A leaf swooped up by the wind carried a few feet before it landed on Talon's face. As the leaf met his skin the man's eyes slowly opened.
Talon had completed his last mission just the previous night. the task had fatigued the magician ergo he was in need of a lot more rest than usual, he hadn't planned on sleeping in so late, but he couldn't change that now.
Sitting up the mage stretched and looked around surveying his surroundings, not exactly what he remembered from when he had set up camp last night, but he had been pretty drowsy at that point. From his position Talon could see no other person in sight although he wasn't too far off from the city gates. Hungry Talon decided to clean up camp and make himself a late breakfast, he would see what was to come next in his day once he finished his meal.

Kelran always hated this city. It was so easy to get lost, mugged, or killed, not that any of those had happened to him. And always having his mind guarded. It was such a change from Du Weldenvarden, he wondered if he would lose his mind.
"Why did I come to this miserable place?" He mumbled to himself, making sure his hood was drawn low, knowing how much the elves were liked in the area. Though he wasnt for the Varden, he didnt really like the Empire either. He preferred to stay out of the whole mess. The reason he was here was because someone had mentioned that Dras Leona was a beautiful city, full of wonder and awe. The only wonder Kel could find here was how it remains as a functioning city.
Wandering the streets, he somehow found the gate, "Most things are better than this." he again mumbled as he walked through the gate, leaving the city.
He tried his best to ignore the quote, riff-raff, as he heard many guards call them, and try to walk as a human would, but was sure he was just too elf-like.

Just as Talon had finished scrubbing his bowl clean and packing up everything that had been his camp when he gazed over at the city gate. Walking out was a figure in a long white cloak, with a hood that covered his face, immediately Talon figured the being was trying to hide something and curiosity got the best of him.
Picking up his pack the magician decided it was a perfect time to head out and meet this being. He had a long trip ahead of him, no point of starting it off alone and boring, that was how it was suppose to end. If he was really lucky this person would be heading the same way as him for a good chunk of time.
As the stranger came near Talon casually headed back on to the road, his eyes watching the being with a friendly smile the whole while. "You seemed to be in a hurry to get out of there. Hiding from someone or something?" He asked now walking in sync with the hooded figure. Usually one didn't start a conversation with such intruding questions, but there wasn't anything usual about Talon.

Kelran noticed someone getting up and heading towards him, 'Great....trouble.' he thought. 'I knew I should have used the brown cloak.'
Cautiously, Kelran sent a small tendril of thought towards the man, wondering his intentions, not reaching the man until after the two were walking side-by-side
"The city is...uncomfortable." Kelran answered, again trying to sound like any other human. He had no intentions of giving away who he actually was, or lying, as the humans call it. Nor did he plan to say what he was doing, which was going back home.

Talon was quick to put up his barriers as he felt something reaching for his own mind, his block went up and he chuckled aloud as he realized it had been the man standing next to him. Obviously this was no ordinary citizen of the Empire. Looking him up and down Talon began to wonder more about this man, if there was a secret he was hiding, Talon was going to make it his mission to discover it.
"Agreed, but something tells me that isn't the only reason you left the cirty. I promise I can keep a secret, only you and me out here." Talon said giving a wink to the man.
"You can probably take that hood off too, I don't think the guards can make you out from here." He added looking back to make sure they truely were far enough off.
Something seemed fishy about this fellow, but something told Talon he wasn't working for the Empire, still he would be cautious until he knew for sure, keeping his hand on his waist, right next to his hilt.

Kelran felt the barriers go up, 'So he's trained.' he thought was he withdrew into his own mind. "It might not be the only reason, but its the biggest reason." Kelran said, trying to side track the man, "This hood hasnt left my head since I've stepped into the sun." which was somewhat true. True enough that it could be said in the ancient language. Since he left Du Weldenvarden, he's had the hood on. "And what of you? Why arent you in the city?" He asked, trying to turn the tables, soo to speak. Speaking of guards, Kelran couldnt help but look back, not that he thought that he might be followed, but one could never be too sure.
((You have no idea...this place has been kinda dead, except for Ark and his demented posts, lol))

Adjusting the pack on his back Talon dipped his head to try to get a hint of the man's face, no use. For a moment he wondered if he was putting himself in danger, by talking with this hooded figure, but quickly the thought was dismissed as he decided to try for some humor.
"Well you know I have a hood of my own." The human said pulling his own hood over his face. "I usually only let it adorn my head if I'm hiding from something though. I wonder does the sun burn your skin? Or do you think I would be less fond of you if I knew your identity?" Talon finished giving the man a more serious glance.
Returning to himself he decided he'd answer the question truthfully. Talon's eyes searched the sky as he thought of a good answer that wouldn't reveal too much of what he had done.
"I just had some business to handle. Although I too don't really care much for the city." Talon answered with a smirk on his face, he quickened his pace trying to make up for the hours he had slept in that morning.

