Brenton stood in the middle of the training grounds cracking his knuckles and neck. Loosening up was so much easier when you weren't constantly tensed up. It started when the group decided to head back to the Varden where Isrydia was sure to be. Still the disgraced former king had stopped in Ellesmera for a brief conversation with Rella. He wasn't sure who the new monarch was but Brenton was certain it was going to be Arya. When finally loose enough he smirked in his old self confident manner. The fight will never start if you don't get ready. So hurry up already.
Leon stood over by the door of the town pub, his shoulder pressed against the cold bricks. He unconsciously brushed his hair from his eyes and began rubbing his thumb over a scar on his right wrist. Weapons hung from the half elf at all areas as he observed the foreboding man prepare for a fight. The figure looked slightly familiar but he wouldn't know why.
Over confidence resonated from every pore of the man's body as he stood there. He gave off the appearance of someone who knew how to fight but also someone who was proud and made mistakes often. The man could win but it could also go bad if he gave into his personality. Stupidity and over confidence are enemies in a fight. Leon muttered to himself.

David finished belting Kveykva to his waist. It had been a while since he had a proper one on one duel. Brenton had been training David and Velathan for almost two months now, and all the while it had been two on one. Now it was time for a proper one on one with his Mentor. David smirked at Brenton's words and replied "A wise warrior does not rush into battle, but takes the time to survay his enemies." The Rider then unsheathed the black curved sword and got into a ready stance, right foot in front, left in back, both slightly bent. He held Kveykva loosely in his right hand, ready for the half elf to make his first move. David knew he was going to loose, since Brenton was faster than him, given his elven side, but David knew in a decade or two, they would be a fair match.
Zeus was a little ways off, curled up on the ground, his head resting on his paws. He was now the close to the size of a elephant (do they even have those in Alagaesia??) and had flown with David had few times, though they were short flies, given how The black Dragon was not big enough to fly long distances with a rider on his back. He had his saddle bags on, where the Eldunari they had just been given rested hidden. Heralda, Dragon of David's grandfather.. and mother to Zeus.
She used both Zeus's and David's eyes as her own, and said wisely "Do not go into battle thinking it lost, you may be able to outsmart Brenton." While she said this critically, It was still in a happy tone, for this was the happiest she had been in over 50 years, since before the death of Kronos.
Zeus hummed at her words, but said nothing.

Zachariah was leaning against the front of the pub watching everyone and everything going on around him but he looked as though he was on the verge of sleep that was one of his favorite tricks. He laughed to him self looking at everyone through his deep cowl of his armor making sure nothing of interest was happening
The only things that where happening where the occasional drunk would call for a maiden to fill his mug the ever moving street took merchants off to there destinations. Then there was the other half elf leaning on the pub looking as though he wanted to start a entire war by himself. Zachariah liked the arsenal the half elf had perhaps this day had yet to be interesting just yet

Leon was concentrating on the battle when suddenly a sixth sense alerted him to someone else. It was that feeling he got whenever someone was watching him, a prickling in the back of his skull that couldn't be made to go away. So the half elf glanced over from the corner of half lidded eyes to find another half elf there. It wouldn't have bothered him if this man wasn't looking like a warrior as well. To appease his curiosity, Leon turned and nodded. If I may inquire, what is it that has you so intrigued by my presence?
Brenton sighed and raised his fists half clenched so he could still grapple if necessary. There was no sense in drawing a weapon if you already had a massive advantage over the opponent. Rapidly he shot a left jab toward David and then continued by flipping over him and dropping into a rear leg sweep. Hopefully the punch would connect but if not then there was the potential hit of the leg sweep.

David did not even see the punch coming until it had already made contact. He felt pain instantly, but was somehow able to jump over the leg sweep. He was unable to beat his instinct to grab his jaw and groan. "That hurt!" David said to both Zeus and Heralda.
Zeus watched intensely. He felt David's pain, but could not help but chuckle and say "Then don't let Brenton hit you" he then resumed watching the battle, giving Heralda a great view of the battle field.
Heralda then said, stretching her mind out to Brenton as well "David, learn your opponent. Take what you know about Brenton, and use it against him. He knows this, remember what I told you. Outsmart him. But to outsmart him, you must KNOW him" She remembered Kronos using this in every duel he was in. This helped him bring one of the forsworn down before Morzan defeated him. Unfortunately, with Morzan, the Foresworn had been to quick for him..and just a stronger spellcaster.
David grunted and stepped back, knowing that would at least give him enough time to read Brenton. The Rider readied himself, allowing Brenton to take another attempt at him.

