Zark began to recover faster, his breathing returned but the spirits that he had summoned still held him up, silent and whispy, as if they hardly existed. He managed to give a broad smile, though he hardly knew why, "Yes, just barely. If Surbus' didn't change back I would have been dead." He was glad that Torin and Nola were alright. Why? They are nothing but pawns. Its not as if they are truelly important. Still, he felt that they were more important than he had anticipated. "Glad to see that you suffered no loses. And I suppose I require some explaination." He looked at Surbus as he slept. Calm for now, and exhausted.

The last ten minutes of Torin's life had been the worse he had ever expierenced. Surbus, once a cute kitten with tentacles, transformed into a demon. The transformation also brought back some of Torin's worse memories.
11 months ago, on Torin's 16th birthday, his father sacrificed his life to protect Torin from the Urgals. Friends being slaughtered by the Urgals and the Urgals decimating the Caravans. Torin was the only one left of his Gyspy Tribe. These images were still fresh in his mind and somehow Surbus made them come back.
Torin fell onto the ground when Surbus changed back. Torin couldn't keep his eyes off Surbus. Nola was probably distressed too. They ventured on back to the camp. The images still coming back. Torin started to cry, but quickly composed himself.
"We have to get out of here. Zark and Ardocc are with me, but are you two with us?"
Torin then realized that they didn't know there objective.
"Sorry, everyone sit down. I will explain to you what we are doing."
Torin sat down and explained to Nola and the Dwarves their objective.

Nola would have liked to comfort Torin once her green eyes noticed the tears, but before she could say a word he was composed. He is so young...but yet strong.
Her worries also went to Zark. Why she had the faintist idea. Nola knew would miss Surbus even after the freak show. Nola wished she could have learned more of of them both and magic.
"Im sorry, but I can not follow you on your 'objective'. I think now I will travel to Urû’baen to learn more things." Nola was very interested now in learning the ways of magic. Finding a teacher would easy enough. At least this is what she hoped.

Ardocc needed to no longer support Zark so he quickly engaged in the conversation. He knew Surbus was part of Zark, but Zark was really weak.
To think, Zark's life is theoretically held in the decisions of a kitten! Then Ardocc laughed to himself at the thought.
When Ardocc saw Torin's emotions rise, he dismissed it and acted as though he didn't notice. Instead he concentrated on this massive bow. This was his new weapon. He had a bow before on his boat, and was extremely talented. But this was at least 3 times as big.
When Nola said she didn't want to help, he had no bad feelings for her. But asked, " What are these 'things' you must learn?" He didn't have a problem asking it in a rude manner. He had already shed his old self. The whole time he said this very uninterested while he inspected his new weapon.

"I see no reason from keeping my doings from you boys..."Speaking with a small smirk playing on her lips. Nola knew it would be a long way to Urû’baen. She would have to find a village or small town to buy a horse and supplies.
"I wouldnt say learn...more like further my learning. I have a friend who can help me find a teacher for advanced magic." The rude manner which Ardocc spoke she ignored. She had never really liked him anyway.

He sighed and said, "Why don't you just ask Zark to teach you. That's what you want isn't it?" Ardocc didn't care much for her right now, but dismissed it, he decided to go practice with his new bow. He bid the group farewell and left for a small dead stump, sticking out of the dirt. It had termites crawling all around it. He set the arrow and pulled the string like he always did, but the string barely moved. He tried more pressure and it moved only an inch. He couldn't cold it much longer and released it, he figured it would go about two feet, but instead the arrow sail through the air about 30 feet. He realized the tautness of the bowstring was so powerful that he could really send an arrow flying if he wanted to. (( lol, why must you hate me soo. ))

Zark raised an eyebrow and said, "Ardocc does present an excellent point. I could teach you magic in many forms. I could teach you words of power and I could teach you some other arts if you are up for such a challenge." His tone didn't turn into sarcasm or bitterness like it normally did. He was too tired for such pretenses. "Besides, prehaps we can meet this friend of your after our objective."
As Zark talked Surbus began to stir, starting to come around as he began to yawn and stretch.

