Faith walked along the deserted stretch of land to the south of Urû’baen. She was loosely heading in the direction of the small town, Furnost. She didn't have an actual plan but she made do. It was a bad habit for her. Frequently she wandered out of the city where she lived to travel for days. Faith always came back though, she had no reason to stay away. As she walked Faith was perfectly aware of the bandits behind her and she was pissed. The bandits traveled in and out of Urû’baen frequently under the pretense that they were merchants. And when Faith had exited the city they had followed her out. It was a fairly large group, about seven of them following 20 yards back. She was surprised they hadn't made a move yet and was getting impatient. Faith wasn't in the mood to fight. Yes she could probably handle it but she didn't want to tire herself. All she just wanted was to travel in peace. They really are idiots thinking that I don't notice them. I swear if they attack while i'm sleeping they're in for a nasty surprise she thought bitterly. They had to strike eventually, she wasn't looking forward to it.

A curse was uttered as a twig snapped, followed by another curse. An enormous figure was trying to sneak through what slight vegetation there was. Protruding from the head of this enormous figure was what seemed like two horns. The enormous figure was Urak-Thar. The Kull soldier had finally been retired from the field. After his long years of service for the Varden, he had reached the final rnak of Lieutenant before the war had ended. Now there was little to no need for his talents. He had never been strong with magic, so that was out of the question. His main talents laid as a soldier. So he took it upon himself to act as a guard for the innocent. That brought him to where he was, chasing a group of seven bandits who were tailing a woman who seemed rather exotic. The fact that he could not sense her mind was testament to the fact that she must have been special. However, that didn't stop him from deciding to protect her.
With a loud bellow, he rushed out of his cover rushing head on at the bandits, swiping Crusher in a wide arc. The mace hammered the ribs of the bandits it caught as he heard a sickening crunch. With three of them already disabled on the ground, he turned to the other four as he brought himself to his full height. "Take your pick. You either stand and try to fight which will end up for you the same it did those three. Or you try to run and I make it even worse. Or you peacefully desist and allow me to detain you." he told the remaining bandits.
It seemed none of them were smart. One of them shouted while brandishing his sword like an amateur, "To hell with you, you hulking chunk of muscle! You're a monster! I'd rather die than be detained by you!" and the rest fell in to join. They surrounded him and tried to take their picks at him. Sighing, Urak-Thar easily dodged their strokes and with a quick bellow twirled Crusher around him in a circle, catching all four of them.
He regretted not feeling any remorse at killing them so easily. They probably had wives and children and family. But his years at duty as a soldier had hardened him into what he was now. Turning around to face the woman who seemed to be rather young he gave a curt polite gesture and said, "Hello. My name is Urak-Thar. Former Lieutenant of the Varden army. Are you okay? You seem to be a little lost." keeping his voice polite as he could.

Faith whirled around to face the chaos going on behind her. She stood speechless for a moment staring at the destruction. She knew that she had made a mistake. While focusing to hard on the thieves she did not notice the Urgall behind. If they had been an enemy I would have been dead she thought shuddering. As the Urgall approached Faith was not phased by his appearance, personality for the first thing she judged on. She couldn't help but smile at his awkward politeness. "Nice to meet you Urak-Thar my name is Faith." answering she kept the formalities. "I can assure you that I'm not lost. You cant really get lost if you don't have a destination in mind can you?" she joked smiling. Looking over to the bodies and back to the kull she decided to speak her mind. "By thinking about how those people may have had families, it shows you feel remorse. Even the tiniest amount still counts." saying this Faith sounded sure. She did not say how she knew, she just tried to be reassuring.

Grunting, he nodded. He would have bowed, but his pride prevented him from it. The closest to a bow she would get from him would be a bow of the head. Noticing her smile, he couldn't place why she would and decided to let it drop. No bother pondering on something you don't understand. "Likewise, Faith." he responded, keeping his sentences short in response to her polite response. Urak-Thar had never been a man of many words, but rather a man of action. Shifting his weight awkwardly, he listened, deciding not to talk until prompted. Never had he expected to be put in this kind of a situation. The closest to this kind of a situation he had been was when he had met Isrydia and, with the effort of everyone else, killed a Shade.
"Hmm. Funny you would say that. I actually thought I'd be heading over to Uru'Baen to hopefully join the Guards. That's all I really think I could do to help the people now. Then I noticed you and the bandits so I decided to take a detour." he explained his reasoning so that she wouldn't be suspicious or afraid of him.
His face turning to stone at her latter comment he said, voice cold as ice, "They were scum who deserved what they got. Their families are better off without them." knowing that it was rude of him to say it. His years as a soldier had hardened him, chiseled him into what he was now. Taking out a large bottle from his sack, he opened the wine bottle and was about to drink. Looking at Faith, he offered her the bottle. "Now's your best chance to drink from it - before I do." he told her, knowing once he drank from it everyone would be better off not drinking from it.

