The land was steadily growing more treacherous with the cracking earth and the sweltering heat above the Hadarac Desert reaching the small town of Bullridge. Yet it was still one of the last stops before Du Weldenvarden for the 15 year old boy and his small lavender dragon. The pair traveled toward the elven homeland together as a new dragon and rider in hopes of finding one of the elder Riders who could teach them.
On the particular day that they were passing through Bullridge, Chase Warrensson had made sure his swords were within easy range and his dagger would slide from the sheathe with relative ease. He wasn't nicknamed Quickblade and Yellow Flash for no reason after all. Chase could draw his weapons and be at the throat of an enemy within seconds if necessary and while he preferred peace, the boy had protected Therinsford for years before Asuni hatched for him.
Now he strolled through the town, his eyes taking in all the different areas where escape would be feasible. Suddenly he veered to the left and stopped at a merchant's stall to restock his supplies. While paying for the week's worth of vegetables and seasonings, Chase noticed the town get silent. Quietly he looked to the four cardinal directions and caught sight of two street thugs circling a thin and sickly looking boy who couldn't be older than 10 years. They held lengths of pipe and small serrated blades while grinning evilly.
Forgive me merchant, but I will return for my provisions in a second. With that he turned and in two swift motions had drawn both swords and strolled toward the thugs. I suggest you leave this poor boy alone and go home now.
The thugs turned and tried for a simple slash that would have ripped him from throat to groin if he hadn't side stepped and smacked the attacker with the flat of his blade. With that he stepped into their guard and landed a punch to the biggest guy. It was when he fell that Chase sighed and shook his head in disgust. Go now! I am busy and would rather not have to clean up the mess.

Faith had been traveling back from Du Weldenvarden for the second time that year. She now had answers about her past and she didn't like them one bit. She now had to go and travel all the way back to where she was before and then some. Though she had been traveling for only a few days, she needed to get some more supplies. Her trip to Bullridge had been planned. Mostly because she wanted to leave the elvish forest as soon as possible even if that meant not stocking up. Entering the town she dropped her mental shield using that now open power to focus more on searching and control. She was happy to find that there were no powerful beings anywhere near the small town. Leaving it open for her to do what she willed.
Food was important but her first priority was getting a new pair of traveling clothes. Her cloak hid her wings as well as her now worn out shirt and pants. Though she had another pair of clothes with her she preferred to always have two nice ones. Walking into a nearby clothing store she picked out a new pair. She could feel the shop owners distaste for a female wearing males clothes but she ignored it. Instead she found the changing room and went in. Shedding her cloak and clothes her eyes fell to her wings poking out of her back, then narrowed at the dagger strapped to her thigh. Once again she was angry, angry at how unfair life was. Calming herself down she though about what someone trusted had once told her, "This may be a blessing instead of the curse you think it is." she whispered to herself comforted. Faith snapped out of her mood and unstrapped her dagger. Slicing it down the back of her new shirt she put it on and saw her wings could fit through her newly made holes easily. She next tried on the pants and saw that they hid her dagger and made accessing it easy. Well I guess its a deal she thought smiling. Quickly she changed into her extra pair of clothes and replaced her cloak. Walking out she dropped her own clothes onto the counter along with the new ones. She contemplated for a moment whether she wanted to use her money now or later in the day. She decided that now would be better, it would only look odd for vendors to be giving her free stuff and the store that she was in was relatively wealthy. They could manage to loose about three pairs of what she was buying before it hurt them. "You can reuse my old clothe," Faith said motioning to her old ones on the counter. "and please let me have these." she commanded sweetly. The store owner looked dazed before handing them over. They sat there silently as Faith walked out.
Right as she left the store Faith picked up two minds on the outer limits of her powers. She sighed and put up her shields and their minds were gone. I just have to hope they don't come this way she though walking further into the town. Using actual money Faith was almost done with buying her supplies. She walked over to one last merchants stand and was cut off by a boy around her age. Frowning she realized it was one of the minds from before. They had a human mind, but different. Its a rider! she thought exasperated. Oddly enough she found his mind was relatively open.A bit of searching around revealed he was a new rider with his new dragon. Not wanting to cause a scene Faith left them alone. She waited patiently to buy her stuff and planned to leave soon after. At the same time as Chase she noticed the silence. She stayed where she was when he ran off to break up the fight. It was difficult for her to stay put, helping people is just what she did. She watched Chase fight knowing he could handle it but when the second thug went to hit Chase with his back turned Faith snapped. She sprinted over and feigned a punch toward the thugs face. As he went to block Faith kicked low striking him right in the groin. "Hope you never have kids you piece of dirt." she snarled. Normally she wouldn't be so mad, but she could see into their mind. She could see how disgusting they actually were.
(Sorry for the choppiness)

