I'd definately like to RP Murtagh, he's my favorite character, and I always made up my own story on what was going on with him whenever he wasn't in the canon. Do I need to form a profile for him, or is there one already? One thing that I would like, however, is to make a whole new account for him, since he's such an important character, he deserves his own little signature and everything, plus it'd be hard to post back and forth, especially if he and Fadriendel were in a thread together.
Let me know,
Fadriendel

Sounds good to me. Player of the month and all makes it okay, I think. Uh... check the accepted chars, there's already a profile. Either say you want to take that or modify as is. I THINK there's a profile already... can't be too sure though.

Murtagh

If you don't mind terribly, I'd like to use that, but i'd like to go a bit deeper than that. Let's get to the meat of it, shall we?
Full Name : Lord Murtagh of Uru'baen, Son of Morzan the Terrible
Other name : None
Race: Human Rider
Side : Empire
Birthplace : Urû' Baen
Age : 19
Gender : Male
Birthday : 11th day of the Full Moon. (November 16 in 2005, the year Eldest was released. I don't know why I used this day, I just felt right.)
Eyes : Light Brown, Fierce and determined, yet with a shadow of despair
Hair : Mid-length brown hair that frame his stoic face.
Weight : 180 lbs (maybe)
Height : 6' 4"
Magic User : Yes
Clothing : He normally wore mostly worn clothes, leather and cloth tunics with a dark green cloak. However, now under Galbatorix, he is the Lordly figure we was born to be. When traveling, he wears the exquisite white and gold tunics and pants of Galbatorix's court. His battle armor is finely crafted and moves easily with him as he fights.
Preferred Weapon(s) : He no longer carries the battered Hand-and-a-Half sword that he normally used, but the sword Zar'roc now is constantly at his side.
Personality : Murtagh is an extremely intelligent and ambitious young man. Due to his constant exposure to danger during his youth, he can easily gauge out his situation and attack it more easily than many at his age. Because of this, however, he is very mistrustful and remains wary even of his closest friends. The only person he completely trusts is Thorn, his Dragon companion.
Murtagh is cool and ruthless, showing little to no mercy for his foes, but he still has a minute soft spot for his brother, Eragon. Due to the heavy tampering of his mind by Galbatorix, where he moved, removed and edited some of his thoughts and memories, he tends to have an almost scizophrenic personality change, depending on his mood and the current circumstances. He can turn from himself, the quiet, but kind Murtagh, to a cold-blooded, murderous Forsworn that Galbatorix has created within his mind.
Also, since his True Name is in the clutches of Galbatorix, his true persona can be completely stifled and replaced by whatever one Galbatorix dreams up. In these situations, Murtagh has no recollection of what he has done, until Galbatorix routinely adjusts his memories to include his new crimes.
Likes/Dislikes : Murtagh likes power, which is one of the reasons why he was able to manipulated and changed by Galbatorix. He likes and dislikes Eragon, his eager, youthfulness was a breath of fresh air during their travels. He also likes the Varden leader Nasuada, or he did, before Galbatorix obliterated his tolerance for her. He dislikes, no, hates the Varden and everything they stand for, and has vowed in the Ancient Language to kill them all.
Family : Father: Morzan (deceased), Mother: Selena (deceased), Brother: Eragon Shadeslayer
Brief History : Murtagh's mother, Selena, was born and raised in Carvahall. Her whole life was thrown into chaos when the Rider Morzan came through town. She fell madly in love with him, and abandoning her duties as a daughter and soaring to Urû' Baen with her prince on Dragonback. Morzan was not in love however, he was in lust with her body and her mind, which were both useful for him at the time. She became pregnant, and after the strong baby, christened Murtagh, son of Morzan, was born, he was given to a wet nurse to be raised, so Selena could continue to be Morzan's sidekick without being troubled by the unappealing job of motherhood. Morzan grew thicker 'round the middle as he tumbled deeper and deeper into Alchoholism. One evening, as a three-year-old Murtagh was heading to the dinner table, Morzan, in a fit of unprovoked drunken rage, threw his sword, Zar'roc, at the boy and slashed open Murtagh's back, severing his spine and nearly killing him. It took a team of the Empire's most skilled healers, at the request of his mother, to save the child's life.
Selena, who was now pregnant again, feared for the second child now growing inside her, and fled. (I have no idea why she didn't save Murtagh, as well, but that's Paolini's problem, not mine.) She secretly went back to Carvahall to live with her brother and his wife. He refused her at first, but the dormant love for his baby sister resurfaced and he took her in. Five months later gave birth to another boy, whom she named Eragon before exhaling for the final time. Morzan was shortly after killed in battle by Brom, the rider. Meanwhile, Murtagh grew up in Galbatorix's castle without a father, where he raised himself, after his mentor Tornac, who taught him how to fight with a sword, died.
When he was finally seduced by Galbatorix's lies and called upon by him to eradicate the rebels in Cantos, Murtaugh disliked the King's sudden switch from kindly ruler to ruthless dictator, so he planned to escape. He and Tornac made a frantic escape from Urû' Baen, and in the process Tornac was killed. After that, he hid and heard rumors of the King's disturbing assasins, the Ra'zac, searching for someone. He decided to follow them, and met Eragon. He traveled with Eragon to rescue Arya the Elf, and meet the Varden. He initially refused to go to the Varden, but when faced with an army of Kull and the Varden, he chose the Varden. he still wonders today whether he would have been better off with the Kull. He was immediately arrested and placed within a secure cell within the City-Mountain, where he would stay until the coming battle. He excelled in combat, saving the Varden's leader, Ajihad from certain death countless times. Just after the battle of Farthen Dûr, Ajihad asked Murtagh to be part of his honor guard as he marched to the rest of the Varden, before he made his victory speech. They never made it, however. Ajihad was killed along with the rest of the honor guard by Urgals. In the confusion, Murtagh and the Twins were captured.
