Vedrit stood at the edge of the easternly town, the sun still high in the sky, looking north, though with nothing to search for. He sometimes did this, this pointless gazing. It was definatly focused, not like gazing into the abyss as some did, but focused and intent, as if expecting somehting. Sonya lounged not far, waiting for her Rider to do something, long given up the fight to get him to do something willingly. An irritated growl flowed through her scaled body, her white scales blinding in the birght light of a day still young. Though she couldnt get Vedrit to do anything without grabbing him, she grew impatient at his own patience. "We dont even know what we wait for." She said, not bothering to hide her irritation. "Should we?" Came Vedrits reply "Ofcourse. A bird awaits the dawn so it can see its enemies and prey. Do we wait for time to pass over us and crumble us to dust?" "If that will put you to rest, then yes." "I might take the job from time and end this pointless waiting." Sonya snapped. Vedrit had only recently started spouting things she would expect of an ancient elf. While, in most instances, it was something to work towards and hope for, but in this case, it irritated the wisdom right out the dragon.

The flight from Du Weldenvarden south to Surda was not one of peril. No enemies, no natural obstacles, nothing that could hinder a dragon and his rider's progress. However, S'il was not a man who liked to fly for too long. A large blue dragon flying in a clear sky drew too much attention for him to be comfortable. Even the reassurance from Kail that there were no enemies around -- no one that could spot them that would be interested in inflicting harm upon them. Irregardless, an Elf stripped down to the rudimentary elements of survival was extremely cautious, and his safety was not about to be compromised. They took short breaks, but at a constant rate that drastically furthered them from a quick arrival time.
Now though, they were flying south towards Surda once more. Along the way, they had a conversation. That was rare. Neither S'il nor Kail were very social, even with each other. However, this time was an exception. It could be excused with the fact that their conversation was relevant to their matter at hand.
"So now we just run to the coaxing hand of our master," S'il spoke with a hint of bitterness in his voice. "What faithful pets we are now."
"Yes, and to make it worse, I'm stuck with the most pessimistic, thankless partner in the whole of Alagäesia. If either of us room to whine, it's definitely me." Kail's sardonic wit was starting to find a comfy place in the heart of S'il. The bitter Elf found Kail to be quite amusing at times.
"You're lucky you have me. Otherwise, we would be volunteered for every foolish mission that we have pushed upon ourselves. We would be exhausted! Instead, we're handling things at a comforting pace," Then, S'il did something surprising. With a bit of wit he continued without a voice that didn't seem to have a razor edge on it. "Besides, you had no problem with being my partner when you were begging to do this mission with me, instead of solo."
If Kail could roll his eyes, he would do so now. "Yes, but I regret that decision considerably."
S'il could stand no more kidding however, so he turned the conversation back to a more serious tone. "So what are we suppose to be doing anyway? I kind of was losing concentration during the briefing..."
Kail snorted with amusement and a puff of smoke emitted from his nostrils. "We are to meet someone in Surda. A dragon and her Elf rider, actually. We have something in common."
"As if that was taken into consideration when we were assigned this mission." S'il had a way of making the most innocent of statements sound like well-placed retorts. "So we're just meeting them, or..?"
"Well, if you had been paying attention you would know, S'il." Kail's response was very quick, and was so defensive, it caused S'il to catch on.
With a half-smile, S'il spoke, "You weren't paying attention either, were you?"
With indignation, Kail blew smoke from his nostrils. "You have no room to say anything!"
With that, their conversation concluded. They were very close to Surda now. As they covered the remaining ground, they found themselves both in deep thought about what their mission would entail...

Vedrit took a deep breath, though he didnt really like the dry heat of Surda, and found it somewhat refreshing. The question of what he was waiting for had started to work into his mind. What was he waiting for, truly? He had spent a large portion of his life waiting for something, something in particular, even when occupied with some great task. Sonya, ever attentive of thier link, sensed this. "Now you have an inkling of what its like before hatching." she said with a tone that said 'told ya so' Vedrit somewhat ignored the comment. He had heard Sonya complain about the countless years waiting to hatch for him, and him alone. At first, it honored him, then it annoyed him. Now it goes half heard. "Tell me Sonya, what you wait for, beyond today. Beyond me moving from this spot, beyond the moving of the sun." Vedrit was restraining a smile as he said it, the depth of the statement seemed to be strange on his own ears. Sonya didnt reply, but rather watched the northern sky, following an object that had suddenly drawn her attention, and ehr silence caused Vedrit to look towards what she was watching. Curious, Vedrit stood still, watching intently as what ever it was drew nearer

