This would be the beginning of a new adventure for Galeron. He had never done anything like this in his life, he was used to staying in his room or in Galbatorix's reading countless tomes. He was nobleman, a person unaccustomed to hard work, and all that was about to change. Galeron did not enter the world of a rider unwillingly, magic and dragons greatly interested him. But he needed a mentor, someone that could teach him to harness his inner powers. He had heard that the Lady of Teirm herself wa sa rider. He was not sure whether this was true or not, but he was determined to find out. Lady Clarissa was he name he had heard. Galerons own father wanted to become well aquainted with her as well, in order to gain some foothold in Teirm.
As of now, the sun shone on Galerons face blinding him from the destination ahead of him. He strode his stallion closer to the walls of buildings. Once he fell under the structures shadow he could see where he was headed. He could see Teirms main building just a a mile or so away. It stood above the countless houses that dotted the coastal city. The closer and closer he got the stronger the smell of salt became. Then he heard a rustle come from his undershirt, and then a sneeze, one that sounded like that of an infant. Galeron looked through the openening for his neck on his undershirt and looked at the small, silver jewel of a dragon. It looked up at him with blue eyes. He quickly squeezed through his shirt and stuck his head out. The world entered through his eyes and reflected back a blue that matched the color of the sea ahead of them. Galeron wanted to keep the dragon a secret but the creature seemed intrigued by everything. By this point Galeron was tired of having to look after him so much, so he let the small dragon peer at the world without caution. If anyone said something about a hatchling undearneath a boys shirt, no one would believe them. Galeron looked above and saw his eagle high above scanning the landscape. He extended his mind and told the bird to return to him. The bird dove down at great velocity, then slowed down a hundred feet above the ground. She glided downwards and landed on his masters shoulder. Galeron entered the birds mind and saw a recollection of her memories. Her sights gave him routes to take in which he could avoid the unecessary attention of guards and such.
The young rider dismissed his bird, and approached the main building. He hopped of his horse and tied him to a wooden post. Galeron shoved the hatchiling into his shirt even though it fought to get back outside. Galeron approached the pair of guards and said "I'm here to speak with Lady Clarissa. I believe I have something that might interest her."
One of the soldiers raised an eyebrow and looked at the sword on Galerons back.He responded "We're not about to let an armed stranger walk into the Ladies own building." He scanned him up and down "Noble or not." He added.
"I thought it'd come to this." Said Galeron sighing. He reached inside one of his pockets and pulled out a coin purse that was stuffed "Would this help?"
The second guard looked at the bag in amazement, with one hand he placed a hand under the purse and raised it up and down feeling its weight. The first guard shoved his compnion and said "No it won-"
At that very moment the hatchling sprung out from Galerons shirt and ran inside the building, the two dumbfounded men were shoved aside by Galeron as he rushed inside to capture the dragon. The young nobleman ran and slid on this knees, trapping his dragon between his feet. He pick him up with both hands before looking around again. The two original guards stood with pointed spears at Galeron, while another two had their swords drawn. They circled around the boy and his dragon ready to attack at any moment. One of the guards shouted "Lady Clarissa! Theres an intruder... with a... Dragon?"

Clarissa was busy scouring through yet another stack of yellowing documents looking dor tax issues. Her hand was running lightly over the smooth material of her whip just as a guard started yelling. With a sigh, the lady of Teirm stood up and wrapped the gold whip around her wrist once more.
As the woman moved towards her door she reached her mind out and looked for Vervada who had been going hunting only an hour ago. As her mind brushed against the mind of her partner, Clarissa conveyed the commotion going on and then walked down the hallway. She glanced around and then unwound her whip once more and snapped it across the path of the spears and swords.
Lay your weapons aside now! This is Galeron Aeda, distant relative of Galbatorix and therefore my cousin. If I see one mark on him then I come for you all and we start the interrogations.
Just then the room billowed with wind as a great multicolored dragon swooped down and landed in the dragon perch. It was one of the only areas Vervada could safely travel in the building but she wanted to see what was going on. The trouble that follows you is never ending my rambunctious partner. Bring your guests to the perch and we can finally speak to them.
Clarissa reached down and went to help her cousin up. Her gedwey ignasia shined as she did but she knew that no one would dare hurt the lady of Teirm.