As soon as the half-elves punch landed Zachariah was instantly intrigued. Asking himself questions like who would likely win the both looked evenly matched. So the fight could go either way the fight could even be ended by a sudden blow toppling either. Zachariah sat on a nearby box and watched the two men.
Zachariah checked each of the power when he felt a strong presence reach toward the half-elf. Zachariah reached out to the presence being careful not to provoke whatever it was and asked "Who is this."

Brenton chuckled and dropped his guard for a second, giving David a glimpse of false hope, as he stepped forward. A half step left and Brenton's fists were raised once more. He shot forward and up in a blur, flipping into a kick to the jaw. As he finished that, Brenton landed on the balls of his feet and threw two left jabs followed up by a right hook. Lastly he shot his left hand out to grab the sword from David's hand.
From all of their training, the former king hoped David could follow his moves easier. If not then all he would see was a blur and stars. Even then, the knight knew that some of his attacks would miss but that was the point. Brenton connected with Heraldas mind to convey his joy and hopefulness for David's growth.

David let his mind go blank, so it could focus on 1 thing. Brenton. He brought up his first memories of him, reading them for any hint to his personality. As he did this, The first strike from Brenton was thrown, a kick to his jaw. This David foresaw and was able to block, but the next gabs were too quick for him to block, and David felt pain as each one of them landed. He then saw the changes in Brenton's body as he shot his hand out for Kveykva. The Rider was able to move his hand enough for Brenton to miss his sword. David threw a hasty round house kick to Brenton's side before stepping back, cursing the Half elf's speed.
Zeus huffed as each blow fell on David, and rumbled in his mind "Search for his weakness David." He was of course referring to the memories David was currently ciphering through, and offered some of his own memories. He himself did not know what Brenton's weakness would be, but he was not going to help David too much, because he had to grow on his own.
Heralda murmured to Brenton alone "Tell me what David was like before I was found." He knew the son of Brom would be able to do this while still committing to the fight, and was truly curious how much the young Rider had grown in the months since Zeus had hatched for him. This was when she felt another mind brush against hers. Zeus acted on his own and turned his head towards the guilty man, and growled. Normal every day people were NOT supposed to know about the Eldunari, so Heralda did not respond, and let Zeus act like it was his mind the man had touched.
David did not let himself get distracted by Zeus's growl, and instead grunted at Brenton "When I am as quick as an elf, I will be able to beat you" He continued to look through his memories in hope of reading into the true Brenton.

Zachariah felt the new presence like tidal wave then he heard the growl instantly he thought dragon. So Zachariah reached towards the dragon and said "excuse me if I trespassed against you. But I must say I was looking for a different presence." With that Zachariah retreated from the dragons mind.
As soon as Zachariah retreated out of the dragons mind he continued watching the two men fight so far it seemed that the half elf was winning but Zachariah also noticed that the other man kept trying to feint away to try and read his oppent but the half elf kept closing the distance with ease of was still anyone's game at this point even though the half elf had landed more hits.