Faith noticed Urak-Thar's discomfort and felt a bit bad. She had been doing her best to be friendly and it wasn't working. When he replied Faith felt a bit more hopeful. "I've been thinking about joining the guards as well," she said a bit excited to find someone else who wanted to join. "And thanks for that. I wasn't in the mood to deal with them." she said rolling her eyes. She looked up at Urak-Thar in time to see his face harden. Grimacing at his icy response she replied her voice serious. "Trust me I know. I doubt they even had families. I was just saying that what you felt was remorse." Faith stared at him surprised as he pulled out the bottle. She was even more surprised as he offered her some wine. "I'm sorry I don't drink." she apologized knowing he was being kind.

Urak-Thar was surprised to see she wanted to join the Guards. How was a frail young woman supposed to join, exactly? Then he recalled that he couldn't sense her mind and thought, Maybe I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. He looked at her and raised an eyebrow. "Then I'd imagine you have a trick or two up your sleeve. Don't worry, I won't pry." he continued his policy of keeping his replies brief. Extra details weren't necessary. He nodded and grunted in acknowledgement to her thanks. He felt it his duty to protect the people of Alagaesia, no matter what. It was like being thanked for doing his job - it was weird.
Urak-Thar shook his head to her later response. He felt no remorse. No care in the world. It was strange how he found peace, calm, and serenity even after murdering men in such a brutal fashion. No matter who they were, the fashion in which they went out in was quite something.
Shrugging as she refused the bottle, he put it to his lips, tilted his head back and began guzzling from the insanely large bottle. He recalled how many of this same large bottle it had taken to make him drunk, which was why he wasn't worried. Drinking a fourth of the bottle, he sighed with satisfaction and covered it again before setting it back in his bag.
"Well then, if you don't mind trying to keep up pace with me shall we travel together to Uru'Baen?" he inquired. "After all, no offence to you but it's not safe for a young woman to travel alone, no matter who it may be." continuing in his explanation. He didn't want her to think he was belittling her but all the same.. it was true, what he said.
When you die, your world ends. The world may go on, but in your eyes, the world ends with you.

Faith smiled again at his confusion. "I have many tricks up my sleeve. And its fine, if you're curios just ask. I'm over the whole 'my identity is a secret' phase." she said shrugging. "So, you're not a man of many words are you?" she asked trying to keep the conversation active. It was nice to be with someone again even if they were completely different from her. Sensing his calmness about the murders she glanced back at the bodies and shuddered. When she killed it was always neat and precise, she wasn't used to so much gore. "Maybe we should bury the bodies, or at least move them off to the side," she suggested "I don't want some innocent traveler to stumble upon that." Faith told him knowing how disgusted she would be if she did. Her eyes widened as Urak-Thar guzzled the entire bottle. She was to much of alight-weight to be able to anything like that. She though a bit about his proposal. She could handle herself but company would be nice and traveling with someone like Urak-Thar would ward most bad guys off. "That sounds fine. I should be able to keep pace and some company would be nice." she told him smiling again. It was something she did more often now. She tried to keep her thoughts from straying toward bad experiences she has had while traveling. Though she could get away just fine she couldn't help but think about the women who didn't.

Urak-Thar shook his head in response to Faith. Anything he didn't need to know, he didn't want to know. Not that he meant to be rude or anything, it was just extra unneeded details. "That's a good call. There are a lot of good people out there. I'm sure even if someone would try to do something once they know your secrets, there will be someone to put them in their place." he told her, confidence brimming. He remembered his army unit. It had been a good one. He missed the men and women severely. With hope, they would have gone to join the Guards. However, he wasn't too sure about it.
Snapping back to the present, he noticed Faith shuddering. Quickly, he moved next to her and asked, "Are you cold? I have a few sheets you could huddle in." a moment before she commented on the bodies. Turning to the bodies with a snarl on his face, he said, "No. Men like them don't deserve burials." and went to work. Grabbing the corpses, three in each arm, he tossed them to the side in the bushes. At least let them do something useful with their pathetic life - even if that something is being fertilizer to the soil.
Urak-Thar wiped his hands on his loin cloth and nodded. "Then it is decided. We go north, to Uru'Baen. I have a few friends in the higher ups that could probably make life easier and a lot faster." he told her, once again keeping to his policy on brief talks. Gathering his bag, he began to trot heavily. Being a Kull had plenty of advantages. Namely the increased stamina and muscle. Though he considered it a trot, it was easily fast as most human beings sprinting with all their might. When you die, your world ends. The world may go on, but in your eyes, the world ends with you.