Chase was getting ready to deal with the other thug when he saw him fall to a low shot. With a quick glance, the boy a rather pretty teenage girl who was standing there angrily glaring at the man she put down. In a second, Chase sheathed his swords and bowed to her respectfully. Fair maiden, thank you for the help. I am Chase Warrensson of Therinsford.
He kissed her hand and grinned his charming fifteen year old lopsided flash of teeth. That normally put most people at ease but this girl looked a bit wary of him and silently he cursed. Forgive my lapse in manners. I am a Rider and a friend. I would tell you in the Ancient Language but I don't know it that well yet. To prove his words, Chase told Asuni to land and he showed the girl his Gedwey Ignasia.

Faith bit back a laugh at Chase's introduction. She was still getting used to people judging her first by appearance rather than personality and she was not easily flattered. "It is nice to meet you Chase, my name is Faith." she introduced herself not saying where she was from. It seemed like unnecessary information to her. Hearing Chase's thanks she smiled a bit. "I do what I can to help."
As he kissed her hand Faith resisted the urge to pull away, she had never been the huggy-feely type. "Eka aí fricai un Shur'tugal, its a common phrase." She said quietly so others would not over hear. That was all she said before she spotted Asuni landing. As the dragon landed she saw and could sense fear in the people around her. There was also anger and awe but they were less common. Faith had learned the hard way that riders may have been a common occurrence but people still feared. They had one hundred years of Galbatorix's terror to support their reasoning. Seeing his Gedwey Ignasia she spoke again."I never had any doubt that you were a friend. Be careful with who you show that to not all think the same as me."

It is nice to meet you Faith. I will try to remember that and my Gedwey Ignasia marks me as not only a friend but a protector. Why would I hide that badge of honor now that the tyrant has died? Chase had already put his hand on Asuni's flank and felt her sun warmed scales against his bare skin. It made no sense why someone would suggest he hide his identity. Then a thought hit him hard and Chase slowly loosened his dagger and spoke quietly to Faith.
Few people would know the Ancient Language, you speak with older mannerisms long out dated, your eyes keep scanning the area, and you speak as if you knew the time when Galbatorix was around a lot. Who are you Faith and why do I sense you aren't a teenager like you appear to be?

As soon as Chase reached for his dagger Faith's hand was on her own. Instinctively her stance mirrored his as they stood face to face. Faith had no reason to fight and she knew it. Chase was right when he said that his Gedwey Ignasia was a sign of friendship and protection. Slowly she removed her hand from her dagger letting it slip into its sheath. "I can tell you that I am very much a teenager, just not the kind your used to." That was all she was willing to say with so many inquisitive ears around. She noticed the ragged boy from before sitting near them, watching with wide eyes. She immediately felt bad, all she wanted to do was protect him and she had forgotten. Turning away from Chase she walked the few paces to the boy. Faith pulled out some of her food and her water flask, crouched down, then handed them over. "Take your time eating or else you will get an upset stomach. As for the water drink your fill. I can always get more." she told the boy kindly. She looked over to Chase and got back up. "I'll talk, I have no secrets. Just please not here."