"Cousin?" Murmured Galeron. As the guards parted he looked uppon Clarissa's face. It was familiar, he had seen her countless times at Urubaen he had even dined with her. She was known to have a reputation as fearsome as Galbatorix's himself. He took the ladies hand and stood back up. He brushed the dirt of his pants and picked up his dragon. It was not until then that he realized yet another dragon was ahead of him. She looked extremely graceful, and had a blue hue like no other. She looked light, nimble, and all at the same time strong.
Galeron followed Clarissa to the perch and then he gave a graceful bow to both her and the dragon. "Lady of Teirm, Vervada, I did not expect to find you here. After the siege on Urubaen, I thought we went our seperate ways. But fate is a strange thing." One of the guards came back, he tapped Galeron by the shoulder. The rider turned around, and the fat coin purse was dropped into his empty hand.
The guard then said "Excuse me, I had no idea you were of royal blood." He bowed and took his seperate way. Galeron clamped the purse to his belt with one hand, and once it was able to rest on his waist he began to stroke the dragon with the same hand.
"You must be wondering why I'm here... Or not. This dragon recently hatched. So I needed a teacher. And luckily that teacher is my own cousin, if you accept of course."

((This won't be as good as I wished. My back has been acting up and so I am having issues concentrating on writing for very long))
Clarissa laughed, a soft melodious fit of giggles that rang through the stone hall like a bird singing. So this was her youngest known cousin almost all grown up and looking strangely handsome. Still it was nothing like when she looked upon Aelodil and spoke to him.
As the woman thought of her cousin who was older, she blushed a light pink and averted her gaze for a second. No sense in reminiscing on those memories.
I am lady of Teirm, Ragdar is lord of one of the neighboring provinces, Rerukusu claimed Uru'baen, and Aelodil took the province north of me. Galbatorix may have fallen and the Empire fractured but there is no shortage of his family in places of power. If you wish to be my student then you will stay here. Either in this building where you can study day or night or you can live in the lavish estate next to mine and I will have the passage between the two reopened. It has been awhile Galeron. I am proud to see that another of my blood is a Rider.
Clarissa grew quiet as her thoughts went everywhere. Yet Vervada was not going to be ignored. Greetings, blood of my partner. I have heard of your family branch from Clarissa and must say you sound like a fine promising Rider. Although what my illgotten partner forgot to mention is that while we can teach you of the same as the Empire we will not be a part of an uprising like that again. The Riders are at peace for the time being so you will not be good or evil, black or white. You will be trained in both types to become that of the grey middle ground.

( No worries. So if you don't mind me asking, why does your back hurt? I've had a couple of family members that have either had skoleosis or a disk out of place. They tell me it hurts like a -)
PS I keep on forgetting to bold and italicize.
A smirk grew on his face as he beheld Clarissa candid laugh. When she informed him of his family he gave a slight sigh of relief. He hadn't recieved word of his relatives since the Battle of Urubaen. But aside from that it made him even gladder that they all held posts of power. It fueled him with hope for the restoration of the Empire. When Vervada entered his mind, it reminded Galeron of the one time Shruikan spoke to him as wel. Shruikan overwhelmed Galeron, it was the mind of a creature thay was so distinct that it frightened him, not only that but the sheer power behind his thoughts was incredible. Galeron had never spoken with a dragon since then, but now it felt less alarming. Vervadas voice was gentler, and Galeron knew what to expect. Halfway through Vervadas speech though, Galerons dreams of a new Empire shattered. Galeron had to see whether any of his other family members agreed with this philosophy. For now though he kept his mouth shut about the subject and simply replied "Verywell".
If none of his family members agreed to uprise then it fell upon Galeron to take the lead and make the Empire whole again. To Clarissa he said "I would not mind staying here, but I suppose my family would like to stay in the estate for the time being. The plans for a new settlement father is having made are not complete. I do expect that having my dad close at hand will prove useful, cousin. He has a way of making money...appear. That's why uncle kept him so close." That was not the complete truth, but a truth none the less. The reason Galbatorix had kept Garen so close was because he knew that Garen was a weapon. Making money was his specialty, and Galbatorix knew that if he wanted to keep Garen loyal to him then he would have to entice him in some way.
Galeron continued "Once the plans are finished I expect he will move over there at once. But not to worry, he won't be too far from Teirm. But let's talk about the matter at hand. When will my training begin? Studying the ancient language without being able to use magic became quite tedious." The boy was ecstatic in truth, but he did not show it. He wanted to seem proper, at least until he and Clarissa became accustomed to each others company. The boy was usually not a person of formality, but he had been taught otherwise. He felt a quick jolt of pain as his companion scuttled down his arm, scratching his gedwey ignasia. The grey dragon went to Clarissa sniffing her feet. Then stopped and looked around. He spotted Vervadas tail and playfully chased it. He clumsily pounced on it and ran up her blue scales, he ran across her wing and then jumped on a space next to her on the perch. He mimicked her moves. The young Rider couldn't help but laugh at that.