"We're being watched," Kail's growl was barely audible, seeminly being overwhelmed by his statement.
"...and you're surprised? We are one little thing in a big blue expanse heading towards a city with a heavy population." S'il seemed to have picked up some of Kail's wit. His semantics were quite similar to Kail's own.
"You're really getting on my last nerves." This couldn't be any further from the truth, as Kail was a big dragon, and he had a large quantity of big nerves. 'Getting on his last nerves' would certainly be a hardy task. Even for someone as infuriating and impossible as S'il. "Well, brace yourself."
"Why? Your landings are about as rough as a making a nose-dive towards a lake."
"Aw, thanks." Kail was laughing again. When he stopped, they were making their descent. "And I wasn't talking about bracing yourself for the landing... I think we're going to have a welcome party."
"Right. Assume that I'm prepared." S'il was starting to get serious again.
"With you, assuming is the way to find yourself on the wrong side of a blade." Kail chuckled again. When he stopped, they were on the ground. S'il jumped off Kail's back, and was met by the intimidating sight of another dragon, and its rider. Well, intimidating for those who were not use to the sight of dragons...
S'il studied the other Rider intently. He was an Elf like S'il, and was a male. He appeared to be very young -- and assuming the age of an Elf was a tricky business, but S'il didn't have any doubts about a large age difference between the two. The other Rider's hair was a shiny shade of brown too. It appeared to be clean, unlike S'il's hair which was auburn, but a bit dry from lack of cleaning lately.
The two were clearly not very similar at all. S'il had doubted the chances of being able to cooperate with this individual before meeting them. After these observations though, he was certain there was no chance he would be able to cooperate with him. This certainly was going to be one hell of a ride for both of the two Elf Riders...

Vedrit stood stoically, his face blank, Sonya only moving her head as she watched the dragon land. "Is this why we wait?" she asked Vedrit, who only reply was a mental shrug. Vedrit examined the Rider as he left his dragons back. The elf seemed to be very travel-weary, and Vedrit could only wonder where the Rider and dragon had come from.
'Take care. We know not who they are.' Vedrit needlessly told Sonya through thought. Ofcourse she would be careful. "Find out so we can stop waiting and tip-toeing. And look at him. He is an elf. He would have to have fallen far to betray his queen and kin." Sonya replied
"Forgive me if I skip the pleasantries of our race and skip to the introductions." Vedrit said to the Rider, and waited for their names, knowing that it could be turned into a battle of wills and wit. Vedrit had no intention giving his name first, and knew Sonya was of the same disposition, though names were of little consequence when they can be easily falsified. There was something of a comfort in not giving ones name first, whether it was his own or not.

S'il hopped off of Kail's back with ease. He landed on the ground and an inaubile bump caused the dust that had set on the ground to be caught in the air and float around S'il's feet for a bit. He saw the other rider whose indifferent look suddenly turned to one of apprehensiveness.
S'il pushed a auburn lock of hair from his eyes and behind his ear as he watched the other elf rider step towards him. He flashed a smile, but it seemed distant he was sure. That's how most of his greetings seemed. He still wasn't fully there in social matters. However, he was getting comfortable with such instances -- albeit with little progress.
"Forgive me if I skip the pleasantries of our race and skip to the introductions." S'il didn't revel in the traditions of the Elves, and he was surprised that this other Elf was willing to skip them as well. It wasn't often that you found Elves who could care less about such things. Usually, everything had to be orthodox for the Elves. If something was a bit different, they isolated themselves and grew uncomfortable.
S'il recognized that about his race early on. They were a fearing race. Their lack of willing to commit to anything, their overall lack of interest in things was really their demise. Elves were like bureaucrats -- they were more interesting in the little details than the grand scheme of things. Perhaps with such long lives, you became reliant on such little things and worried about them more in hopes to seem a bit more normal.
What was a forgotten formal introduction in the grand scheme of things? Nothing. However, for the Elves, it detailed another Elf as either being ignorant, or foolish. For S'il, it detailed another Elf as being prompt and that's what really mattered in this world. Squabbling over foolish introductions and matters such as that wasted everyone's time.
"Right. I'm S'il and this is Kail. You're obviously Varden, or else you would be attacking this city, or at least recognized by now. I'm obviously Varden too. So your obvious suspicion of my intents is foolishly placed. I also don't care who you are. However, I was informed I needed to meet you here, and you're going to tell me why. Now."
S'il spoke with the gruff tone that was uncommon in his race. For most Elves, a melodic voice was custom. Perhaps it was all the years of seclusion and adaption to the wild. S'il, who didn't see the rudeness of his blunt and careless ramble was quite pertrubed as to why Kail was cleaning up for him.
Kail extended his awareness to engulf the other Elf and his dragon too. When he spoke, his voice echoed in all of their minds. "I apologize for my rider's behavior. He is inept in social interactions. Well, so am I, but at least I'm trying to improve. Regardless though, I ask that both of you forgive him for me, and that we can start off on a good foot. So, to start over new. It is an honor to meet both of you. I am Kail and this is Drästysu, however most people call him S'il."
S'il snorted and glared at Kail. He spoke to Kail only, "Right. You just made me look more like an asshole."
Kail's awareness retracted from the other Elf and Rider to only embrace S'il. "No, my friend, you did that to yourself."
S'il just shook his head in disgust as he waited for the other Elf and Rider to reply.
