Aelodil requesting Yazuac and Gil'ead to be formally acknowledged as one Province. Running over the deal Aelodil showed that Yazuac had accepted, he frowned. Though he was glad that Aelodil had used peaceful terms to get his way, he feared more increase in power in Gil'ead. Again, he put the form in the same drawer. Major decisions such as that would need to be passed by at least a few other Council Members.
Turning to the door where he heard a knock he called, his voice strong despite his appearance, "Come in." as he rested his head on a hand propped up on the table. Walking in was one of the two guards to his chambers. Why Nasuda insisted they have guards for his own chambers was beyond him. For one, though the two guards were experienced Riders were strong, they were nothing if a foe powerful enough to challenge Camarat tried to come along.
Giving a polite courtesy, the guard said, "Murtagh has arrived. Shall we admit him?" his voice was surprisingly young. Around 30 if Camarat had to guess.
"Please do. Also, could I bother you any further to ask them to prepare some tea for our guest?" he responded to the guard. Despite his position, Camarat never forgot to be humble. Besides, the guards' duty was to guard his chambers, not to bring tea.
The guard however had different ideas apparently. "At once." he said, bowing very slightly as he hastily turned to ask the servants for some tea. Camarat was glad, though, that the young man treated him with respect.
