Vavrin watched as the moments passed and he did not say anything. Though she did not expect Nihael to bring up the subject of family, it did not bother her to discuss such things. She answered his inquiery truthfully, wondering why he was interested or even cared. Nevertheless, she spoke. "I do, or I did. I assume my father, Soren, is long dead by now. I have not seen him after he fled Uru Baen after my mother Jana died by my hand." She read his curious expression and went on to explain. "You see, after I became a Shade, I used my newfound powers to kill her. Once my father found out, he ran. Probably scared I'd come for him next. Fool," she scoffed. Vavrin furrowed her eyebrows slightly as she looked at him. "Why.. why do you ask?"

Nihael had predicted that she would ask that question and had prepared himself in advance to answer it. "As I said before, I like to get to know a little somehting about my companions. Gives me somewhat of an insight as to their character." Atleast everything he said was true and he was able to say it all unflinchingly, but that little voice did not let him forget that that was not the whole reason. "So you have no other family? No other... relationships?" The moment the words left his lips, he wished that he could have them back. You are about as opaque as a storefront window!

She listened as he explained that he merely wished to gain insight to her character. Fair enough, I suppose. Nihael furthered his questioning, only this time she was caught by complete surprise. Did I hear correctly? Is he asking about my relationship status...? Why? Vavrin's eyebrows shot upward, momentarily taken aback. Her thoughts were suspicious. How is it that I go about this? She was completely perplexed as to why he would care to know, other than the fact that he was simply being curious. However she did not doubt there was a chance he could be asking for his own personal gain, that which exceeded the purpose of insight alone. Vavrin averted her eyes quickly and gazed into the distance as she adjusted her leather bracers.
Briefly, her thoughts dwelled upon her former master. The relationship they had was special, strange, if not different from that she had ever known. It was long in the past, for he was dead and buried in the depths of her mind, and such details she was not inclined to share by any means with anybody, ever. Vavrin recalled speaking of him to Nihael when they first met, when the twins had overheard her. Since then, she was careful not to bring it up by any means. The only "relationship" of sorts she had was with Yin and Yang, for they were the only ones she let herself be somewhat close to as far as comradery went, though she would not admit it.
Finally, she composed herself as a sudden gust swept her long mane off of her shoulders. "I have no other family," she said as she stared into Nihael's dark eyes. "I do not harbour any relationships or lovers, as it were."

Nihael was somewhat surprised by how boldly his question was answered, he had been expecting a more, evasive response.
How much longer are you planning on hanging around that "town". I thought they were just going to quickly deal with some things and leave. We have taken much longer than should have been neccessary to fulfill the orders.
I am unable to do anything about it, we are waiting on the Twins yet again.
We could always leave them and finish the job on our own.
We have travelled far with them already, a couple more days with them should not make a difference, we hardly have much better to do anyway.
I suppose you are right, but remember, we can always just fly ahead.

Satisfied with how she handled herself, she crossed her arms and leaned against the gates. Vavrin wasnt used to being put in such a situation, though she was happy that it was over with and resumed waiting. The silence that settled between them was odd, as if the whole town had stopped talking and moving around as well.
Digging the toe of her boot into the soft dirt, she looked up at Nihael and said, "And what of you? I told you of my family and relationships... now it is your turn. Perhaps you'd care to shed more light on your mysterious past." Vavrin smirked slightly, it was only fair. She also had to admit, she was curious seeing as she knew next to nothing of Nihael or his background.

"I suppose we have a few things in common, I 'eliminated' my parents, they were getting on my nerves. They kept trying to convince me to go with them to the Varden and didn't seem prepared to take no for an answer so, I stopped them." Nihael played his hand over one of the sword's hilt as he recalled what he had done. "I am not in and have never been in a 'relationship' in that sense. I suppose I have never found someone interesting enough or bothered to find one. Even if I did, I doubt I would exactly be able to settle down in a farm in the country."

Vavrin listened intently, still leaning against the gate. "I see," she said calmly, keeping her dark maroon eyes on his. "Settling down is something I dont think I am capable of either. Nor would I wish to do so, it seems so dull. I am content with the way things are, now." Vavrin looked away, and silence fell upon both of them again.
So, he had killed his parents, too. Vavrin quite liked the sound of that. It made her all the more curious, too. She decided not to press the matter further, and figured there would come another time to discuss other things. Vavrin suddenly remembered the twins, they had been wherever it was they were for a long time now. Though she was enjoying Nihael's company too much to worry about the time anyway. Well, at least I know a little bit more, now. Vavrin inched a little closer to him as a few more people passed through the gates.

Nihael swore as he was forced to quickly step aside to avoid an errant cart from running over him and considered teaching the stupid farmer who had let his cart run free, a lesson. His hand had actually gone towards the hilt of his sword before he stopped himself, not wanting to have to deal with whatever policing force the town had at the moment. "You would think these bloody villagers would be better at controlling their animals after doing it all their lives."
Nihael found that he had stepped much closer to Vavrin when he had side-stepped the cart. "So, um... what are you planning on doing after we finish with this mission?"

As Nihael side-stepped, Vavrin scowled as the cart trudged by. "Yes, you'd think the animals are in control of thier owners." She realized that they were standing within mere inches of each other, and noted that had her arms not been crossed, they would have been touching. Vavrin didn't step back, she wasnt bothered at all by it, and she flashed a grin as she leaned nonchalantly on her shoulder. There was a part of her that wanted to be that close to him more often... but she quickly focused her thoughts on answering his question.
"Honestly, I hadnt thought about it. I could always go back to Gil'ead, I suppose..." she shrugged, sighing. "Though I would prefer to come and reclaim Indy. After that? I have no plans. Probably will do whatever captures my fancy. Take things as they come. What about you?" Vavrin looked up at him, tilting her head to the side. Secretly, she hoped that fate would not make them part ways.