Brenton was midway through stepping back when he realized the kick was too fast. David may have been hasty but it was quicker than a normal human would've achieved. So even though he was half elf, blessed with the speed of an elf, Brenton took the kick to his side and skidded sideways a couple inches. Then both Heralda and David spoke to him at simultaneous times. With a shake of his head to clear the pain, Brenton spoke to David first. Beating someone does not require being as fast or as strong as them. Even when you are as fast as an elf it will do you no good if you don't first learn to beat an opponent when they have the advantage. True riders worthy of legends are able to use everything to their advantage and they are wily.
Next he devoted a small bit of his concentration to speaking to Heralda. He is and always has been a fast learner but that is far beyond important right now. When I met him I was as low as a peasant due to my pride and so I was in the act of theft. David came along and paid for the fruit before sitting and talking to me. When he found out who I was he didn't feel intimidated in the least. Instead he relished in the fact that he was helping me. So I soon discovered in our travels that he is brave, loyal, strong, caring, a fast learner, ambitious, and yet sometimes he overthinks things. Like now, I have left myself open several times and made elementary mistakes to try and test him but he's still focusing on finding my weaknesses.
Brenton jumped forward and caught the edge of the rooftop, pulling himself up. From above he could see all of the surroundings around the fight. Instantly the half elf ran across the roof and jumped into the tree right next to David. He dropped down and swung a short jab at David's nose and then a cross at his stomach. The plan was for the short range to give him the advantage. As the two punches were gone, Brenton jumped into the tree again and began running from tree branch to roof and back again.

'Gotcha ' David thought as he realized the sort of man Brenton was. He knew he was going to win. It was part of his ego.. his pride. He would show off, like with this roof tree jumping scenario. Brenton would be on the offensive, and doing stupid moves that would show skill, but mostly showing off. Especially since they had a growing audience. It was rare that one got to saw a rider and exe rider spar. David saw what was coming and blocked the nose jab, but yet again was too slow for the jab at his stomach. When Brenton jumped back, The Rider did not give the half elf a reprieve, and did exactly what Brenton would not expect, he went on the offensive. He calculated at what point in what time Brenton would be on the roof, and David threw kveykva. He didn't bother watching to see if it made contact, and was quickly climbing the tree, ready to face off Brenton.
Heralda emitted s small amount of joy and said "It must run in the family. Kronos was a lot alike when I had hatched for him. It was one of the reasons we rose quickly in the ranks. I am gladdened to be helping David and Zeus on their journey. This is the best outcome I could possible imagine since Galbatorix took me hostage... My final gift to Kronos." While that lost thought got her down a little, she was still joyful. David was her connection to her old rider..and Zeus was her connection the her dead mate.
Zeus responded to the man "There is no other presence. I would advise you to not search for it. There would be...consquences" He added a little growl. Heralda said softly to Zeus "Do not scare the human. They can not help to be courious and try to delve into matters that do not concern them." The black Dragon seased growling, and turned his attention back to the fight.
(sorry for being cold there..nothing against you man. Common folk are nto supossed to know about the eldunari.. Zeus is acted to protect that knowledge..and his mother of course.)

"If I may be as bold dragon to ask for your name mine is Zachariah Crow son of Alder" After which Zachariah continued to watch the fight as if nothing had happened. Zachariah reached out to the onlooker some of which didn't look like the kindest of people in fact some looked like mercenaries eyeing the two fighting men with some interest some even reaching toward the hilt of swords concealed daggers and the occasional ax. Zachariah reached for the hilt of two throwing knives ready for whatever was to come next.

((I can work with this.))
Brenton caught the sword but not in his hands. The blade went through the fleshy part of his leg and ripped through several muscles. As he was gritting back a curse and reaching down to heal his wound, the knight saw mercenaries drawing weapons all around them. It was instinct alone that Brenton ran toward the edge of the roof and vaulted down. Undbitr slid from its sheathe and Brenton blocked out the pain as he let a growl ripple from his throat. He would not go down without a fight even if it meant death in the long run.
Come on, I dare you. Step forward and fight the great Brenton Bromsson, rider of not one but two dragons. I will stand and protect my pupil even i... Blood blossomed from his chest and began bubbling from his lips as a knife hit his lung and another hit his throat. The fallen king fell to his knees but not before casting a spell to protect David as long as possible.
Leon was just beginning to turn away when he saw the knives flash from the hands of a mercenary to the left of the fight. The half elf drew three throwing knives and sent them all into the heart of the man. A thud was all that remained as Lionheart shot forward and drew his sword. He would avenge the brave man who fell to protect his pupil.