He thinks I want to be taught by Zark? Ardocc must have something wrong in that head of his. Nola just gave a small sigh. She didn't think of Zark teaching her or in that fact staying this long at all. "I just don't know..."She shook her head softly her smile gone. As Surbus started to wake in her arms her green eyes went wide for a second then back to its calm state."Here..." She said giving Surbus back to Zark. ((Muwhaaa...Hatw who said Hate? I adore you ;D))

"I respect your decision Nola, but as they said, training with Zark would be the best thing. Eventually we will be passing to go up North, just after the Island of Illium. And if you stay with us, things just might get intresting again."
Torin looked around it was midday by now, and Torin was famished. He quickly found a few logs and gathered them up. After catching a rabbit, Torin pronouced "Brisingr" and the logs lit. He roasted the rabbit will searching for some wild vegtables for some salad. He found a few pieces of lettuce, but that was all. He rummaged in his pack and found some pickles. He got out the last of his wooden plates and divvied out the food, even the pickles. When he finished he told everyone that food was ready and Torin sat down and started eating.

Zark simply stared at Nola and said, beginning to recover some of the coldness in his voice, "Well, apparantly this girl thinks that she can find someone far more of a better magician than I. Such a pitty. Prehaps she'll find a magician with one of those weaklings that pretend to know much of magic but in truth know little of it." He gave a short harsh laugh before he started to turn away.
Surbus' eyes opened slowly, jumping out of Zark's hold, landing on the ground lightly and said to Nola, I missed alot when I changed huh? His tone wasn't filled with happiness or unhappiness, but feelings mixed with sadness and a trace of resent of something. Then he began to lick his paw and groom himself.

Nola was going to reply to Torin and had her mouth half way open to do so. After the short time of thinking, she was going to tell them she would stay. Of course, Zark had to ruin this my opening his big mouth. Picking up the food that Torin made for them and saying a polite thank you. Nola went to Surbus first shivering a bit before speaking to him from her mind.
Yes...Yes you did.
Her green eyes seemed to be lit with a inner fire as she walked in front of Zark."This girl has a name. This girl does not like to be referred to as the girl when the girl is present. Also, this girl was planning to, with the help of her friend, find a shade."
As her muscles tense Nola did the most foolish thing she could have done. With a move of her arm she pushed the plate of food right into Zark's face and stomped on his foot. With a faint smirk she turned to Torin."I'm so sorry about the food....Ill be sure to replace it. I think ill go for a little walk and come back with my answer." Giving Surbus and Torin a small wink she walked away with a smug look.

Zark expected her to do something like hit him or embarress him some how. He did not however, expect her to talk of a shade. Zark's eyes immediately lit up with surpise and interest, just before the plate hit him in the face, then his toe was stomped. Zark hardly noticed the food or the pain in his foot. Shade?!? Who?!? Where!?!? How!?!? So many questions, yet so few awnsers. He brushed the food from his face as Nola began to walk away. His mind cranked suddenly and came up with one comment. "Sorry." His tone was hard to read. It could have been many emotions or none at all.
Surbus' ears perked up as she mentioned a shade. He cocked his head to the side as Nola winked. His mind, like Zark's was filled with questions of all kinds. You certainly have master in a state of shock. Never seen him like that. Not since he was a student in magic.

"Sorry."
Well, that was one word Nola thought never to hear from Zark. If he wants answers he can try to follow me. I'm good at covering my tracks if I want. So, if he does....tell him to hurry please?
Not turning to look at the others as she left she made her way and found a peaceful tree. It was very large from what she could tell. It had to be very old and hopefully strong. Making sure this time no Urgals were around or anyone she started her climb up the tree. Nola found a nice strong limb to sit on leaning her back on the trunk. No one would see her unless they caught the red hair through the leaves.

Torin broke out laughing. He just couldn't help himself. After a serious conversation, that just broke the ice. Plus Zark was being a jerk. Nola winked at him and walked off.
"You deserved that Zark, hahaha. You were being an ass."
Torin got up, brushed the crumbs off of his lap and went to his pack. He got out a few pickles and started munching on them.
"You seriously need to work...munch...on your social skills. You may be the greatest magician in the world, but people don't like it when you shove it...munch...in thier faces. People consider me one of the greatest thieves...munch...in Alagaesia, but do I go around telling everyone and being an ass? No, It's...munch... disrespectful and uncalled for. If you...munch...excuse me, I think I will go take a bath. This blood is getting rather bothersome and I would like to wash it off. I will be pleased if you, Zark...munch..., go see to Nola."
Torin set off to a local spring and undressed. He went into the spring and said "Brisngr" so the water would heat up. He then soaked in the water and relaxed.