Kelran watched out of the corner of his eye as the man pulled his own hood over his head. "The latter is the most likely." He replied. Its not like he knew the man next to him probably often worked along side elves.
Again glancing back, careful not to let the man see his face, Kel noticed that they were quite a distance from the city. Even if soldiers were notified, they would have a considerable gap. "So whats you view on the whole war situation?" Kel asked, curious of the mans political position. Pro-Varden tend to be friendly to Elves, and it was getting a bit warm under the hood, "Allot of people say things go badly for the Empire, and other say things are even worse for the Varden."

Talon nodded at the man's answer, at least he had been honest. Pondering on the subject Talon wondered what could be under that hood that would change his opinion of the man, nothing came to his mind. Talon remained in deep thought on the subject until he heard the question adressed to him.
Slowly his hand slid down to touch the hilt of his blade. At this point he would find out if this man was friend or foe. He hoped he was friend because Talon very much enjoyed having someone to talk with as he traveled.
My view? Well anybody who isn't a friend of the Empire is a friend of mine. Talon's grip on the hilt got tighter as he carefully watched the man ready for whatever his reply would be. He didn't expect to have to draw his weapon, but he wasn't sure since he still knew very little about this being.

Kelran studied the man for a moment before slowly reaching up and lowering his hood, revealing his light brown hair and tipped ears, "Then we are something of friends." he said, relieved to find he wasnt walking next to someone who wanted to take his life.
After a moment of quick thought, he decided not to say that he wasnt part of the Varden, as many of his kind were. Some people were crazy.
"Its good to be out of that blasted place." Kelran said vehemently, "May it be burned to the ground."

Watching the stranger remove his hood Talon relaxed and even gave a grin noticing the pointed ears that made the being friend and not foe. He gave the elf a pat on the shoulder as he sighed relieved that he was walking with a fellow enemy of the Empire.
"That we are. Now that we've got the alliance business out of the way, where are you headed? Oh and forgive me for my rudeness, I'm Talon." Talon knew the elves had their own way of introductions, but he was unfamiliar with them so he removed his hand from his hilt and put it out to shake the elf's hand.
Talon now looked forward to his journey, he was going to hold on to this companion for awhile even if it meant a detour to his own destination, it would be worth it if he had someone to chat with along the way. Meeting new people under these circumstances was a common thing for the magician and he enjoyed it, every once in a while a fresh face, meeting people from all parts of the land, it was one of the reasons he was so open minded.

Kelran was somewhat familiar with the humans form of greeting, and took Talons hand and shook it.
"Kelran. As for where I am to head, I have no idea. I came only for sightseeing, but, as I said, I was sorely dissapointed." He said with a friendly smile, "What of you? Where are you bound?"
It would have been nice to have some company, where ever Talon was headed, after so long of hiding and silence. Since he himself had no where to go, maybe he could accompany Talon.
A quick thread of thought wondered what exactly Talon was doing, and if it were for the Varden, but quickly dismissed it as non of his concern

After a second of thinking about it Talon realized that Kerlan was an elf and elves didn't usually talk as much as he although Kerlan was doing a great job keeping up, the fact shocked the young man. If he were to convince the elf to continue traveling with him Talon was sure he could get a lot of questions he had about elves answered and if he was like might learn some tips to improve his magic ability. It then occurred to him how dangerous it had been for Kerlan to travel throughout the Empire.
"It's a pleasure. The only thing there is to see in the Empire is the barren land before you, not much else here. And I'm headed back to Surda where it's probably safer for both you and I to walk around, feel free to join me." Talon said with a welcoming grin.
"Oh if you want to put your hood back on that is fine with me, I've only just realized how dangerous it is for you to walk around exposed as you are. I'm sure Galbatorix would pay good money to get his hands on an elf." He added checking for any being with his mind, he found nothing more than a few small animals.