Zeus looked at the man and said proudly "Zeus, Rider of David Lightningsword. That is my rider" He gestured with his head towards David as he climbed the tree
David let a smile stretch his lips as he saw how his sword cut through Brenton's leg. If David had wanted, he could have ended that duel once and for all.. next the mercs came. David watched as the half elf used his speed to get in a ready stance and vowed to protect David.. then take two knifes to the chest and neck. "No!" David roared, jumping down and picking up his fallen weapon, standing in front of Brenton, ready to take on the first merc that made a move.
Zeus was up in an instant and roared loudly leaping over to David's side. "Go!" David yelled at him. Zeus had no armor, and these mercs were deadly. Zeus growled a no and stood protectively by David's side. Heralda said urgently "David, remove the knives and heal him, he does not have much time. Zeus, distract the mercenaries." She then linked minds with David, and gave him a constant flow of energy.
Zeus then told Zacharias "Bring that other elf and help me protect David as he heals Brenton." He added a little threat in that plea, just hinting that if he didn't, he would become Zeus food very very fast.
David did not move at first, until i knife came out of no where towards him, then was redirected, hitting a merc killing him. David then knelled and placed the hand with his gedway ignesia and muttered "Waíse heill!" He began, then started muttering in the ancient language a old spell he learned to heal complicated wounds, like the ones brenton had.. he only hopped Brenton's spell would hold long enough to heal Brenton.
(Its great Zack, good job! It really adds to Brenton and David's bonding.)

Zachariah saw archers before they let loose a arrow. Zachariah had Tempest in his hand ready to sing it's deathly song. Zachariah put a arrow in one of there throats as he started to aim at David. Zachariah yelled to the other elf " we have to protect him as long as we can till the spell is over."
As Zachariah let loose another arrow into a warrior with a ax a arrow whistled toward his chest and stopped dead in it's tracks and fell. Zachariah looked at the man and said " Deyja" And the man fell dead and rolled off of the roof. Zachariah looked back to see how David's spell was going he hoped it would work.

Leon was standing in front of David and Brenton with a sword in his left hand and two throwing knives in his right. He really didn't want to pull out his bow but at this rate he may not have a choice. And I was just beginning to think nothing could go wrong with this fight. I'll handle the ones with swords and axes if you take out the long range weapons. Leon knew he could probably take most of them out on his own but this was not a necessary time to fight alone. He would take half while the other half elf went for the rest.
As he was thinking all of this, two swordsmen came forward and attacked at the same time. Leon simply stepped back and slashed with his sword. Both of them were dead in seconds from wounds that not even his complicated spells could heal. Both throwing knives left his hand and sailed into the hearts of two more mercs who were readying their weapons too slowly. This was almost unfair, facing two half elves and a rider with his dragon. Plus even with wounds as grievous as his, the fourth man was holding a strong spell intact.
Just as the darkness vanished and Brenton felt his wounds heal completely, the grip he had on his spell ended. He hadn't ran out of energy but was actually not focused enough to control the magic anymore. If that wasn't enough, a merc archer had just released an arrow at David from above. It was sailing true and nothing would stop it this time. A bellow ripped from the knight's throat as he threw himself in front of the aarrow and caught it. With death blazing in his eyes, Brenton released a simple spell.
Jierda! Slytha! The merc archer fell with every bone in his body disintegrated and the rest fell into a deep slumber. Still it cost the knight a large amount of energy and he dropped his knees. He coughed for a few seconds before standing and greeting the two half elves who had defended David. Good to see fellow half elves who would throw themselves into a fight to defend the fallen. Thank you for aiding David while he healed me. My name is Brenton Bromsson, former king of the elves and current knight of said race. I am also the rider of Vaentr and Grazael, both of who fell in battle against strong opponents. This is David, rider of Zeus, and a very promising young rider.
Brenton turned to David and his eyes shone with pride as he beamed. He couldn't form the right words but hopefully the youthful rider would understand how grateful he was and how proud he was to call the young man a friend and ally as well as finiarel. Thank you David-finiarel