((Sorry for the late reply. Life got hectic around my vacation))
Chase removed his hand and slowly allowed the dagger to sink back into the sheathe with a thunk. He tilted his head ever so slightly to the side curiously and then shrugged to himself. Reaching for his supplies from the merchant's stall and placing enough coin for Faith's as well, Chase walked toward a more secluded inn. It would seem odd for a teenage boy and "teenage" girl to walk into the inn but with enough gold no one would question it. Well Faith, things seem to be rather interesting around you. Maybe this room will be private enough to hear your story. Chase slowly walked around and using some basic spells he learned from a mage, started blocking anyone from eavesdropping on their conversation.

(I understand, sorry for the late reply from me as well)
Faith followed Chase into the in noticing a few glances. She blushed slightly at their thoughts but she didn't say anything. Once in the room she sat at the end of the bed. "Thanks for buying my supplies." she said before Chase said anything. At his comment she nodded. "This will do. There isn't anyone around that would use spell to listen in anyways. Only some curious people." Faith said as he walked around. "As for my story there ins't much. I've been traveling for a wile. I just got back from Du Welvarden actually. I've recently found that I'm some pathetic elf's experiment." Realizing how angry she sounded Faith forced herself to calm down before she continued "I'm part dragon and I age slowly," Faith paused again hesitant to mention her powers. She didn't really know how to explain them. "I also have powers... Its more mental than physical stuff. Mind reading and such." she said trying to down play it. "The ancient language is my first language. I learned your's when I first started traveling."Faith explained herself unclasping her hands and waiting. "Hope that's a good enough explanation because that's all I got."

((Sorry I have been so busy with work, my book, having the flu, and engagement stuff that I forgot to post.))
Chase nodded as he listened to what Faith had to say. Honestly she was cute but in that shy older sister or friend sort of way. He understood why she had been on guard and ready to attack if provoked. Slowly the boy nodded and then spoke quietly. Thank you for telling me. Not everyone has a choice in how they came to be in this world, actually so few do it is scary. So your trepidation and precautions are well placed around this subject. Faith, I must ask you though. Could you hear the thoughts of those patrons below? I caught brief glimpses and they shocked me but you barely showed any discomfort.
For a split second, Chase caught himself admiring the memory of Faith blushing and how he felt protective of her. She was once again in his thoughts as that friend he would recognize the beauty of but never try anything with. Forcing himself to move past the thoughts, Chase realized he hadn't contacted his girlfriend lately. With a half hearted attempt, he sent a mental message to her relaying his situation but leaving Faith out of it. Finally the rider returned to his body and waited for Faith to respond.

Faith was unable to stop herself from blushing yet again. She was happy as Chase pushed the thoughts out of his mind. Just as soon as his old thoughts left a new one replaced it, his girlfriend. Yes Faith knew he had a girlfriend and that made the situation a whole lot more awkward for her. Being unaccustomed to the standard dating culture she didn't know how his girlfriend would have reacted if she was also here. Waiting for him to be done with his conversation she was also grateful of how understanding he was. Most teenagers she had meet hadn't been very open minded. Truth be told she was a bit unnerved by his question. It had taken her a wile to get used to the way people thought of her negative or positive and she still didn't deal with them that well. Having Chase think she was 'cute' didn't help much either. Keeping the casual tone she answered his question. "Yes I can hear them, people just make assumptions. I do my best to not let it get to me, i've been forced to get used to it. I not only have to watch out for those more powerful than me, I have to watch out for those who would take advantage of me." On her journey so far she had encountered many people not all of them were friendly.
(I'm back!!))

(oh dear lord above...)
Chase blinked a few times and then came to the conclusion that she was blushing because of him. With a brief pep talk from Asuni, Chase started to gather his will.
Faith, forgive me. I forgot you would be able to hear my thoughts and I never intended to make you uncomfortable. It's just as a teenage boy I notice when the woman before me is cute or not so much.
Mentally smacking himself, Chase withdrew behind a feeble wall of what amounted to the same strength as paper. He sat in his mind and tried to avoid thinking anything as his face burned red.