(Hereditary lower back issues. My family is all over 6 feet tall with the same build I gave Brenton, Konner, and most of my other characters. We suffer from back, knee, and heart problems.)
Clarissa watched the younger dragon scurry up to start mimicking Vervada. It reminded her of when Vervada first hatched and did the same with Shruikan and Rerukusu's dragon. A small smile appeared on Clary's face but she didn't laugh for she knew all dragon hatchlings wished to be as big as their older race.
Training to be a Rider is never fun. First I have to test your skills in combat as well as speed, dexterity, impulsivity, reflex, knowledge, and intuition. A true Rider can call upon all of these things so I have to know what areas you struggle in. For combat, speed, dexterity, impulsivity, and reflex I will put you in a duel against my guards. They should be about your skill level.
Clarissa whistled two notes and a detachment of armed guards entered the room. They saluted her and then stood at attention while she examined them with a critical eye. You will all duel against my cousin Galeron. He is a Rider student therefore may use magic on instinct. I expect you to fight to win but there will be no deaths today. Use your weapons and no more than two at a time.
Vervada looked over at the hatchling and hummed in joy. Child I should only be slightly bigger than you right now if not for spells cast upon me at hatching. You will grow to be a fine dragon someday.

(That sucks. Since my family is Puerto Rican we're all short. Apparently heart problems are a common thing in my family. Get ready for a long post btw.)
The dragon hadn't spoken since he hatched, yet his first words were "Thank you". Galeron sighed, sword fighting was what he was weakest at. He had never combat trained under Galbatorix, the reason Galeron believed that Galbatorix didn't put him through such rigorous training was because if he came back to Garren with cuts and bruises, his father would leave Urubaen. That was Galerons theory at least. The guard look at him and said, "Right this way sir." They led him to an open yard where a few other guards could be seen training as well. There were some dummies as well as targets for archery. One of the guards looked at him expectantly. He was young, in his prime, about eight winters older than Galeron.
The other looked like a grizzled veteran, he had a fully grown, grey and black beard that was shaven all the way down from his lower lip to his lower chin. He had a single scar across his upper left eyebrow. The younger soldier, that had brown hair and black eyes drew out his blade from a nearby sword rack. The blade was dulled, and so he put his sharpened blade on the rack as well. Galeron knew it was time. The Rider pushed on the tip of the scabbard outwards and pulled on the grip of the blade with his right hand. He freed Avifidril from its sheath, revealing the mirror like blade. It was a spectacular sight to behold, yet because of this Galeron did not feel worthy of weilding it. He knew today he most likey would embarass himself, be he didn't mind, he was a Rider now, with enough time and training he would become a force to be reckoned with. Galeron had read many tomes on sword fighting, and had been taught the basics by his father. But he had never sparred like this before.
He ran his hand along the edge of the blade, he uttered a spell to make his weapon dull, but failed, he tried again and was surprisingly successful. Though the drain on him was much greater than he expected. He felt a bit light headed but them returned to reality. He assumed the proper fighting stance and said "Now" Galeron held a defensive state until the guard would lunge at him. Once the young soldier did, the Rider sidestepped and parried, then counterattacked with a blow aimed to the guards right shoulder. The man backed away from the blade before it could touch him. They both circled around each other until the man once again became impatient, his blade clashed with Galerons, sending a shudder across his arms, then Galeron pushed the blade in a circular motion, moving the guards blade close to the ground. Once it was close enough, Galeron knew what to do, he stomped on the blade, sticking it on the ground, and then placed Avifidril gently between the mans shoulder and head. The guard smirked and backed off.
What the Rider did was risky, as well as dishonorable. During that fight, he was evenly matched with the guard, if not for his quick thinking the spar could have ended in his defeat. Next was the strong, black and grey haired man. The boy was already tired, he imagined he would have to resist the bulky mans strikes, yet he doubted he had enough strength to do so. He reached out his mind to his sword and felt the copious amounts of energy flowing inside of Avifidril's diamond, he shook his head slightly and decide against drawing energy from it. As much as he wanted it. The guard assumed the ready position, as did Galeron. This time though, his opponent seemed to be more patient. He had observed Galerons attacks he was smarter than the last man, and this intrigued him. They circled for thirty seconds, neither of them attacking.
