Kyrn looked back to just see the shade disappear and Emily with Void coming to join him. It appeared that Vedrit had decided to stay put for the time being. Why did the shade leave? Kyrn thought. Was he afraid of something. Still gripping his sword Emily told him not to attack and that Velnix had magic. Fighting back his urge to ignore her and rush in without giving another thought, he decided to wait. Varith tilted and flapped his wings and began to gain alltitude.
"What are you doing?" Kyrn asked Varith. Varith looked back over to Kyrn. "When the time is right I will swoop down right on top of Velnix's head." Kyrn agreed with what Varith had to say. So while Kyrn waited he didn't let his anger go but merely pushed aside for the time being.
Varith extended his mind to Void and Emily and told them what they were going to do and if she had anything to add to it...

If Emily had not shut her mind off from everything from the beginning, she would have scolded Kyrn of such a foolish action. But alas, only Void heard them but could not relay to Emily what had been told. Emily's eyes where full of fear as Velnix came closer. He outstretched his hand to touch her cheek, but she swatted it away."Don't you dare touch me, you vile creature." Velnix only laughed at her comment. She let out a sigh, 'You know why I'm here." Velnix grunted, a frown on his face. His hand moved up and slapped her straight in the face. Her head flung sideways and she ,looked at him, "Big mistake."
Void let out a loud roar and his tail swooped and pounded Velnix in the side. Velnix went tumbling away into the sand. Emily rubbed her face as some of the slavers with Velnix gathered around, 'Now! Give me what I came for, or you can all kiss each other good-bye." But before anyone moved, She felt her body tighten and she fell to the ground. She looked at Void, and Void sent his mind out to Kyrn Now! Velnix had gotten up and dusted the sand from his clothing, and started moving slowly toward Emily, a sick grin on his face.
Emily closed her eyes. It was already dark, but she could feel the heat of the sand burning her. She didn't mutter anything to break the spell, she just lied there.

As soon as Emily was struck by Velnix's hand, Varith locked in his crimson wings and began to plummet to the ground at a high rate of speed. Kyrn's sword was behind him as he was near parallel with Varith's neck. Kyrn had already unlaced his leg bindings so he could easily jump off when Varith landed. Kyrn's anger that he had been building up for this man was finally at its breaking point. All the hardship memories passed before Kyrn's eyes as if he was reliving them all. He griped the handle of his fathers blade so hard that the whites of his knuckles were clearly visible.
Void's roar reached them and they saw that he struck Velnix with his massive tail, but Velnix stood up and as if nothing had happened locked Emily's body in some kind of spell and began to walk toward her. The fool didn't even bother looking up; why would he? When Varith was only about a hundred feet he flared his wings and landed with a loud thud, the force sent ripples through his muscular body and landing between the slavers dividing them into two groups. If Kyrn had not been holding on to Varith's front spike he would have flown off as well. Quickly, Kyrn jumped of and quickly disposed of the two slavers in front of him with a quick slash and Varith began to reek havoc on the other slavers, who still in shock.
Kyrn began to walk towards Velnix with his sword raised and pointing at him. Velnix's smile faded a little but it was not gone. "Oh...and what is this? A young pup' come to join my little birdie?" Velnix said. "Twelve Years!" Kyrn yelled out stopping only a few paces between them. "Twelve years ago YOU KILLED my parents and you SOLD my brother and me into slavery! I vowed that day to Kill you and KILL you I shall!" Velnix smiled and began to laugh, "Now if I had a single crown for every lil' pup's families I've killed, well I would have enough to BUY Galbatorix's throne!" He said ending with a laugh.
"Now why don't you be a good boy an-" He was caught off mid-sentence as Kyrn lunged at him swing his blade in a high arc. Velnix barely evaded that slash. Kyrn twisted around and began to slash downward but Velnix stepped forward and grabbed a hold of Kyrn's wrist stopping the blade from falling. "Now that's not polite pup, interruptin' your betters." A blast of wind sent Kyrn flying backwards. Kyrn dropped his sword into the sand and landed hard onto his back. The soft sand helped out a little. Rolling onto his knees he was doubled over, gripped his stomach, his vision was blurry.
Breathing hard he managed to yell out "Emily!" a rough cough in the middle of his sentence "You have to get up! I...I don't think I can fight him alone!" Velnix walked over and Kicked Kyrn up side the head sending him back onto the ground. The dull pain throbbed at Kyrn's head, this situation was getting worse by the minute...