Kelran nodded his thanks and pulled his hood over his head, "Im sure he would." 'But sometime he will have more elves than he will know what to do with. Elves armed to kill.' the side thought was quite rude, which startled Kelran a bit. Not really the best thing an elf should be thinking about.
"Surda? I've never been that far south. I would be honored to join you." Since he's out of the forest, why not see all he could? And since his new acquitance is going that way, it makes sense to tag along, as some might say. It would probably be safer that way, no matter the destination.
"So, how much do you know of my elven brothers and sisters?" Kelran asked out of curiosity

Watching the elf put his hood back on Talon wondered how long he had been traveling the Empire, seemed like a hard task to keep his secret secret for any extended amount of time. He studied Kerlan for a minute wondering what kind of tough times he must have faced in his years and for that matter how many years he had been around, Talon had heard that elves could live for centuries.
"Lots of sun down there, it's nice! At least a lot better than the Empire." The magician retorted with a grin. "I promise you'll enjoy it more than this." He added stretching his arms at to the vast barren land that was the Empire.
Talon lost all focus as Kerlan asked him the question he was waiting for, seemed like he'd get his wish and have some of his questions answered by the elf. "I don't know much I'll admit. I know that you live for many more years than us humans, your naturally more advanced than us in the ancient language, and that you all come from Du Weldenvarden. I get the feeling there is much more that I don't know though." He felt the urge to use magic just saying the word that was in the ancient language.

Kel chuckled, "Anywhere is better than this wasteland. Atleast there, theres a view to go with it." he said, "Yeah, my people are very long lived. Some say its more a curse than a blessing. And I remember stories of when elves tried to teach the humans what we knew of the ancient language. It was long ago." Kelran didnt say much beyond that. Where his people really came from was not often told among them. Few knew, and maybe a scroll told the story. To some, it was a sensitive matter, one of those "better left alone" kind of things

Talon listened closely as Kelran spoke eager to take in any new knowledge about the elves. He had to nod in agreement anything was better than the Empire, hopefully one day that would change though, one day after the death of Galbatorix. He was starting to be reminded of his childhood in the Empire and his distaste for the landscape grew.
"Tried? Some of us still know a thing two about the ancient language. All efforts weren't wasted." He said defending himself as a magician. He gave the elf a look of disgust, but he couldn't hold it long and began to laugh rather loud. He sighed before he continued.
"I don't see at all how that could be a curse, everlasting life and you all share that gift so you don't have to worry about those you care about dying. Sounds pretty good to me!" The man paused momentarily. before removing his cloak and putting it in his pack looking up ton the sun as he did so. The sky was clear and the land was hot.
"It's pretty nice out today ain't it? I mean nicer than it usually is in the Empire." He then quickly pulled off the black tunic that had been sticking to his chest. He was hoping to get some sunlight that could possibly hide a few more of the scars that were scattered across his torso.
"Tell me Kerlan whats your skill, that one thing you're just really good at, somethign you could do for the rest of your life passionately?" Talon said looking at the elf as though he was taking him apart in his mind to see what made him tick.

"I mean tried in that we couldnt finish the lessons." Kelran said, trying to amend any misunderstanding, "I have seen some works of human magician." but didnt say what he thought or what he had seen. He didnt actualy see them, but heard storied of a couple.
"As with the dwarves of the earth, there are many elves that are slow to forget past wrongs. Many of them take it far beyond what was origionally done to them." Kelran explained, somewhat saddened by it. So many people of other races thought so highly of the elves without knowing how cruel and evil they can be, and that was something of a difficulty to Kelran. If only he and his race were as perfect and "fair" as others thought.
The sun was one reason why Kelran had chosen the white hood; it didnt get as warm as a darker, thicker hood. "Yes. A clear sky is always a gem to behold." he said, and smirked as he heard the last question "A skill much appreciated among the people of Alagesia. I am a greatly talented swordsman." He replied, a little too boastfully, as he pulled his blade from the sheath, "A dwarves smith crafted this for me. Stores, and can be wielded as a single blade, or," he unlocked the two halves, "Or used as two."

"No worries Kerlan, I was only joking." Talon said a little amused by the elf's response. It was a known fact that there were many more elven magic users than humans. This made the man wonder how capable Kerlan was with magic, there was a big chance he was more capable than himself. He sized him up with a pensive look on his face.
"Ah so your kin is the stubborn type aye?" Still Talon thought that the elves were awfully lucky to be blessed with such a long life span, he would love to be able to walk Alagaesia as long as the elves and he was envious of them for that very gift.
"Ah so we have a skilled swordsmen with us. That could come in handy on our trip south, might run into a small Empire legion." Talon said gazing at the blade the elf held out. It looked much nicer than his own and from the things Kerlan had said about it it could do much more as well.
Talon removed his own blade from the sheath on his side, it looked worn with many scratches flowing across the metal. "Killed and Empire Guard to get this blade. It ain't much, but it works."

"Some are." he admitted, "But Im sure you can find that in any race."
"As nice as my sword is, and my skill with it, neither has ended a life." Kelran said, looking at Talons blade, "Im sure that that has served you well. Hopefully we wont need it."
"So tell me, what do you know of Surda?" Kelran asked, curois of the land they were heading to, even though it was sure to be a long trip. His mind wandering, he wondered if Talon had ever seen the forests of Du Weldenvarden, or ever would.