It made for quite a boring match, but the boy already had a trick up his sleeve. He glanced up at the sky, but as soon as he did the guard attacked. The boy had barely enough time to react, and raised his blade up to his face, cold steel was inches away from his face. The old man withdrew his blade and struck three more blows, all parried by Galeron. They then resumed to circle each other. Each minute that passed they seemed to swing at each other five or so times. This carried on for about fifteen minutes until Galeron decided he was ready for his attack. He circled and circled until he stopped, the sun was right behind him, blinding his opponent.
Galeron attacked, yet the warrior knew of his attack, he managed to clumsily parry Avifidril, and then knock Galeron behind him with a strike from the back of his pommel. As the pommel imacted his back, he felt pain spread out throughout his back. He quickly turned around not worrying about the pain in thw moment. Now Galeron and the guard were at opposite ends... exactly what the Rider wanted. Galeron attacked once more, his blade was blocked by the guard, and their swords bit in to each other. The rider had not realized that the blow the man had parried was so strong that it broke the spell on Galerons sword. Yet as their swords stuck together, Galeron took the chance and angled his blade ever so slightly, directing beams of light that reflected from his blade onto the mans face. The guard stumbled back, and Galeron desperate to end the fight swung full force at the man. His sword got lodged in the mans torso, cutting him deeply. It did not kill the man, but he gasped and dropped his blade. The man took off his mail shirt to reveal the wound, it was deep, and blood poured across his entire body and down go his legs. Galeron sheathed his weapon and sprinted to the older man. He yelled out in pain, Galeron, ripped off a piece of cloth from the mans pants and applied pressure to the wound, "Clarissa!" he shouted with his mind.

Clarissa, having been watching the match for most of the time, already knew of her guard being injured. Because of that she was next to his side pressing her hands to the wound in a second. Waise heil The woman muttered along with a spell to deaden the pain and stitch together the muscles that were torn.
When the blue light died away she looked upon the pinkish skin and shook her head in amazement. This would be one difficult training if Galeron couldn't even manage a simple spell for that long. Clarissa stood once more and held her hand out to the old guard.
Take a break, Erik, we can handle this from here. But m'lady, Darius is a new recruit and can't be expected to take a Rider by himself. Darius is closer to his speed than you. You only lost because the spell was weakened but there is no reason to beat my cousin to a pulp today. Go rest or I will order you on leave.
Clarissa watched as Erik left and then turned to the Rider sword. With a muttered spell, she dulled the blade herself and tied it to the energy stored in the diamond. Then she motioned for Darius to resume fighting.
As Clarissa walked away she smiled because the youthful guard was already behind Galeron with his sword at the ready. This would test the boy more than anything else would right then.

Galeron took a breather for a minute. His arms already ached from the strong blows from each guard. From what the Rider had seen Darius was stronger and faster than Erik, but lacked experience. He also noticed that he, himself, was extremely out of shape. Galeron was used to studying in his chambers, without doing much physical work. He raised up his sword and both him and Darius began to spar. Unlike the matches with the older man, these sparring sessions were shorter and instead of being a test of endurance, they were a test of strength. They exchanged victories, Darius winning more and more each time. He was learning Galerons moves, and took advantage of his superior strength and speed. Sometimes he struck Galerons sword with such force that he broke his block, and managed to hit him.
The more Galeron lost, the more tired he became. It was just due to lack of training. A couple or days more with Darius and Galeron would be evenly matched. The sun was starting to set, and both of them began to tire to the extreme. Darius hit Galeron with a flurry of blows and managed to hit his hands. Galeron dropped Avifidril, and Darius took the chance to thrust at Galerons chest. The boy stumbled back a bit before falling on his left arm. He got up and crouched, panting. Darius was in the same state, just a bit less injured. The soldier said "That should be enough for today. You're not bad Galeron, you just need a bit more practice."