Murtagh soon found the depth of the deception he faced. The Twins were untied and led the Urgal host themselves, releaving to Murtagh that they were traitors of the Varden and were taking him to Galbatorix. He fought, but one well-placed spell the pair of them and Murtagh awoke a week later in the warm bed he once vacated in Galbatorix's palace. He looked around to see the King himself at his bedside. His head was in terrible pain, and he felt strangely open; Galbatorix had invaded his mind and extracted all information he had kept secret. Murtagh tried to run, but he was too weak, and Galbatorix pushed him back into his bed.
"What do you want from me? You've already taken everything I know, just kill me. " Murtagh said.
"I want you to be my Vassal, as you were born to be."
"Never."
"I'm afraid you have no choice..." Galbatorix said.
He then said a name. It rang with ultimate power, and Murtagh felt himself succumb comepletely to it. It could only be his True Name. Galbatorix withdrew a round, shining, red stone from his coat and handed it to Murtagh, who took it without question. Almost instantly, the Dragon Egg cracked and shattered. A tiny Red dragon rested on his lap. Murtagh looked at it blankly, and with further instructions from his King, touched the dragon's nose with his left hand, marking Murtagh as the newest Rider.
Galbatorix lowered his cursed face to the dragon and hissed a odd word. As with Murtagh, the dragon's gaze went blank and he looked up at the King.
"You will grow fast. Every week for you, will be a month." he said.
Unnatural magic flowed through the Dragon's body as he was forced to defy the laws of his own race. Before their eyes, the dragon flexed and grew a few centimeters. Galbatorix awoke both from their trance. Murtagh and Thorn both were shocked to be in each other's companies. During this time, the Twins would periodically visit Murtagh and tear his mind asunder, extracting any new data learned from his bond with Thorn. It was excrutiating, and the Twins did all they could to keep it that way.
As time went on, Murtagh and Thorn began to form a strong bond, even though it was an abomination. Thorn grew quickly, and he and Murtagh joined Galbatorix and the harsh taskmaster Shruikan in difficult training. Murtagh, some by his choice, most by command, learn some of the most powerful and deadly magic ever to be known. He learned to twist and manipulate the language to his will, in order to be able to cause tremendous damage with a single word. Murtagh still, even with Thorn, found days where he missed traveling with Eragon, and even tried, without success, to scry for him.
Eventually, when Thorn was full grown and only a few months old, Murtagh was suddenly made ready for war. The Varden were massing a force in Surda, and Murtagh would be leading the troops into battle. Not surprising Murtagh, Eragon would be among them. Dread filled Murtagh's heart at the thought of facing his friend in battle; Thorn tried to soothe his pain, but Galbatorix soon arrived in person to stick a finger in his wound. He informed Murtagh not only that he must capture him and Saphira and bring them back to the palace, but also, almost as a side-note, Eragon was his brother, and the youngest son of Morzan the Terrible.
Murtagh was devastated, but his grief was cut short by a harsh command to fly by his master. Murtagh left, his sorrow surpressed by the sheer power of Galbatorix's influence, and followed the marching troops south to Surda. When he arrived, Galbatorix informed him telepathically to wait before enagaging Eragon. As the battle began to fall to the enemy's favor, Murtagh took flight and attacked the dwarves, killing their King with relative ease. By this time, Galbatorix's use of his Name was beginning to weaken, and Murtagh was able, to a degree, control his actions. He defeated, and teased the weakened Eragon, then revealed their lineage.
Eragon's shock and pain shook him, and it took all of his strength to fight against his orders, and leave Eragon there. He and Thorn returned to Uru'baen, where they were punished severely by Galbatorix himself. New spells and commands were forced upon them, making it all but impossible to disobey Galabtorix at any time. Their own hope to escape him would be to die, or find someone more powerful than Galbatorix to remove the carefully knitted magic. Thorn and Murtagh, however, found strength in their bond, and managed to keep their identities.
Anything extra : He rides the dragon Thorn, who hatched for him in Galbatorix's palace.
Dragon Profile:
Name: Thorn
Age: Just over 1 year old
Gender : Male
Eyes: Shining Vermillion
Scales: Deep Bloodred
Wing Membrane: The color of wine under a lamplight
Claws, spines, and teeth: White as snow, and sharp like new swords.
Personality: If Murtagh is the side of Intellect, Thorn is the side of Emotion. He is the base of sanity in Murtagh's insane world. He is not as powerfully affected by Galbatorix's magic, but since that is all he knows, he rarely has any need to disobey him. Murtagh and he tend to argue, then make up, about things, since their personalities are total opposite.
Thorn feels Murtagh's smothered sorrow, but does not understand it, since he does not know anything about his past; it was forbidden by Galbatorix for Murtagh to reveal where he was and what he was doing before Thorn hatched. Thorn tries constantly to keep Murtagh in line and out of the line of Galbatorix's wrath.

...What? This is clearly for Murtagh, who is clearly a boy. Read the title, read the conversation. And if you're still confused, go read the book again.
