Meg flew over the trees of Du Weldenvarden on Jasper's back, her auburn hair blowing in the wind as she scanned the area for any signs of danger. Her senses were acute since she was an elf, and since there were two pairs of eyes looking out for danger, one of which belonging to a dragon, she would be aware of any threats. She shivered as a breeze hit her, and clutched her cloak tightly.
We've been away too long, Meg mused.
I understand why you wouldn't want to go back. Jasper replied soothingly.
Phillip, Meg's former lover, had lived with her in Ellesmera. After he died, Meg couldn't so much as look at the city. She had been doing missions for the Varden alone ever since. Her vision blurred, and she realized she was crying.
You don't have to go if you don't want to. We could turn around now. Jasper suggested.
No, I'm being foolish. I'll go. Meg did want to see Ellesmera. It had been her home for years. Her family had lived in the city for generations. She hadn't seen her mother in years.
We'll go together. agreed Jasper.
A few moments later, he soared over the city. Meg listened to the cheering crowds as Jasper touched down on the ground. She twisted her hand over her sternum in the elves' traditional greeting and started making her way through the crowd. She felt awfully nervous, and wasn't fond of the fact the people were treating her like some type of a hero. She was never one to ask for attention.
Yet here it is. She thought.
Well I don't know about you, but I enjoy attention. Jasper hummed in satisfaction.

"Again, please tell me why we are here." Sonya asked, barely hiding the irritation as she and her Rider Vedrit flew over the trees of Du Weldenvarden
"You know how I love trees. And being in the desert for so long, with those wide open areas tends to leave me feeling....alone." Vedrit said as he looked at the canopy of green rushing away below, "And why not here? The home of my people?" There really wasnt much of a reason for him to be here. The Spine was just as good as Du Weldenvarden, if more dangerous. Ignoring the wind as it buffeted his clothes and hair, Vedrit pointed to an opening in the canopy before Sonya could reply "Thats a good spot." Vedrit said, completely unaware that it was just on the "outskirts" of Ellesmera. He had been to this forest rarely, and so he hardly knew of its layout, where cities were and such.
"And what are we to do here? You know elves dislike killing of animals, and eating of them. While I may be excused from that, I know you like a, quote, 'rough meal, hearty with meat.'" Sonya commented as Vedrit slid off.
"Do you think that no animal dies naturally in these woods? I dont like playing scavenger of nature, but I will not offend my kin by spilling blood for my own hunger." Vedrit replied, "And whats with you lately? All you've done is pester poke and prod at everything I do. You need to relax just as much as I do."
"I pester poke and prod because, while you are my Rider, my life is bound to yours. I value my life, and therefore yours. It is my job, as your companion, to take care of you, and make sure you dont do anything stupid."
This was starting to annoy Vedrit. Allot. "And what can I do here, under your watchful eye, that will get me killed?" he asked calmly, trying to sooth Sonya. He could feel there were unspoken words.
"Just leave it." She replied and turend away from him, "I'll be back by dark" Sonya added before taking off

Meg sighed and plastered a smile on her face as she talked with yet another elf about the joys of being a Rider.
"I'm sorry, but it is getting late and I must retire for the night." She told the elf after a while.
"Of course, Shur'tugal. Atra esterni ono thelduin."
"Mor'ranr lifa unin hjarta onr. Good night." Meg replied. She couldn't believe this. She comes home and she's mobbed by crowds.
What did you expect? You're a Dragon Rider, remember? Jasper reminded her.
Yeah, you're right--it's just--nevermind. Let's go. She had already visited her mother, and it wasn't too late. She climbed onto Jasper's back and smiled as he took off.
Do you see that? Jasper asked.
See wha- Meg gasped as she spotted another dragon in the distance. She quickly put up defenses around her mind and put a hand on the hilt of her sword. She knew the Varden had other Riders, but one could never be too careful.

Being so deep in the forest, neither Vedrit nor Sonya were worried about attacks, and so neither had defences or were searching for hostilities, and were completely unaware of the other dragon and Rider, until Sonya turned and saw them. But still not worried. "Oh look, another dragon and Rider." Sonya said to Vedrit, who was walking the forest, and sent a mental image.
"Be nice." Vedrit lazily replied, turning around to walk to where Sonya saw them. He had a feeling that the dragon and Rider would stop and converse, for lack of better word. Out of habit, though, Vedrit raised barriers in his mind. There were some habits that just cant be broken.
(Sorry for the short post...I couldnt think of what to type)

Meg looked down to see a male elf looking up at them.
He must be its Rider. She thought.
She waited for Jasper's customary response, but then she remembered she had put up her defenses. "Jasper, can we land?" She asked aloud. She really didn't want to say anything, but she knew they'd have to meet sooner or later. She just hoped he wasn't going to fawn over her incessantly like other men did.
The purple dragon flew lower, and then finally slowed down and landed in front of the man. Meg's violet eyes wandered around the woods, looking out for any possible threats. She was aware of the dragon flying over them in the sky. Meg gracefully got off of Jasper's back and approaced the elf casually, touching her fingers to her lips.
"Atra esterni ono thelduin." She greeted him politely.

With an internal sigh of slight annoyance at such pleasntries, Vedrit replied as best as he could remember, touching his fingers to his lips and saying "Atra du evarinya ono varda." with a slight bow, Sonya landing behind him as softly as she could. "So, what brings you two to this part of the woods?" Vedrit askedm leaning back against Sonyas white scales. "Arent you concerned about being impolite?" Sonya asked him privatly. "Not at all. I was raised away from Elven society, and so I hardly know what to say when." he answered, not letting anything but calm greeting show on his face. "You didnt even ask for names. Atleast as that." "It can wait."

"Just visiting family." Meg replied. "And yourself?" She asked curiously.
Aren't you forgetting something? Jasper asked her. She resisted the urge to smirk at the annoyance emanating from him.
You're quite the attention seeker. She responded amusedly.
"This is Jasper. I'm Megara. You may call me Meg if you prefer."

"Just getting away from the dust and heat of the desert." Vedrit answered, as he hid a pang of guilt at remembering how long it had been since he had seen his brothers. A year wasnt that long, but considering all that had happened, it felt like a century.
"A pleasure to meet you, Jasper and Meg. This is Sonya, and I am Vedrit." Came his reply, flourished with a small bow from both.
"How long do you intend to stay in Du Weldenvarden?" he asked, though truly not all that interested. Hurray for disinterest [/sarcasm]