Clarissa could see where Galeron was weakest now. It wasn't his skills or motivation. He had spent too long as royalty so never worked for anything. He was out of shape and severely lacking in being able to keep up with most swordsmen. For that reasons she deemed it necessary to have him train like this every day for a few weeks.
Galeron would wake up and spend an hour meditating. Then two hours learning the Ancient Language. Next he would eat midday meals. An hour of dragon care. And 5 hours of physical training with Darius. Whether that meant he went on patrols with the guard, sparred, or helped with whatever else. It didn't matter.
Galeron I have your training decided. Each day you will follow this for up to one month. Then we will reevaluate your skills at that point. If you are still so far behind then you will have to work as a city guard next to Darius and undergo their training until I say otherwise. Clarissa told both of the youths her schedule for Galeron and then walked inside to sleep.

Galeron nodded, but deep down he felt a sigh coming up. It sounded like a such a drag, why put so much pressure on him? Why not just normal relaxed classes. Right now he just felt like getting it over with. Either way it didn't sound like anything that would be too hard for him. With enough sword practice he could pass, through the month, maybe he could find a way to slouch off during the time he had to study the Ancient Language, he knew the language well already, he just needed to build up his magic a bit. Meditating sounded nice, so did dragon care, the five hours of sword training are what really bothered him though.
There was no rush, and five hours every day for at least two weeks could already make him a pretty formidable foe. He'd show Clarissa then, show her he wasn't just some weak noble that trained with Galbatorix for nothing... But it sounded so arduous at the same time. "You ready to teach her that we're not some wash ups?" said Galeron to the namless dragon. The small hatchling responded "You betcha." Galeron smiled, he picked up Avifidril, sheathed it, and gave Darius a soft, friendly punch on the shoulder, "Seems we're going to be spending a lot of time together."The soldier nodded and gave a smirk. Galeron put he hands behind his head and said "I'll be telling dad the news." He began to walk away with the young dragon trailing behind.

(Hm I may go ahead and time skip one month just to conclude this. There could be a few more posts after the timeskip as well.)
It had been one crazy month for Clarissa, teaching Galeron the finer arts of the Ancient Language since he already knew the basics. Yet she was proud of her cousin for it seemed he had only been lacking in physical attributes.
The female dragon rider was eager to see how Darius had trained Galeron so she walked outside to the guard house. It was empty which meant the woman would have to find them. Expanding her mind out, Clarissa could feel the presence of Darius on the walls. He appeared to be concentrating on last minute instruction in siege tactics.
With a smirk, Clarissa muttered a spell and used the energy in her jeweled ring to propel up to the ledge. She needn't take the stairs if she could be up there in seconds.
With stealthy movements, Clarissa slipped behind a stone alcove and observed the two. It looked like Darius might be leading into a spar on the wall in a few seconds and she wanted to see how Galeron fared.

Galeron was looking up at the sky with Kyr before Darius had said "Galeron come, it's time for the daily practice."The Rider followed the guard, but the entire day he had not seen Clarissa, as he had expected. No doubt he believed Clarissa had found a way to observe Galeron without him noticing. Darius lead the boy to the the yard and drew his sword, Galeron did the same, and the muscles he had built throughout the month rippled as he gripped the brightsteel sword. Kyr observed from farther away, the silver scaled dragon had grown larger than Galeron, soon he'd be able to ride Kyr. Galeron had decieved Darius all the way through his training, he hadn't shown the soldier his true moves, this way he could assure himself a victory. Galeron had kept the movements he read about to himself, and thus made him more unpredictable this fight.
Before the spar started Galeron dulled his blade with a spell. Then, when both were ready the Rider lunged at Darius like nothing he'd done ever before, he attacked in a flurry, and when he saw and opening he thrusted his sword. The match was over as quick as that. "Well, thats new...again." He raised up his sword and both lunged at each other exchanign vicious blows, then when Galeron was on the defensive he began to halfsword, effectively grabbing the blade and controlling his weapon better that way. He defended flawlessly, and struck Darius quickly in the thigh, making him fall to one knee. Darius and him continued to spar, Galeron had much more stamina by the end of his training, as well as strength. For every match Darius won, Galeron won four. Galeron was prepared for this day and was not ready to go back to training. When Galeron beat Darius once more, he shouted "Clarissa, I know you're watching! Why not give me a real challenge?! Bring Erik!"The boy had grown cocky from his victories. Maybe Erik could actually control him, and settle his ego down. Kyr sighed and extended his mind, finding Clarissa nearby "Please, excuse him, he's drunk on victory."