Knowing to join the guard she would have to get used to excessive violence Faith felt a bit bad. She still let Urak-Thar movie the bodies though, she could learn to get used to everything once in Urû’baen. Despite his gruff appearance Faith was quickly able to tell that Urak-Thar was a kind person. She trotted along side him her strides long and powerful. It was a bit faster than her normal pace but she could cope. "Life hasn't come easy to me. That sounds like a nice change." Faith said this thinking of her life in Urû’baen before. It wasn't a bad life but it sure wasn't an easy one. Typical working jobs is what filled most of her days. Having the strength of a full grown man Faith made sure to use it to her advantage. She didn't have an extravagant home instead she rented out a room in a tavern. It was the small luxuries of everyday life that she didn't have but she didn't particularly miss them. Snapping out of her own thoughts she decided to try and get to know Urak-Thar. She could tell that he liked his troops. That's as good a place as ever she thought deciding to start there. "So you worked for the Varden right? How was it?"

Urak-Thar listened, but waited before replying to anything she asked. Life didn't come easy to anyone. Then again, she may well have been through worse than even him. If that were the case, trying to lecture her about how life wasn't easy on anyone would be a bit.. Urak-Thar dropped the subject. He'll explain his reasons, but wouldn't be rude. Noticing her long and powerful strides he was intrigued. No human woman, or man had ever managed to keep up with his pace so easily without magic. Curious, he said, "I don't think you're human, right? Mind I asked if you explain?"
Thinking to her comment about life not being easy he said, "Life doesn't come easy to anyone. It was two years ago.. a Shade sneaked up on the Elven king and his party of Elves. I went to save them with a dozen human knights with me. Of those brave knights only three survived. I wrestled with the Shade, the Elves too far to reach in time to help. With the help of two Human Riders, both still new and inexperienced, I killed the Shade. The cost.. I broke each of my ribs. The bone in my elbow was protruding out of my skin. Life doesn't come easy, no matter who you are. Keep that in mind." for once making his reply a long one.
As if to make up for the fact that he had just given such a long response, he went silent for awhile. The only sound around them were his heavy footsteps thudding against the ground. When she asked about how he thought of working for the Varden, he skipped a beat and lost his rhythmic trot. Resuming it, he stayed silent a little bit with a dangerous expression on his face.
Glancing at Faith out the corners of his eyes he said, "Let me sum it up in one word: Hell." remembering the gruesome many battles he and his division had fought in. Every time he closed his eyes he remembered that moment. Asking Faith, he said, "Have you ever stood in the ashes of hundreds of dead souls and asked the ghosts if honor matters?" his voice dead serious as he relived the many moments in his life he spent fighting.

Faith was silent for a moment. She had never stood surrounded by dead bodies, but she has been where many have died. "I've never been in situation that extreme." she said quietly. His memories swirled through his mind and into hers. Despite the gruesome images she still was determined. "If that's what it takes to fight for the freedom of Alegasisa I would in a heartbeat. I'm assuming the guard will have to deal with things like that eventually." It was a time of peace at the moment but that could only last so long, she'd be around for a while too. "Lets hope the time of peace holds out for a while, for the both of us." she added. Mentally chastising herself thinking the last part sounded stupid. She thought about what Urak-Thar had said earlier and she felt worse. He was was right, life wasn't easy for anyone. Her story was no better or worse than anyone else's. She knew that from the beginning yet she still complained. There was no room for pity parties and she would keep what Urak-Thar said in mind. Faith's emotions were easily masked though she did feel a bit better. Moving on she didn't mind explaining herself to Urak-Thar. "You're right to say I'm not human. I'm part dragon part human so there is some in me. I was raised by an elf so I tent to lean closer to their customs rather than human ones. My strength, speed, and healing also seem to be more elven. I think it's because I was made by one, the magic the elf used probably made me more like them. I also have some physical parts to how i'm human, I have wings under this cloak and scales on my face. I hide them with makeup though. When we get to the guard I'll have to stop covering everything though, the wings at least are useful for fighting. " Faith finished explaining her mind now clear. She still kept her powers to herself, it wasn't something she shared easily.