Great Emily thought. She was stuck to the ground, bound by some unknown spell, and forced to listen as Kyrn got the life beaten out of him. Emily tried to calm down, but the spell was making he shake. Sweat beads dripped off her forehead.
Emily's eyes shot open at Kyrn's plead. She let a hiss out of her mouth. She closed her eyes and focused all her energy on the ground. The vines wrap themselves She started thinking elvish. Pretty soon she could get the words slowly passed her lips. A few minutes later she heard foot-steps, then a thud. She could have sworn she heard Kyrn cry out, and that broke the spell. She jumped up and mumbled the same words in elvish. As each word passed her mouth, thick, green vines wrapped themselves around Velnix. "Never, ever, touch him again." She warned. She moved her hand an brought out her dagger. The black blade shimmered in the dark, "It's time for you to die, Velnix." She brought her dagger down on Velnix's shoulder, cutting sideways. Her dagger moved smoothly threw the mans flesh. Velnix's eyes went dull and he coughed out some blood, "You little..." Before he finished, he fell down dead.
Emily ran and knelt beside Kyrn, "How you doing?" She asked, her face was inches from his, "Your not dead yet, right? Because that would really suck." She giggled, wiping some blood on Kyrn's face, "You really need to be careful, you know that." She stood and offered her hand, "Get up, let's finish off these slavers, then get the rest back t the Varden. I'm pretty sure thats where they had been taken from." She smiled, looking over her shoulder at Void.
Void hissed. He didn't like how close the boy Kyrn was to Emily. He moved quickly and placed his head in between them. Emily smiled and stroked the dragons face.

After Kyrn's plea he blacked out, he wasn't sure how long he had been out but was sure that it couldn't have been too for too long. His whole body ached and the mental link to Varith was weak but still strong. When he opened his eye's all he saw was blurs in the dark. He heard a voice and was sure that it was Emily's but he couldn't be sure. The blow to the head made his senses dull, all but the basic of instincts. But the feel of a hand wiping blood off of his face felt wonderful.
He saw the her blur hold out a hand to help him up. He was positive that it was Emily. She must have broken the spell that bound her and killed Velnix; that was the only explanation that he could come to. When he sat up his stomach pained him. The force from Velnix's magic was strong. He braced his abdomen and grabbed her extended hand. When he was on his feet he almost fell but put his hand on her shoulder to steady himself. His vision finally returned to normal.
"Your right," He said. "I do need to be more careful," nodding to her. He looked over his shoulder to see a dead Velnix. Emily was deffinitly stronger then she looked. When void came in between the too of them Kyrn took the hint and walked away from them and found his fathers blade in the sand. Reaching over he clutched it firmly. Finally that bastard was dead, but he knew that his adventure was far from over.
He was about to move when he heard a gurgling noise from behind him. He turned around to see Velnix's hand raised and he was muttering some kind of spell. Kyrn froze he couldn't think strait. Suddenly Varith jumped behind him and with his open mouth bit down into Velnix's upper half in his powerful jaws. With a wet crunch Varith spit out the upper half of Velnix onto the sand.
"Boy...am I glad to see you Varith."
"You need to become stronger Kyrn...any way possible."
Kyrn knew that to be true, if he had magic this wound't have happened the way it did. Anger at himself built back up inside of him and he quickly dispatched the nearest slaver. Not giving up he began to attack each slaver. A few of them tried to get away but Varith stopped them from even getting a fifty yards.
Kyrn's anger finally subsided, a little. He walked over to one of the cages. Breaking the rusted lock with his sword he looked at the slaves. He looked at each on of them and there where many. Some old, some young, some even children.
"Where are you from?" He asked
An old man looked around and then back to Kyrn. His body was frail and he looked starved, it was obvious that the slavers had not fed them.
"We are from Surda, young lord, we were on our way to help the varden by bringing supplies when these men captured us." The mans said in a weak voice. It struck him as odd that the man called him a lord. Until Varith, he was a slave on the run, much like these people now.
"Call me Kyrn," he replied. "Do you know where these men were taking you?" Kyrn knew the answer already but had to confirm it.
"Gil'ead..." A young woman answered. Kyrn looked down for a second then back up to their sad faces.
"Go now you are all free, you can take all of the slavers supplies and head any where you like, to the south lies Surda, if you head west though you can find the Ramr river for water, then go south down to the lake Tudosten. If travel on the eastern bank, you can go all the way down to Petrovya in surda."
Kyrn turned has back and began to walk toward Varith.
"What do we do now?" He asked outloud.