Clarissa growled at the insolence of her pupil who demanded a challenge. She reached to her scabbard and drew her twin katanas in one motion having them in both hands. She sneered at his remark and unclasped the cloak around her shoulders.
Challenge? Then you will duel me. With that remark, Clarissa whipped her blades around in a flurry of movement towards Galeron's throat. Her tactic was to get him to back track until he was against the edge of the wall. Clarissa leapt into the air and brought her swords down at his shoulders in a brutal strike meant to sever the arms in a real battle. As she did this she was already touching the ground and pushing back to flip backwards away from Galeron.
There was little chance he would survive in a real fight against her so she would have to pull her strikes a little earlier than normal sparring matches deemed necessary. With practiced ease, Clarissa was already crouched and ready for an offensive from her student.

Galeron was surprised by her speed, and at the fact that Clarissa wanted to fight him in the first place. She successfully pushed him up a against a wall, but when she brought her blades down, he put his greatsword up horizontally. He grabbed his blade and braced for the impact, when the the swords clashed, the pure force from her blows traveled across his arms. He saw her gracefully backflip, and smirked. She expected him to go on the offense, should he? It seemed like a good strategy to let hear go on the offense and wear out.
Yet she was a Rider, no doubt she knew her limits, so Galeron decided to go on the offensive. This time though, he'd play it carefully. Galeron grabbed the leather ricasso on his sword, this would give him better control and speed, then he took one long step forward and began to give quick thrusts. At this distance his greatsword came in handy, her katanas were too short to reach him. Yet it seemed like everytime he attacked he would get no where, and when she attacked there was a big chance he'd lose. Frustration was welling up inside him.
The silver dragon looked at the two fighting, it was clear that Clarissa had the upper hand, she was much older than Galeron and had more expirience, but his Rider was putting up a good fight. In the midst of combat Kyr said to Galeron alone "I think it might be time for that spell you've been practicing." Something in Galeron told him to use the spell, but he didn't, not yet at least.

Clarissa nimbly dodged and parried each thrust, using the least amount of energy each time. To prove this would never beat her, Clarissa began to make her moves more drawn out and flashy. Just then the Rider realized she should end this soon.
So Clarissa began to examine the entire scene, her tactical mind already forming a plan to slip past Galeron's advantage in reach. The best way took more energy but was far faster.
So she sprinted to a parapet as Galeron was behind her, drawing upon spells woven into her boots to lend her even more speed. The half grey folk woman jumped and pushed off against the stone to flip behind Galeron. Her arms were already moving as she placed her one katana against Galeron's back and the other around the front of his throat. Few experienced soldiers could break this maneuver without being fatally wounded.
I win, Galeron. You still have much to learn and practice. Clarissa smiled warmly at Darius who walked forward to help explain how Galeron lost and what he did wrong. It wasn't like the boy had been bad with his weapon. He just focused too much on using the reach of his weapon which left him little room to improvise.

Galeron froze as the blades stuck to his skin. He sheathed his sword and gently moved the blades aside. The Rider should have listened to his companion when he told him to use the spell. "You were right." said Galeron to Kyr, then he replied " Aren't I always?". The grey dragon skipped his way towards Galeron and put his head under the Riders hand. The boy laughed and grabbed the dragon by the neck scratching him behind the ears.
Kyr gave a deep hum of pleasure. Galeron stopped as Darius approached and listened to what he had to say. Merely because the guard lost against him didn't mean that he couldn't point out his mistakes. He listened closely and replied "I got cocky, I'll admit it. And theres definitely things I can improve on. But I've only had a month to train, where as you've had time period longer than my life to train, Clarissa. No matter what, I wasn't expected to win."