As David worked his spell, Zeus did everything in his power to protect his Rider, first getting the aid of the two half elves. He then killed whoever dared get close enough. Most of these mercs were not stupid.. Zeus gathered they hadn't even known David was a rider.. or that Zeus was protective of Brenton almost as much as David, or they would not have attacked. Another roar left his maw ans he leaped over the unnamed half elf, and came down on one of the mercs in a furry only a pissed off Dragon could have. He chomped down on the mans head, and with a sharp jerk with his neck, killed him. He then felt some arrows pierce his wings and growled in pain, turning to see where they came from.. but by this time, Brenton had cast his spell, killing the archer. Zeus turned and touched Brenton's mind with his, saying "I am glad you are not dead" It was all he said, and was all he really needed to say, Dragons were not human, dwarf or elf, they did not see the point of lavish words and extended greetings. They got to the point and was done. While they could do such things, they usually only saved that for conversations with their Rider.
David pronounced the last words and stopped the spell when it was done. The lack of energy in him finally took its tole and he swayed, his vision almost blacking out, until a wave of energy surged into him from Heralda. "Thank you" David murmured with his mind to her, to which she replied with "That was a complex piece of magic.. I am proud of you David." David shrugged it off both mentally and physically and murmured "I could not have done it without your aid." He then sensed the lost dragon hum in her mind with satisfaction. She did not say anything else on the subject.
David then turned to the two half elves and gave them a small smile saying with a bow of his head "David Lightningsword, at your service.. and as Brenton mentioned, this is my dragon, Zeus..named after my father. Zeus Kronosson." He wondered if either of the elves had been old enough to know Kronos.. or if they had known Zeus. (they would have to be over 50 years old to know Kronos.)
Zeus added, stretching his mind out so they all could hear "They did it mostly because i threatened to eat them if they didn't"
David then turned his attention back to his mentor and friend. He noticed the look he was getting and smiled slightly saying "Thank you for almost giving your life to defend me, Brenton-elda." He placed his right hand on Brenton's shoulder to show his gratitude.

Zachariah nodded toward the men he had helped and said "My name is Zachariah crow son of Alder. it's nice to meet you three." After which Zachariah looked at Zeus the dragon had just killed a man with ease. He was happy they weren't enemies and he hoped they never would not be. Then he replied to Zeus "I would have anyways even if you wouldn't have threatened."
"Just wondering are we going to kill these guys before they wake up or what." Zachariah said drawing Shadow fang from it's sheath. Waiting for a response.

Leon nodded toward all in the group around him. A rider, a dragon, a former king turned knight, and a half elf who was strong all on his own. They were a formidable group of allies to be trifled with by such ignorant mercenaries. As Zachariah asked about killing the sleeps mercs, Leon shook his head. He walked forward and started muttering a complex spell meant to make them forget they ever were hired to kill the group. It was a temporary fix if the men ran into their employers but it would save their lives today. They will remember nothing of us or their mission. We are good for the time being. Oh and I am Lionheart but my name is actually Leon. It is great to meet you, Brenton-elda. Because of you I came forward and accepted my lineage.
Brenton smiled as the half elf, Zachariah, asked about killing the soldiers. It reminded him of darker days when he wouldn't think twice about slaying them. Now though, he was just happy to see Leon walk forward and wipe their memories. It was the higher road to take and only a man of strong will could walk that path. As he heard David, Brenton nodded once and motioned toward the tree. We never finished our fight.

David was indeed curious what they would do with the sleeping mercs. While part of him wanted to kill them for what they almost did to Brenton, the other part realized they were just pawns of someone else.. someone who his fight really was with. That was when Leon walked forward and cleared their memories. David groaned quietly and when the half elf was done, David said "Begging your pardon oh lionheart, but I do not believe that was the best option.. we should have let one of them keep their memories.. That way we could have learned who they were hired by..who is responsible for this attempt on our lives." he could sense agreement from both Zeus and Heralda.
"I will take whomever is responsible for this and feast on their blood" Zeus growled, wanting nothing more than to get revenge for the attempt on his Rider's life.
Heralda could not help but notice the similarity between her and Zeus's attitude towards things like attempts on their rider's lives. She was almost certain now that Zeus was indeed the egg she bore and gave to the riders oh so long ago. She closed this off from the others minds, not wanting to get Zeus's hopes up.
David then turned to Brenton and simply shrugged "I doubt you are up to continuing.. if I remember correctly, I had the upper hand.." he said, almost smirking...almost.
