I miss this place terribly.
If you don't remember me, then search for my posts I was once a VERY active member, just lost interest.
If you do remember me, then I've missed you and I'm sorry if I left you hanging.
Life has been busy, and finding time to post on here hasn't been a priority, mainly because I felt there was such a significant lack of activity but, I think I have a potential solution.
First off, let me say that a lot of what this forum does is spot on. The concept of limiting how many riders, elves, half elves, etc.... GOOD IDEA. Keeps things from getting out of hand. Keeps the "world" in balance and promotes the idea of being a normal character.
Here's my suggestion(s)
The new book will be coming out shortly, this will prompt a HUGE surge in activity on sites just like this one. Newcomers will flock to the internet in search of a creative outlet for their ideas about Eragon, why not here?
Well in my opinion a few things need to happen before that surge happens.
1st, I suggest a MAJOR revamp of the current story.
Get away from living in the story that Paolini created. Get a group of the top posters together, brainstorm with them. Let the story center around a time frame when Dragon Riders were far more common. This way there is no Eragon, there is no Galbatorix, etc... and therefore no quarrel over who gets to be these key people.
As you already have, set some base rules regarding the total number of dragon riders, elves, etc.... that way you solve a lot of arguments about that ahead of time.
2nd, and far more important than the above suggestion
Maintain an ever moving story. Again, grab some of your better members (top posters) and have them nominate each other to play pivotal roles. These would be additional characters above and beyond the characters normally played by these posters, and their owners would remain anonymous to the "public." These characters would be utilized to spur the spur the story along when things got dry. These characters would be not allowed to make actions without the explicit consent of the "story-tellers."
It is the story that would keep people coming back. It is the excitement of being involved in something larger than oneself that would drive you to make time to get online and post.
3rd.
Not sure how to make this one happen without pissing people off, but if you want to make an omelet you gotta crack some eggs right?
Kill people.
Seriously no war takes place without some of the warriors biting the big one. Have people draw proverbial straws, kill off inactive members, let the storytelling team decide who goes, but damnit kill some people, again this keeps the story interesting.
Again these are just suggestions, and while I am convinced that I know everything, everyday someone demonstrates just how wrong I am about that.