Emily hadn't noticed Velnix until Kyrn's dragon had bitten the man in half. She almost jumped when the mans hand touched her leg. Void hissed, but before he could do anything the boys dragon had finished it. She looked over and watched as Kyrn killed the men with anger. Kyrn She thought. Your not weak, just inexperienced. Don't worry. "My first battle, I almost lost my life trying to kill an elf. I was so mad at myself for being weak when Galbatrox came and killed the elf before he killed me."
She walked over and put a hand on his shoulder, watching as the Slaves raided the cargo, take the horses, and go off to Surda. She smiled.
Void hissed, swapping one of the still alive slavers with his tail.
Emily moved in front of him and grabbed both his shoulders, "Your not weak, you just need the knowledge and some training. You come with me to the elves, and meet my grandfather." She smiled and dropped her hands from his shoulders. She turned and walked toward Void, "Just follow me, okay." She said, hoisting herself atop Void. "The elves will be more then happy to train you, but watch out for my grandfather, hes not very kind to strangers." She smiled. Void turned and started to flap his bat-like wings. In a few moments he was up in the air. Void growled.
Don't pour yourself into him, you know he's not worth the time. Void thought with some anger
If I have a chance to help this rider, then I'm taking it. Emily shot back.
You have no idea what your getting yourself into.
Void replied with a sharp growl.
Emily only giggled. She knew she must not get too close.

Sheathing his fathers blade onto his back and not knowing what to do Kyrn looked to the night sky. The stars where shining bright as well as the moon. He always like the night sky even if the air smelled like fresh blood. It was over, the quest for vengeance that he had taken upon himself to complete was over. It had taken him over twelve years to complete, and he wouldn't have done it without Varith, Void, and Emily. It would have taken him even longer without them, if he was only stronger then he could have killed Velnix without even thinking about it.
He was lost in thought. Suddenly he felt Emily's hands on his shoulders and explained to him that he is not weak.
Either she can read minds, or I'm just to easy to read. He thought.
But when she said that the elves would teach him and train him, it took him a second to wrap his mind around what she said. By the time he could think she was already taking flight on void. Kyrn quickly got onto Varith and strapped in his legs.
"Well I did say any way possible didn't I?" Varith said to Kyrn.
Kyrn let out a chuckle. "yes...yesyou did."
There where still things that Kyrn wanted to do, but his main goal, is to find his brother, Mickel.
Kyrn thought of something and he extended his mind toward Emily.
"Hey, about two years ago I saw my brother, it wasn't the best of meetings but...I still want to know if my little brother is still alive? Last I heard he was in Galbatorix's army. I was wondering if you met him before? His name is Mickel Heartstroth?" Kyrn asked.

Emily thought for a moment and nodded, extending her mind toward Kyrn. I haven't heard of a Heartstroth, but I've heard of a Mickel Trox. I was in the main throne room when he was promoted to commander. He...He asked me out a few times, but he was a few years younger then me. Emily sighed for a moment, feeling the cool night breeze gently rushing into her face. I had heard rumors that he changed his last name to Trox in honer of Galbatrox. He was like a loyal puppy to him, and sometimes he ran errands for me. He took me to dinner once, and talked about his brother. He blames him for everything that has happened, the only good of it being with Galbatrox.
Emily shook her head, even if Kyrn couldn't see it. He is now one of Galbatrox's best warriors. Whenever I eat in the throne room, since I was like a daughter to the old man, he would boast about Mickel. Saying he was the best warrior a king could have. It broke my heart to see the poor kid under Galbatrox's rule. I have to be back in two months to go to war with him against Surda, but he's not ready, too much anger... She paused for a moment, You remind me of him.
She sighed, looking for a spot to land. Void, bring us down on that rock. Void nodded. They had been flying for a while, and Void was too tired because Emily had used a new spell that took up too much energy. "I'll have to be careful next time." She mumbled as Void started circling for a landing spot. Kyrn, land. Me and Void are too tired to fly anymore. And the elves are too far to make in in one night.
By then Void was already on the ground. Emily slid off slowly. Emily took the bottle she had tied around her hand, the bottle only had enough for one person, "Goodness, I knew I should not have brought this this time."
Void sighed and crawled up into a ball. His yes drifted shut and he fell into a deep sleep. Emily reached into a pocket and got out an apple. She bit into it. "So, Emily. In one day you have made friends with a new dragon rider. Made friends with Varden and a shade, sorta. And killed one of Galbatrox's highest money makers for the throne. You have a lot of explaining to do when you get back." She sighed and scratched her head."Hey Kyrn. Mickel, the boy I talked about, he was stationed at Gil'ead last I heard. He usually writes, but he hasn't for months, mind if we stop there on the way to the elves?"
(Wow, this story is getting mixed up. interesting, no? I hope you don't mind what I'm doing to the boy.)

