The lie known is known as tenderness, and truths that don't want to be heard.
Never feeling like you belong anywhere takes it's toll on anyone, Reru in particular. Being a half-elf he has the blood of two races the elves and the humans. Often times he is mistaken for an elf due to his semi-pointed ears by those who don't know the elves well but the elves wouldn't see him as one of their own. For Reru is Galbatorix's son and sides with the Empire neither which the elves are willing to support. It goes to show that elf or human ignorance and intolerance reside in both just like the mixed blood in Reru.
As a result he often hides the tips of his ears with his blond hair and trying to appear more human than elf. Though always being mistaken for someone you aren't he finds quite insulting and hurtful. Few to none ever recognize him for being a half-elf and perhaps the fault is his own for hiding his heritage.
But not everything is hidden or difficult to find the truth in about him. The mark of his gedwy insignia makes his dragon rider status quite obvious to any who know it's meaning. The silver-lavendar sheen of the crescent mark is one he will never hind or disguise though the dragon who gave it too him is no longer with him. A insignia that over time changed from what it once was but is no less cherished.
His pale skin is flawless with no traces of scars or any other blemish. Though he was once covered in many scars one that even marred the entire length of his right arm. With his skills in magic he sees no reason to permit such trivial woes of past injuries to leave him marked. Fairly often those around him forget his prowess in battle presuming that one with no obvious battle wounds would have little experience with a sword. But they would be quite wrong in thinking so. The strength inherited by the elves runs through him as well as many years of battle experience. His speed, agility and endurance are well beyond the average human and though he may lack strength compared to an elf most humans will still find him difficult to match. Those who insult him or challenge him often come to regret it.
Trained in hand to hand combat at a young age he often dresses in loose clothing preferring his movements to be unrestrained by armor. He often relies on his magic instead to further enhance his abilities and protect him from attacks. No matter the occasion formal or not he often has a purple sash tied at his waist or around his upper arm. A choice he made to honor his fallen dragon, Avendel Myshera.
There was no others in his life there ever really understood him. She knew his pain, his hopes and his sorrows and weathered them all at his side. His rider blade, aiwicotai that matched her vibrant purple scales is almost never with him. Without his dragon at his side he sees little reason to use the sword that once served them both. Instead he uses a thin delicate rapier imbued with magic, it's name Ueyato. A sword that was a gift from his father Galbatorix. An ancient blade that has magical properties that he doesn't fully understand and has yet to uncover it's full range of abilities.
Personality
As long as the two of us treasure the idea of being together, even if it's unreasonable
for me to be needed by you
for me to be needed by you
Loneliness is perhaps the hardest burden to bear, one that Reru has known for longer than most. Reru has never felt as though he belongs amont hte humans or elves. Though given that he has never met another half-elf that leaves him with very few places he doesn't feel alone. While he likes to think there are other half-elves out there he knows none of them. While his father has different goals from him staying at his side opens up opportunities for him to inherit the throne. He wants to create a world were half-elves are accepted rather than having to blend in and yet never fitting in and for that matter all races. How else to do so than if everyone was the same then no one would be left out. But making that happen takes far more power than he currently has but staying by Galbatorix's side could lead him to the power he needs.
While his ambitions are what drive him now that wasn't always what he wanted. Despite being rather arrogant and unwaveringly determined now he had a much softer side when Avendel was alive and at his side. Even if it is just one other who makes you feel that you belong, that can sometimes be enough. For Reru it was as he was much more at ease knowing he had someone who understood him, would look out for him and listen to him. But since her death he has felt nothing but loneliness.
To build a world where everyone is the same and belongs and to revive Avendel are his only goals. Little else matters to him beyond that often resulting in others as seeing him as cold and uncaring. He keeps his goals to himself as well as his many thoughts. Which is likely for the best as he views Galbatorix's plan to control magic as flawed and weak, something that if voiced would not be a welcomed opinion even by his own son.

History
Maybe if I were better at lying. I could fool myself into believing that.
History is rarely remembered as it really was, so it's no surprise that few know this. Many know that Galbatorix, my father, killed Vrael at Edoc'sil (now known as Ristvak'baen) but fewer know that 15 years before that he had a son. Reru was born in a small town called Kirtuan, which was a elven outpost near the edge of the forest. The town had been captured by the Empire, specifically lead by a member of the foresworn, Formora, Reru's mother.