Post by Dwandir - Dondir on Jan 5, 2007 17:42:05 GMT -5
When the other's had returned, the dwarfs were oblivious to anything, for they had been doing their own things since Ardocc and Zark and Torin and Nola all had left.
Dwandir knew that interfering with the conversations and problems of humans only brought forth more fighting and anger towards the dwarf himself, so he stayed out of it until Torin told him their tale. He was very interested in the helping the Varden part, and about the fighting. he addressed Ardocc and Torin and Zark by saying. "I have no problem helping you men out, if it is truly for the Varden." He said eying Torin. "I am not to aid in a scavenger hunt that is for gold only. Besides, you eliminated our last assignment." He said throwing his thumb over his shoulder in the direction of the dead urgals.
Dondir agreed, he liked the men, they were amusing to him. He himself was a young dwarf, but almost double these men in years. And he secretly yearned the knowledge of even an ounce of magic. For that was scarce among his peoples clan. But he wouldn't dare ask in front of his brother, for Dwandir would seriously frown upon it.
All in all, they agreed to aid in any way they could.

Zark nodded to Torin. He felt like he was being scolded by a child, which was all to true. It annoyed him that Torin thought he could do it. It frustrated him even further that what he said was true. "Fine... I'll find her and say sorry for what I said." He grumbled and took off. Leaving Surbus behind with Torin and the Dwarves. He looked about for Nola, but couldn't quite find her. As he approached the tree that she was on he sighed in defeat then he remebered that he had a powerful ally. Magic. He looked around for a little water, noticed a small pool nearby so he dug a hole into the ground with his hands, and pulled the water with his magic into the small pool that he had made and muttered the proper words to scry and locate Nola. He was shocked that she was just overhead. "So, you were just above me huh?" He said without looking up, in a normal tone that was unlike him. Just a tone that an average person would use.
Surbus looked at the dwarves and said in their minds, Hello dwarves! Want to play with me? I want to play a game of tag. You look funny with those stubby legs, as if you had no knee caps so I'll go slow for you two. PROMISE! So, wanna play?

Movement could be heard from above Zark as she made her way lower down to him. In a very short time Nola was face to face with Zark but she was upside down. Her face was lit with a wide smile and her red wazy hair was in her face. She was using her legs as the only thing keeping her from falling. "Aye...Right above you the whole time." The anger that was on her face only a while before was hidden but not completely gone. Nola would not forget what he had said.
With a graceful swing of her legs she landed right in front of Zark. "Anything you want?" She said putting her hands at her sides and raising a eyebrow.

Zark sighed, and said as humbly as he could, "I want to say sorry. I had no right to say the things I said." He didn't falter though he felt that he was saying his death sentence. "And I will respect your decision of leavign or staying, but I would be honored if..." Would he dare ask it? After a pause he finished, saying "If you would take me as your teacher." He then waited for Nola's awnser, keeping his eyes low, not summoning the will to look her in the eye anymore.

Nothing could move the bright smile of triumphant off Nola face at this moment. She could tell how hard that was on Zark. Moving her hands from her sides and toward her sides she said nothing at first to Zark.Simply she touched his chin up to her green eyes so they were looking right at each other then spoke. "I forgive you." Then she dropped his chin looking at the sky for a moment.
"As for you being my teacher....I still just don't know" His attitude was one thing she did not want to deal with. "What would I expect with you being my teacher?" If it was going to be all business and no fun. Which with his cold manner was very high. It would be a much better bet to find a shade who would never be boring and every second would be a risk.

Zark was humiliated enough without that smile beaming at him. When she raised his chin it only added to the humiliation. When she asked what she would expect from him as a teacher he responded, saying, "I will teach you as much as I can, giving you words of power and prehaps, if your interested enough, teach you how to summon and control spirits." His tone was still filled with the humiliation from his apology though he tried to sound more confident. "I'll even teach you how to create a familiar." Zark wondered why he was promising so many things. Was it because he was eager to teach or hated to lose a friend? After a goo long pause Zark decided to let her think on it by herself instead of pushing her. "I'll let you think on this alone." And started to leave and said, "If you want to find me use that pool of water and say these words." After phrasing the words he then strode into the forest.