(OoC: Nope, I don't mind at all. And yes this is getting interesting ) The news of his brother cut him deep. "How could Mickel think that it was my fault?" Kyrn asked Varith. "Well, maybe you have different memories of that night?" Kyrn thought about it and that did make some sense. Kyrn can only remember waking up in the night to screams and fire, his mom was gone and he saw his father defending Mickel only to get cut down by Velnix. "You don't feel too bad Kyrn, remember you pain is my pain as well." Kyrn nodded, "I know, but Mickel is the only family I have left, well...you and him."A low rumble came from Varith as he began to descend, following void. Varith landed and Kyrn unstrapped his legs and hopped off. Kyrn proceeded to take off Varith's saddle. and set it down as Varith dug himself into a small hole in the sand and curled up. Kyrn walked over, taking off his sword and bauldric and sat down as his back rested on Variths side. When Emily told him that Mickel was stationed in Gil'ead he nodded, "I don't know if I want to actually talk to my brother...the last time we met I was a sla...." He stopped himself from finishing and instead continued on. "Well he kicked from atop a horse after he came wanting my fathers blade, but it would still be nice to see him again." Kyrn looked to Emily and yawned. "Well Im going to sleep so good night." Kyrn said and then fell asleep as Varith's webbed wing covers him.

Emily curled up next to Void and pretended to be asleep until she heard soft sleeping breaths from the dragon and rider. She then jumped up and sighed, "I'm sorry, Kyrn.." She muttered. She patted Voids head, 'Lets go..." Void jumped up, full of energy. I guess this is your choice? Void asked with hesitation. Emily nodded,"I can't help him in his travels, but I can lead him the right way." She said some words and paper and a writing stick and some ink flew out of the saddle bags.
Emily grabbed the paper and wrote in the regular toungh.
Kyrn, I'm sorry but I have to leave you by yourself. I cannot help you with the things to come, and I can't direct you where to go. I am leaving you with directions to the elves, and directions to Gil'ead. If you go to the elves, we will not meet right away. If you choose to see Mickel, then we will meet very soon. I am sorry to leave you in the night like this, but I must, for I have duties a rider of the empire must fulfill . May we see each other again, soon. Emily Drako.
Emily blrew on the paper until it dried, then she walked over and placed in next to the sleeping man. She reached and pulled a blanket out of the saddle bags, and draped in over the sleeping body. She pulled the bottle of liquid off her neck and settled in next to Kyrn.
Emily grinned and said in elfish words, "May you fly true, brave and noble rider."
She walked over and climbed atop Void, who was ready to fly. She took one last look at Kyrn and grinned, "We will meet again, rider." With that, Void flew into the night, his black body blending in with the sky, so none could see him.
(and now! that ends their meeting, for now, at least.)

The night drifted on until the sun began to come up. Kyrn woke when the light drifted to his eyes. He sat up and was surprised to see a blanket covering him. He didn't fall asleep with one. Varith slept next to him.
"I know your awake." Kyrn said to Varith.
Varith let out a sigh and a puff of smoke.
"How do you do that?"
"Well its easy to tell when someone is sleeping, how else do you think I was able to sneak around the estate back when I was a slave. Also it helps that we have a mental link." Kyrn replied with a smile.
Kyrn looked around but couldn't see any sign of Emily or Void. He placed his hand down on the sand to brace himself up when he felt the crumple of paper under his hand. Picking it up and reading he sighed.
"Well I could have told you that those two would have left us."
"Ya probably...but what do you think we should do?" Kyrn asked folding his arms.
"Well, I love the heat in this desert but not so much with all of the sand. I have sand in my scales, claws, nose, and places I'd rather not talk about. So the closest place out of the desert would be toward Gil'ead. And we do need some actual food."
Kyrn nodded.
"Fine then, we are off to Gil'ead, and if fate see's fit my brother will find us first."
Kyrn saddled Varith and straped on his bauldric and mounted up. Kyrn wished he had learned more ancient words for magic. Varith lept into the air and with powerful thrusts of his wings he ascended into the air. Varith leveled off and angled toward Gil'ead.
(( well a quest for vengeance is now done lol. off to GIL'EAD!!!!!))