Little is known of the relationship between Galbatorix and Formora. Perhaps it had been her reason for joining the forsworn but whatever the case was a secret she took to her grave. Being raised by a dragon rider and a member of the forsworn they seldom stayed in the same place long. Following the King's orders often led her into danger but leaving Reru behind wouldn't have been any safer of an option. So he stayed at his mother's side unaware of who his father really was until he was much older. Constantly on the move as a child left him feeling like an outcast never really fitting in with human children or elven children.
Formora may not have been the most nurturing but she kept Reru safe. Her brown dragon, whose name is lost to history, was quite fond of him and was often tasked in keeping him safe when Formora got into conflicts. While he was young there should be more memories of that time but the memories are sparse and just out of reach. For Reru's memories were altered and blocked by Galbatorix's magic.
What Reru mostly remembers is the training his mother gave him. It was what elves would consider simple things how to control magic, shield your thoughts from all but select few and how to survive. Those days wouldn't last long as his mother went after Oromis and Glaedr around the time he was 15. It was one of the few times he hadn't gone with her and feared he wouldn't see her again but it was for Oromis and Glaedr he should've been worried about well if he had actually cared about them. For the two of them were dealt quite serious injuries by his mother.
Less than a month later his fears of her not returning would come true as she joined the forces against Doru Araeba. She nor her dragon would return but he didn't need to wait to know that. She had given him a necklace with a metal figure of a dragon. It had been magically enhanced to sense her and her dragon's life force. So he knew when she perished as the eye of that metal dragon closed forever. All he had left of her was a rich purple dragon egg she had left behind. She had claimed the egg was from Shurikan and her dragon though the truth of that was never determined.
It was then that Reru learned the truth of who his father was as Galbatorix took him to Uru'baen to live in the main castle with him. Having no prior relationship with him before now left a rift between them. If his father had cared at all for him why wait until now to tell him or even meet him? It was a rather pathetic excuse and their relationship never had any warmth. Deep down Reru believed it was his half-elf nature that had kept his father from even caring about him.
But Reru wasn't to be alone for long as the egg his mother had gifted him hatched and he bonded with Avendel, a small purple dragon. A name which once had a connection to his mother's dragon but which was lost along with his memories. In a cold world the small dragon was the only one who really could understand his pain and his loneliness. Where Reru saw his only friend, Galbatorix only saw the potential of training another rider. His methods were rough and often left scars both physically and mentally. There was little room for errors and only room for strength.

Quite some time passed and Reru and Avendel remained in the service of Galbatorix and the Empire. The only acceptable answer was to follow his father's every order even as that lead Avendel to her death. They were no match for Brom and Saphira and Reru was helpless as Za'roc stole Avendel's life away. While Reru's life was spared perhaps in sympathy or by the arrival of another empire rider he doesn't recall. In that moment he could do nothing to save his dragon. Avendel loyal to the end transferred her soul to her Eldunari but it was imperfect and the stone cracked. It could not hold her soul.
Desperate Reru used a forbidden magic similar to that of a shade to bind the Eldunari to the stone on the hilt of his rider's blade. It was enough to keep her soul contained as he forged the gem and the Eldundari together. The spell wasn't perfect as it slowly consumes Avendel's life force and after a time prevented her from even speaking at all.
Consumed by rage and grief Reru locked himself away refusing to speak to anyone. Isolated he experimented with magic with no head to the danger it might pose to him. On multiple occasions it did nearly kill him only for him to survive through Avendel though voiceless lending what little remained of her waning strength. Terrified of loosing what little he had left of her he ceased his wreckless experiments instead channeling whatever magic he could spare to her to sustain her life.
He was quite certain that there had to be a way to save her and as much as he loathed it he turned to Galbatorix. Healing his scars with magic he sought to hide any weakness from his father even if it was from the past. Through his father's resources and vast library Reru came up with a plan a way to transfer the soul of an Eldundari into a living dragon. It would kill the host but what did that matter if he had Avendel back?
Finding a host, a new dragon, proved far more difficult as none of those in Galbatorix's care wanted to hatch for him. That was until he made them bend to his will. His new dragon was a lighter shade of purple than Avendel had been but she would do. He named her Kamikura and bent her to his will using her true name against her. He would not be betrayed or loose his opportunity. But transferring Avendel's soul would take a great deal of magic that he nor Galbatorix had. The right time and opportunity would come one day and when it did he'd be ready.