"I suppose I will just go as the wind takes me. Look for something to do assuming Galbatorix doesn't give me anything else to do. Before meeting you, or should I say, you finding me, I was getting rather bored waiting around for something to do." Nihael noted somewhat uncomfortably how close he was to Vavrin, but he couldn't help but enjoy it at the same time. Once again, he found his mind wandering along paths he would rather not traverse in the presence of others, let alone Vavrin herself.
Busying himself with a splotch of mud splashed onto his leggings by a passing cart, mainly to prevent his eyes drifting where they should not, "Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if you were 'normal' "-- he gave the word a distasteful flick with his tongue -- "like a majority of these people?"

"What is normallity?" the twins asked, standing behind Nihael and Vavrin. "To be normal is to be abnormal and we're the most normal thing around here."
Yin held out a scroll to the two. "A map of the Spine, in case we are ever seperated." Yang checked though the items in their packs, removing a few items and placed them into piles. "Everything we'll need the spine can provide. Food, water, shel---"
A cart bumped into Yin and stopped dead, Yin not moving an inch. " 'scuse me, would you mind moving?" the driver asked. The horse turned his head and looked at Yin, nudging him with his head. Yin looked at the horse and back at the driver.
"Yes," he said, turning his attention back to Nihael and Vavrin. "We've marked down the areas that have the cleaner water supply and areas with fresh fruit."
Yin stopped talking as he heard a whip crack. The horse whinnied and pulled on the cart harder, but it refused to move as it pressed against Yin. "Stop that," Yin and Yang said. The horse stopped pulling and the driver pulled back his whip. Yin caught the tip of the whip before it hit the horse with his hand. "We were talking to you, driver."

Vavrin smirked a little. "I am glad to have relieved you of your boredom then," she said teasingly. Vavrin glanced over her shoulder quickly as she heard the twin's voices from behind. She nodded in acknowledgment, uncrossed her arms and reached out to take the map that Yin was holding out. She turned back to Nihael as she began to answer his question.
Not once had she ever wondered what her life would be like, if she hadnt become what she was. Vavrin was certain she probably wouldnt have amounted to anything, she never took interest in the life she lived before. Vavrin shrugged slightly, resting one hand upon the hilt of her sword. "Ahh," she mused, "I would probably still be in Uru Baen, more than likely married off to some pathetic excuse for an Empire soldier of some sort... Father wouldnt have it any other way." Vavrin scowled disapprovingly, it was almost too sickening to imagine any other life. She continued on. "Though it is fortunate that I am what you see before you; a Shade, for if I were not we would have never met, and our... mutual partnership would not exist," she said, with a hint of coyness in her voice.
Slowly she broke her gaze from Nihael and focused upon the twins, who were dealing with some rude stranger and his cart. Vavrin unrolled the map and glanced at it, thankful for something to keep her hands busy and to herself.

"It seems I am very lucky when you put it like that." Nihael smiled as he noted the coy tone in Vavrin's voice. He turned his attention onto the Twins as Vavrin looked down at the map she recieved from them.
"Either kill him or leave him be. We do not have time for the two of you to dispense moral lessons to half-wits, we have taken much longer than necessary as is." Nihael grimaced at the dirty cart-driver and waited for the Twins to finish up with him.

Yin snatched the whip from the man and made sure he had nothing else to harm the horse. "You speak as if we set up such distractions," they said, Yin tucking the whip inside his jacket. "And I'm sure you and Vavrin have set up plenty more distractions then this."
Yang threw his pack over his shoulder, tossing Yin's staff to him. "But yes, let us take our leave, unless you wish to sit and chat." Yin reached into his coat and tossed the small whip to Vavrin, moving aside and finally allowing the horse to pass. Yang held out his arm, handing Yin his pack. You'd probably enjoy such trinkets more then I.

Vavrin handed the map to Nihael as she caught the whip which Yin had tossed. She carefully examined it, much as a child would inspect a new toy with wide eyes. Testing it out with a flick or three of her wrist, she grinned wickedly as it gave a pleasing swishy sound. "How touching, Yin." It certainly wouldnt prove to be hard for her to think of numerous uses for such a thing.
Shifting her stance a little, she glanced back at Nihael who was still close by her, the mischievious glint still in her eye. Holding the whip to her side, she said,"Im ready to go, are you? We should probably head out before we get caught up by another reckless townsperson and his cart."

"I never would have taken the two of you for animal sympathizers."
Nihael grimaced as he remembered the close encounter he had with the run-away cart, although it did have it's benefits.
"I have been ready to leave since we got here." he spoke, smoothing over his face and giving his somewhat muddied leggings an absent-minded brush of his hand.

Nodding in the direction of the gates, she said, "Then let us wait no longer." Stepping directly in front of a couple arm in arm, she merely had to glare at them to stop them in their tracks as she ventured forward, eager to set out in the open and out of the confining walls of Therinsford.
Tucking the whip into her belt, she gazed around her and up at the sky. It was later than she thought, far into the afternoon for certain. People were still coming and going, and she was glad that they were finally leaving before the streets became overly congested for her tastes.
